School Based Traineeships
School based traineeships are employment-based pathways towards a qualification for secondary school students, allowing the trainee the opportunity to gain a genuine employment experience.
Students who are progressing toward a Queensland Certificate of Education will be accredited QCE points for undertaking a school based traineeship with no student fees.
Students will also earn as they gain experience and learn theory components. Employers are also entitled to access federal funding for taking on a school based trainee.
To be eligible to enrol in the User Choice School Based program, you must:
- Enrolled at, and attending, a registered Queensland government school or an accredited non-government school; or
- Registered with the Home Education Unit of the Department of Education as a home-schooled student;
- Be enrolled in either Years 10, 11 or 12 and progressing towards the attainment of a Queensland Certificate of Education or equivalent and/or a vocational qualification.
- Be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency.
- Undertake a training contract with an employer who provides the minimum 375 hours of paid work over each 12 month period of the training contract
- The school Principal, or authorised representative must endorse and give approval for the school based traineeship
- The school based traineeship must impact on their school timetable, meaning some of the training and/or work must take place during school hours
- Are not already currently undertaking the other qualifications under User Choice funding.
What qualification/s do Racing Queensland offer as a School-Based Traineeship (User Choice Funded)
- Certificate II in Racing Industry
- Certificate III in Racing (Stablehand)
- Certificate III in Racing (Trackwork Rider)
- Certificate IV in Racing (Jockey)
Student Contribution Fees
A student who is a school-based apprentice is exempt from paying a co-contribution Fee.
