SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
Cairns 10/04/2025 – Race 5: BABINDA ELECTRICS OPEN HANDICAP – 1400 Metres
 
Co-Trainer T. Rowe subsequently advised stewards GULF OF LION had pulled up lame in the off fore fetlock and the gelding has now been retired from racing. Mr Rowe was advised that should circumstances change a full veterinary examination with x-ray results of the fetlocks would be required prior the gelding racing or trialing again.  
 
GENERAL

Race 7, L. Morrison + 1kg
 
Race 1: CORAL COAST CATERING MAIDEN PLATE – 950 Metres

URIS – As the gelding had not started for an extended period and was late arriving on course due to traffic delays, URIS underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Tightened for room on jumping.
 
BEAUTIFUL LIES – Was late arriving on course due to traffic delays. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Rider L. Morrison pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 131(b) in that she failed to ride her mount out to the end of the race, approaching the winning post. Stewards were of the opinion her actions had cost her mount 4th place. Ms Morrison’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight tonight 19/04/2025 and expire midnight Saturday 26/04/2025. Ms Morrison was advised of her appeal rights. 
 
SUPERSTITIONS – Shifted out at the start tightening runners to it’s outside.
 
KING CANUTE – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground.         
 
HITCHEDINMANHATTAN – Bounded in the air on jumping and was tightened for room shortly after.
 
Race 2: RICHARD NEWTON MEMORIAL QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP – 950 Metres

Trainer R. Chillemi was asked to explain the scratching of TSUNAMI on race morning today. Mr Chillemi advised he had considered TSUNAMI competing today however was of the opinion it would be suited to a longer break between runs and the intention is for the horse to be nominated at the upcoming Townsville meeting. His explanation was noted.   
 
SKOGAFOSS – Began awkwardly and shifted in soon after the start bumping with GREY POWER. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
GREY POWER – Bumped shortly after the start. Restrained near the 600 metres when racing in restricted room to the inside of BETTER SHOW.
 
WEBS – Crowded for room shortly after the start.
 
 BETTER SHOW – A post-race veterinary examination on the gelding revealed no abnormalities.
 
Race 3: MAGIC MILLIONS/ROB KOCH MEMORIAL/FNQ UP & COMING STAYERS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1500 Metres

RIVALON – Began awkwardly.
 
BRADSHAW – Raced keenly in the early stages and shifted wider near the 900 metres and raced wide from that point onwards. Bumped near the 400 metres.  When asked to explain the performance today apprentice L. Guernier was of the opinion the mare may not have run out the 1500 metres. Trainer F. Wieland was in agreeance with Ms Guernier’s comment. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare which raced below market expectations revealed no abnormalities.
 
LAST LINE DANCE – Shifted out near the 400 metres when tiring brushing BRAND NEW which shifted wider. Apprentice B. Youngberry was advised to make a greater effort to keep her mounts straight in similar circumstances.
 
BRAND NEW (NZ) – Brushed near the 400 metres and shifted wider bumping BRADSHAW.
 
CALL ME HILTON – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
DOMINANT ROSE – Stewards noted rider N. Thomas exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+ one), under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use no further action was taken.
 
Race 4: CENTURY CRANES OPEN HANDICAP – 1500 Metres

HARROW (IRE) – Slow to begin.
 
STRATHCONA – Bounded in the air on jumping. Hampered near the 900 metres and shifted wider racing wide from that point onwards. Shifted in slightly near the 500 metres bumping DEVIL KICK. Shied when returning to scale dislodging rider J. Murphy who declared himself free of any injury and declined medical attention. 
 
LOVE ON SUNDAY – Lost ground near the 900 metres when racing to the inside of BORLOTTI BEANS when that gelding shifted in marginally when racing keenly. Inconvenienced near the 500 metres and was restrained and commenced to lose ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

DEVIL KICK – Bumped near the 500 metres and was unbalanced and shifted in placing LOVE ON SUNDAY in restricted room. 
 
BORLOTTI BEANS – Apprentice jockey T. Leslight advised stewards on returning to scale that it was not his intention to establish a substantial lead however the gelding raced strongly and he was a unable to restrain it.

Race 5: GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO. BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP – 950 Metres

LITTLE LOVER – Slow to begin and bumped.
 
BELLA BIANCA – Shifted out on jumping despite the efforts of apprentice B. Youngberry bumping with LITTLE LOVER.
 
ASAMBE – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages having to be checked away from heels near the 500 metres.
 
BRING ME TO LIFE (NZ) – Momentarily hampered leaving the 200 metres.
 
THREEBROTHERS – Shifted out under pressure leaving the 200 metres momentarily hampering BRING ME TO LIFE. Jockey N. Thomas was advised to show greater care when shifting ground.  
 
MAKANUI – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
THEGIRLSGOTTHIS – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
BOOVEY – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
TARIFF – Stewards noted rider A. Holt exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+ one), under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use no further action was taken.
 
Race 6: RED BERET HOTEL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP –      950 Metres

AMMAND – As the gelding had not started for an extended period it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
LUCKY LENI – Slow to begin.
 
BLOOMIN' RIPPER – Shifted out at the start bumping RECRUITER. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
RECRUITER – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
LASER BEAM – Over-raced in the middle stages. The whip of jockey A. Thomson broke leaving the 200 metres. 
 
KITEMA – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
NO LOVE LOST – Jockey A. Holt advised stewards on returning to scale that in his opinion the gelding was never comfortable on today’s track conditions.  
 
Race 7: LADBROKES FORM GENIUS QTIS RATINGS BAND 0 - 50 HANDICAP – 1250 Metres

INJADA – Stewards spoke with trainer B. Bailey in relation to riding instructions today. Mr Bailey advised the instructions were to ride the gelding just off the pace. Was ridden accordingly.
 
WONG WAY – Delayed the start significantly after dislodging apprentice B. Youngberry on entering the course proper proving difficult to catch and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 5.08pm on veterinary advice. All monies wagered on WONG WAY were ordered to be refunded and the following deductions to be applicable.

Apprentice B. Youngberry declared herself free of injury and declined medical attention. 
 
LOOK AT ROSA – Slow into stride and shifted in bumping WISHNOWSKY .
 
WISHNOWSKY – Over-raced in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer L. Terzi was notified that in accordance with AR79(4), WISHNOWSKY shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse, recognized training track, private training establishment, or other place for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after: (i) a gallop of at least 1000 metres; or (ii) an official trial or jump-out; in the presence, and to the satisfaction of a Steward.
 
BEAR'S BEST – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages when racing wide. Lost its off-fore plate in running.
 
GROVERS PREDICTION – Began awkwardly. Blundered near the 400 metres when in clear running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. Trainer K. Allender was advised a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the mare racing or trialing again.
