WEATHER - FINE TRACK - FAST RAIL - 2.5M. ALL TRACK
FROM ESK MEETING, 23.6.00 - RACE 6.
Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the reason for BOLD TYCOON being checked near the 600m. in race 6. The inquiry had been adjourned to enable S. Katsidis to give evidence. After hearing evidence and viewing the film, J. Hoopert, rider of MUSICAL TOTE, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in, resulting in IONISED and BLUE JET being tightened and forced in on to BOLD TYCOON, which had to be checked.
RACE 1: COLE DIESEL H'CAP - 1615M.
KORN JUIO jumped awkwardly and shifted in, contacting the hind quarters of ARCH'S CHARGER.
After being a shade slow to begin, CARLTON LAD was tightened for room between MAJESTIC HEIGHTS and ROCKLEA KING when both horses shifted ground.
After leaving the 500m., THE WOODIES attempted to improve its position inside MASQUERADE and made contact with that horse, however after making contact, was forced back in to its original position. FREE MOVER had to be steadied off the heels of MASQUERADE in this incident.
THE WOODIES was held up for clear running in the straight until near the 200m..
A swab sample was taken from ROCKLEA KING.
RACE 2: DAYBREAK LOVER H'CAP - 1350M.
SLIGO PRINCESS, which blundered on jumping, shifted in and made contact with RUN MAGIC GIRL.
After jumping awkwardly, MALLEE FIRE was hampered after the start by CHARSKI, which shifted out.
For some distance after leaving the 1100m., TRULY FRENCH got its head up and was inclined to overrace.
Near the 400m., MALLEE FIRE shifted out to improve and hampered LOS KATROS. S. Katsidis, rider of MALLEE FIRE, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
TILLY'S PLACE was held up for clear running until near the 200m. and when attempting to improve, shifted out and made contact with MALLEE FIRE.
RACE 3: DANCING POET H'CAP - 1350M
MANDINKA shifted out and bumped CELESTIAL DUST at the start.
MA FOI was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.
BIG GAME was held up for clear running until approaching the 100m..
J. Byrne reported that FRAMAR was inclined to hang out from the 500m., and when nearing the finishing line, the horse had to be checked when hanging in close to the heels of MA FOI, which was inclined to shift out under pressure.
RACE 4: CHIEF DE BEERS H'CAP - 1200M.
SHOMATAR was slow to begin.
Leaving the 500m., EYE IN THE SKY, when being steadied off the heels of JAVA, hung out and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of CHAMBA, causing that horse to become unbalanced. EYE IN THE SKY continued to hang out over the concluding stages. Stewards intend to interview trainer G. Clunes in relation to the racing manners of EYE IN THE SKY. A veterinary examination of EYE IN THE SKY failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 5: ZEPHYR ZIP H'CAP - 1200M.
Trainer A. Bailey was fined $50 for nominating FORREST FLASH for this event (Class 3) when ineligible.
NERVES OF STEEL and DEE JAY were both slow to jump.
After leaving the 1000m., GEE ESS TEE commenced to pull hard and had to be steadied off the heels of CIRCLE OF WHITE.
After leaving the 300m., CASTLEREAGH MAGIC shifted out in an endeavour to improve and made contact with PADARICO.
Near the 200m., ROBBER JOHN was tightened for room when BUTTRESS (L. Cassidy) shifted in. L. Cassidy was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Approaching the 50m., K. Pope was obliged to momentarily stop riding CASTLEREAGH MAGIC when tightened for room between SUDDEN TREASURE and BUTTRESS (L. Cassidy). At an inquiry, it was established that whilst SUDDEN TREASURE had shifted ground outwards margially, L. Cassidy was nevertheless advised to take greater measures to keep his mounts on a straight course as BUTTRESS had contributed to the incident by shifting in.
ROBBER JOHN was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon, Dr Manahan, who indicated that the horse was sore in the off foreleg.
RACE 6: BAKERS DELIGHT H'CAP - 1110M.
Trainer R. Dawson was fined $50 for failing to notify a gear change in that SAHARA REGENT was wearing blinkers.
As N. Jolly was indisposed, he was replaced on SIPPY DOWNS by T. Pattillo.
J. Byrne was examined by the club's doctor after riding in race 5 and advised to forego his remaining engagements. S. Seamer was substituted as the rider of NEW RAIN, S. Shield as the rider of DISTINCTLY, S. Katsidis as the rider of TRAVELLIN' MAN (Race 8), and S. Galloway as the rider of DAWN GRACE in race 9.
For some distance after leaving the 800m., ETOILE CENTIEME pulled hard when being restrained off the heels of SAHARA REGENT.
Rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight, SAHARA REGENT was held up behind NEW RAIN, which had a tendency to race ungenerously when under pressure.
RACE 7: OFFICE OF STATE REVENUE SOCIAL CLUB H'CAP - 1110M.
MOSES was a late scratching at 9.33 a.m. for veterinary reasons.
TOPAZIOS, which struck the fence prior to being loaded, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
A warning was issued to the connections of WINNING BLIND, which jumped awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
Near the 400m., PRIVATE BRIFING attempted to improve away from the rails and was disappointed for a run when it made contact with TOPAZIOS, which maintained its ground.
For some distance after this incident in the straight and until leaving the 200m., PRIVATE BRIEFING was unable to obtain clear running.
FARE EVADER, which haemorrhaged from both nostrils, was declared ineligible to race for a period of 3 months.
RACE 8: TREASURY CASINO DOOMBEN H'CAP - 1200M.
NO INTENTION was a late scratching at approximately 3.57 p.m. when the horse could not be loaded. Following the late withdrawal of NO INTENTION, all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded, and deductions were made in accordance with the Racing and Betting Act - i.e. 17 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 15 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer P. Duff was advised that NO INTENTION must pass a barrier test before being permitted to race again.
CHEEKY SPY missed the start.
RACE 9: ST. JUDE H'CAP - 1200M.
MILLENNIUM BELLE jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
UNDICE was slowly away.
Approaching the 600m., TORNATO LASS which was hanging in despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in RUAKIWI GLOW being checked.
A. Gillett, rider of CELENTO, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount shifting in and tightening ANTS and ST. ESTE, resulting in ANTS having to be checked near the 500m.. A. Gillett was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 23 July, and to expire at midnight, 4 August 2000.
ALL WINNERS AND ROCKLEA KING WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
