Apprentice A. Morrison was reprimanded for failing to seek the permission of stewards prior to leaving the course.
RACE 1: YALUMBA WINES H'CAP - 1200M.
Shortly after the start, HUGE REGAL shifted in and inconvenienced OUTGATE.
HOROWITZ jumped awkwardly.
Prior to the 400m., BALETE DRIVE had to be restrained off the heels of PLAY MISTRESS.
Near the 200m., TURNPIKE hung in, making contact with MOTH BALL, which in turn shifted in and brushed WHATTAROA. TURNPIKE continued to hang in under pressure for the remainder of the straight. Whilst acknowledging TURNPIKE'S racing manners, stewards nonetheless advised apprentice A. Morrison, rider of TURNPIKE, that in similar circumstances he would be expected to straighten his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion.
Near the 600m., BALETE DRIVE, which was racing ungenerously, shifted in and brushed the running rail.
When questioned, S. Katsidis stated that FOR PETE'S SAKE raced greenly throughout the event and continued to change stride and resented racing in between other runners.
RACE 2: BUNDABERG RUM H'CAP - 1110M.
APPALACHE pulled hard in the early stages.
A. Morrison, rider of SUBTLE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that after reaching the lead on the first turn, he did reduce the speed of the race in such a manner that resulted in QUALITY KINGDOM, which was following, having to be checked off the heels of SUBTLE and shift out and having to be steadied off the heels of PARAM. In this incident when QUALITY KINGDOM shifted back in, LUCKY RAID had to be checked off that gelding's heels and blundered. A. Morrison was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, Wednesday, 2 August, and to expire at midnight 12 August 2000.
RACE 3: HAHN PREMIUM H'CAP - 1200M.
STAR TIPPER jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, hampering ASSUMPTA. M. Cahill, rider of STAR TIPPER, reported that after this incident he lost the use of his off-side iron for a short distance.
GREEN SPIRIT was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight, and inside the 200m., shifted out to improve, hampering ASSUMPTA, which had improved quickly to its outside. Stewards reprimanded N. Tomizawa in relation to this incident. ASSUMPTA then had difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 50m..
AUSSIE MORNING had difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 50m..
RACE 4: PIER NINE OYSTER BAR & SEAFOOD GRILL H'CAP - 1200M.
Trainer C. Martin was fined $25 for presenting AGES AGO to the enclosure without blinkers.
RED ZEPHYR and LONGMEADOWS were slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, AGES AGO and FLASH TUNE made contact.
Approaching the 800m., WESTERN BAND, which was pulling hard, had to be checked off the heels of I'M A BUNKERS, which shifted out after being restrained off the heels of FOOLING.
Nearing the home turn, SPORTS DIARY shifted out to improve, forcing PICNIC BY THE BAY wider on the track.
RACE 5: WANLESS WASTECORP H'CAP - 1630M.
KAREN'S WAY and STRIKE FOREVER were slow to begin.
L. Cassidy, rider of GONDOLA, accidentally knocked the whip out of S. Seamer's hand (TOBOLSK) near the 100m..
After leaving the 200m., KAREN'S WAY had to be steadied off the heels of the tiring PLATA ORA.
RACE 6: CHA CHA CHAR GRILL H'CAP - 2200M.
VIRGO'S DREAM, which made contact with the starting gate when being loaded, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
BOLD DAN was slow to begin.
After leaving the 1600m., MIGHTY HOPE had to be checked off the heels of MY FRIENDS, and in doing so shifted out, forcing BRITANNICUS wider on the track.
RACE 7: EAGLE STREET PIER SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1350M.
PASHA'S GIRL jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, hampering PRINCE STARLIGHT and MACHTIG MIHI PANIS.
After leaving the 1000m., HIRCHBERG, which was pulling hard, had to be checked off the heels of MACHTIG MIHI PANIS.
Near the 500m., MACHTIG MIHI PANIS improved to the inside of the heels of BANYAN BAY and had to be checked.
In the early stages of the straight, LUNGU had difficulty obtaining clear running.
After leaving the 200m., WEST EXPRESS had to be steadied to avoid the heels of the tiring PASHA'S GIRL. At the same stage, LUNGU shifted out to improve and had to be steadied off the heels of SWIRLER.
RACE 8: IL CENTRO RESTAURANT H'CAP - 1350M.
As A. Pattillo was to be overweight, J Walk was substituted as the rider of WHAT A MESS. A. Pattillo was fined the sum of $100.
SHALARKO pulled hard in the early and middle stages.
After leaving the 1200m., EMERALD ZOFF was cramped for room between VATULELE and SHALARKO, which shifted in and away from IN THE FAST LANE. HABITATIS, which was following, had to be checked and MR CENTREFOLD was hampered.
Approaching the 900m., EMERALD ZOFF, when tightened for room by MEDALS, was reluctant to hold its position and lost ground.
Apprentice A. Morrison was fined 100 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilo over his declared riding weight.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
