SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From SCTC meeting, 5.3.06 – Race 7
Stewards reconvened an inquiry into interference suffered by SAMSUN (J. Hoopert) approaching the 50m. After taking evidence, stewards reprimanded jockey A. Pattillo, rider of ALLY BEE, under AR137(a) for failing to correct his mount when it started to shift, thereby causing SAMSUN, which was racing to his inside, to have to be steadied. In issuing a reprimand, stewards took into account there was a contributing shift to the inside from ACTIVE COMBAT.
Race 1: Uvex Maiden H’cap – 2200m
1st – Extinguisher 2nd – She’s Notable 3rd – Feather Bed 4th – Strong ‘N’ Black
DINNA LATAR was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 11.46 a.m.. Trainer B. Baldwin was instructed to provide a veterinary clearance for DINNA LATAR prior to its next race start.
SHE’S NOTABLE (M. Cahill) and FEATHER BED (A. Pattillo) were slow to begin.
DANISH BALLERINA (C. Spry) was also slow to begin, and shortly after was bumped by CORP (K. Pope), which shifted in.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, CLEVER PUSS (M. Carson) was steadied whilst overracing.
Nearing the 500m, EXTINGUISHER (M. Price) rolled in momentarily crowding FEATHER BED, which was steadied.
STRONG ‘N’ BLACK had a tendency to shift ground both inwards and outwards over the concluding stages whilst under pressure.
DANISH BALLERINA was caught 3 wide throughout.
Stewards questioned R. McMahon regarding the performance of AREION. He stated that rounding the home turn he was obliged to shift in when bumped by ZULU STAR (J. Holder), and then when attempting to obtain a run to the inside of STRONG ‘N’ BLACK, both runners came together, resulting in AREION shifting back towards the rail. Shortly after he was able to obtain a narrow run to the inside of STRONG AND BLACK and made ground, but over the final stages, when placed under pressure, began to weaken. R. McMahon further stated that whilst racing to the inside of STRONG AND BLACK, AREION was hesitant to improve despite his urging, adding that he was further inconvenienced when STRONG AND BLACK had a tendency to shift ground over the final stages.
Race 2: Duracell 3yo Maiden Div 1 H’cap – 1110m
1st – Prince Lionheart 2nd – On The Nose 3rd – Supercilious 4th – Fyodor
RAMANAUSKAS (J. Taylor) jumped awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, PRINCE LIONHEART (K. Wharton) began to lay out, taking BUILDER BOB (B. Stewart) wider, resulting in RAMANAUSKAS, which was racing ungenerously, having to be steadied from the heels of BUILDER BOB.
Approaching the 800m, SUPERCILIOUS (J. Holder) became awkward to the inside of BUILDER BOB (B. Stewart). When steadied, both SUPERCILIOUS and BUILDER BOB came together and bumped.
Nearing the 800m, JACANA BELLE (M. Price) shifted out and brushed MANILLA BOY (M. Palmer), which was then obliged to race wide throughout.
Approaching the 700m, POMMARD (R. McMahon) became awkward on the heels of PRINCE LIONHEART (K. Wharton) when the pace slowed.
Nearing the 600m, POMMARD, whilst still overracing, shifted out and bumped BUILDER BOB. Whilst POMMARD was overracing, SUPERCILIOUS (J. Holder), which was following, was momentarily hampered and shifted wider.
On straightening, SUPERCILIOUS shifted out and brushed MANILLA BOY, which was under pressure and losing ground.
Stewards questioned apprentice M. Palmer over the performance of MANILLA BOY. He stated that after being caught 3 wide throughout, with the heavy weight and also with the gelding resuming from a spell, he felt that the gelding travelled until nearing the 350m but when placed under pressure from this point, MANILLA BOY failed to run on. A post race veterinary examination of MANILLA BOY failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Apprentice R. McMahon was questioned over the performance of POMMARD. He stated that after becoming awkward near the 800m and then began to overrace for some considerable distance, placing him at a disadvantage. Then on straightening he felt that the colt travelled kindly until over the concluding stages when the pressure began to tell, resulting in him not finishing off the race as he would have expected. A post race veterinary examination of POMMARD failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 3: King Gee 3yo Maiden Div 2 H’cap – 1110m
1st – Digging Deep 2nd – Just A Classic 3rd – Duhaaba 4th – Full Of Zest
FOUND THE MONEY (K. Wharton) was momentarily slow to begin and then shortly after was taken out and bumped by PUSHED (A. Pattillo), which in turn bumped JUST A CLASSIC (N. Tomizawa), resulting in both JUST A CLASSIC and FOUND THE MONEY becoming unbalanced.
Near the 700m, WINSOME FORTUNE (C. Whiteley) became awkward between FULL OF ZEST (J. Holder) and GREAT SOUTHERNLAND (B. Stewart) when both runners shifted ground.
Stewards, after taking evidence from jockeys A. Pattillo (PUSHED), J. Holder (FULL OF ZEST), C. Whiteley (WINSOME FORTUNE) and B. Stewart (GREAT SOUTHERNLAND), into an incident rounding the home turn in which WINSOME FORTUNE became crowded between FULL OF ZEST and GREAT SOUTHERNLAND. Stewards reprimanded both J. Holder and B. Stewart for momentarily shifting ground, causing WINSOME FORTUNE to be crowded and then steadied. Both riders after being reprimanded were also reminded of their responsibilities towards fellow riders. C. Whiteley, rider of WINSOME FORTUNE, was admonished over the evidence he put before the stewards in reference to this particular incident. Jockey Whiteley was informed that should he continue this practice, the stewards would consider taking more serious action.
Approaching the 300m, WINSOME FORTUNE (C. Whiteley) was momentarily held up when attempting a run between GREAT SOUTHERNLAND (B. Stewart) and VICTORY IS SWEET (R. Goltz), and shortly after became awkward, was steadied and shifted wider. GREAT SOUTHERLAND failed to run on over the concluding stages when placed under pressure.
A post race veterinary examination of GREAT SOUTHERNLAND failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
Race 4: Tesa Maiden 3yo & Up Plate – 1350m
1st – Jungle Paws 2nd – Fulmonti 3rd – Eagle Street 4th – Fideism
BRAVE ZAC was a late scratching at 8.27 a.m. on veterinary advice. Trainer R. Bradshaw was advised that he would be required to produce a veterinary clearance for BRAVE ZAC prior to its next race start.
INNOCENT LAD (B. Pengelly) jumped inwards at the start, taking I HAD A DREAM (J. Holder) in on to VICTORY HERO (N. Tomizawa).
Nearing the 1100m, SNEAKY LONG (C. Spry), which began to overrace, became awkward between FIDEISM (S. Katsidis) and MR CLANG (M. Cahill), and when steadied got its head up and became unbalanced for some distance.
INNOCENT LAD (B. Pengelly) and ODYSSEY STAR (R. Plumb) were caught wide during the early stages.
I HAD A DREAM became awkward when racing between JUNGLE PAWS (P. Hammersley) and VICTORY HERO (N. Tomizawa) rounding the home turn.
On straightening, I HAD A DREAM was momentarily steadied from ELIZADORA (K. Wharton) and shifted out to obtain clear running.
Over the concluding stages, I HAD A DREAM began to race ungenerously, shifted out and hampered INNOCENT LAD, then shifted back in, momentarily hampering JEDEPHRAE (C. Whiteley).
Following this event the track rating was upgraded to good.
Race 5: Blackwoods Class 3 H’cap – 1615m
1st – Guerrouj 2nd – Bit Of Magic 3rd – Kakama 4th – Waltz To Glory
BIT OF MAGIC (J. Holder) jumped awkwardly, and shortly after was taken out on to MOROCCAN BOY (J. Taylor), which was then taken out on to ORDER ARMS (S. Katsidis).
BIT OF MAGIC (J. Holder) was obliged to race wide rounding the home turn.
KAKAMA (M. Cahill) was held up for clear running approaching the 300m until nearing the 150m on the heels of GUERROUJ (N. Tomizawa) and to the inside of MAZACAR (D. Griffin). Shortly after this point, M. Cahill elected to shift to the inside of GUERROUJ to obtain clear running. Shortly after, MING GOLD (R. McMahon) was obliged to be momentarily steadied from the heels of KAKAMA.
Over the final stages, ORDER ARMS (S. Katsidis), when under pressure, had a tendency to lay in and away from BIT OF MAGIC, which shifted in.
Race 6: Nitto Class 2 H’cap – 1350m
1st – Belamonte 2nd – Oriental Peace 3rd – Vive Le Roi 4th – Gold Solomon
WABESTO (M. Cahill) began to overrace during the early stages and when steadied got its head up and refused to settle.
VIVE LE ROI (J. Holder) shifted ground outwards over the concluding stages. Trainer S. Dwyer was advised that a warning was being placed on the gelding regarding its racing manners. A post race veterinary examination of VIVE LE ROI failed to reveal any abnormalities.
M. Cahill, rider of WABESTO, dropped his whip approaching the 150m.
MAIZ SON (J. Bowditch), VIVE LE ROI (J. Holder), WABESTO (M. Cahill), SARGE MCGRATH (S. Drake) and KENNEDIA (R. McMahon) were all obliged to race wide throughout.
Race 7: Bosch Class 6 H’cap – 1200m
1st – King’s Clan 2nd – Doctor Hennessy 3rd – Unbridled Fury 4th – Royal Opera
Trainer D. Ward was fined the sum of $100 for failing to declare a rider for OUR EXCESS by the prescribed time.
S. Shield was examined by the club’s doctor after riding in race 4 and stood down from his remaining engagement on ZOOBINI. M. Rice was substituted as the rider of that gelding. Jockey Shield was instructed to obtain a medical clearance prior to riding again.
Prior to the start, HELDEN PARK (R. Plumb) broke through the barriers, was quickly restrained and after returning to the barriers underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to take its place in the field.
OUR EXCESS (R. McMahon) was caught wide in the early and middle stages.
UNBRIDLED FURY (J. Holder) jumped awkwardly.
On jumping, KENDRICK LAD (J. Taylor) shifted out and bumped OUR EXCESS (R. McMahon), which was steadied.
Shortly after straightening and until shortly after leaving the 150m, ROYAL OPERA (S. Katsidis) was held up to the inside of DOCTOR HENNESSY (D. Craven) and to the outside of LEGCAPA (K. Wharton).
ZOOBINI (M. Rice) was held up between the 300m and the 100m on the heels of DOCTOR HENNESSY and KING’S CLAN (M. Cahill).
A post race veterinary examination of HELDEN PARK revealed the horse had sustained a laceration to the outside of the off fore cannon.
Race 8: 3M Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Echo Gun 2nd – Sir Coup 3rd – Defend The Hill 4th – Passagemaker
Trainer A. Williamson was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for FORSETI by the prescribed time.
Trainer L. Manzelmann was fined $200 for failing to declare riders for EAGLE STREET (Race 4), DANDY SCENE (Race 6) and THAT’S HIM (Race 8).
DODGE BEAUTY (J. Taylor) and SIR COUP (R. McMahon) were both tightened for room at the start between SUPER SAILS (A. Pattillo) and THAT’S HIM (M. Rice) when both horses shifted ground.
SUPER SAILS steadied from the heels of FORSETI (M. Palmer) approaching the 800m. Shortly after, REACTIVE DANCER (M. Carson) was also obliged to steady from the heels of PASS THE STONE (J. Bowditch).
PASSAGEMAKER (M. Cahill) raced wide during the middle stages.
Shortly after leaving the 500m, SUPER SAILS and PASSAGEMAKER came together and brushed.
THAT’S HIM (M. Rice) raced wide throughout.
