A post race veterinary examination of Hopfgarten revealed a poor recovery.
Race 1: Jim Beam CG&E Class 3 H'cap – 1200m
CANNY AND THE JET – Declared a late scratching at 10.45 am on veterinary advice.
DIVERSIFIER – Bumped on jumping away.
JOHNHRO – Began awkwardly. Apprentice L. Tarrant reported at scale he felt something was amiss with the gelding. A post race veterinary examination revealed slight soreness in the off foreleg.
LITTLE WHITE – Hung out on the bends.
Race 2: Suez Maiden Plate – 1350m
SHERRIN THE LOVE – First starter. Advertised as carrying blinkers and tongue-tie, however did not carry this gear. Hampered by another runner near the 50m.
ARTETA – Slow to begin.
COLLATERAL – Slow to begin. Restrained off heels near the 700m. Held up rounding the home turn and had to be steadied away from heels approaching the 100m.
SCARLET BEGONIAS – Apprentice L. Tarrant reported that, in his opinion, his mount did not handle the firm track conditions today.
Race 3: Racezone QTIS 3yo Benchmark 65 H'cap – 1350m
ALL GET CLANGED – Change of tactics. Connections advised the horse would be ridden in a more forward position if circumstances permit. Raced in a forward position.
ONE STANDOUT – J. Morris was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on his mount. He stated he had been instructed to lead as the filly had not finished its races off after getting back in the field. He added unfortunately the filly jumped away awkwardly and did not begin as expected and as a result he had to ride hard to carry out his instructions to lead. Trainer L. Ross confirmed the instructions, adding that in its trial the filly had got back in the field and did not finish off and when leading in jumpouts won those heats. The explanation was noted. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
WALTZ IN FLIGHT – Laid in near the 500m.
FLEUR D’ORAGE – Became unbalanced near the 500m.
LADY NO MORE – Jockey M. Hellyer was fined $200 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
Race 4: Pages Event Equipment Hire Class 4 H'cap – 1050m
YAHUSHA - Bumped on jumping away.
SPIRIT OF THE DAWN – Jumped away awkwardly.
Race 5: Sky Racing Maiden H'cap – 1200m
AMBITIOUS BLONDE – Trainer T. Gollan advised that the mare got further back in the field than he had expected.
WORK OF WORDS – Jockey T. Harrison reported at scale that her saddle shifted back shortly after the start, placing her at a disadvantage throughout the event and also hung in from the 800m. A post race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the mouth.
GAYNDAH – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
SETHELO – Restrained off heels near the 900m. Again restrained away from heels at the 800m and continued to be steadied.
SHAWL – Held up for clear running from the 400m until near the 250m.
BIDII BABE – Raced wide without cover.
Race 6: James Boags Benchmark 80 H'cap – 1350m
WATLING – Jumped away awkwardly.
TAMARIZ – Tightened for room between runners near the 600m.
SPUR LE JOUER – Held up rounding the home turn.
FASTA THAN LIGHT – Raced wide without cover.
DEFINE – Apprentice M. McGillivray reported that, in his opinion, his mount did not appreciate the firm track conditions today.
Race 7: Merry Christmas All From The BRC Class 3 H'cap – 1630m
FIRST RAIN – Slipped over in the enclosure. Examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
DUCHESS MOLLY – Tightened for room and checked by PALMERA LAD after passing the 250m. Jockey R. Wiggins, rider of PALMERA LAD, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
PALMERA LAD – Bumped near the 200m by CARMENERE (B. Pengelly). B. Pengelly advised to exercise more.
SYAMANTAKA MANI – Raced 3 wide without cover.
CANONGATE – Apprentice B. Appo was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip.
ANGEL DANCER – Apprentice J. Orman was r7eprimanded for use of whip in consecutive strides.
