Thornton was asked to exercise greater care when attempting to change positions. Rider R. Maloney advised the mare traveled well in the early stages of the event, however when placed under pressure in the home straight and being hampered, proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare was exhibiting a poor post-race recovery.

Race 2: XXXX SIDELINE BEER GARDEN 3 MAY QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 2000 M

Disapopinted for a run between CHEERY LIPS and MAD ANA passing the 200m. Obliged to shift out in the final 100m to improve. Unable to be fully tested to the line. When asked to comment on the performance, rider B. Wheeler advised that despite being held up in the home straight, in his opinion, the gelding raced flat and was disappointing.
HE'S A SAINT (NZ) – Improved onto heels before shifting out momentarily at the crossing. Rider J. Lloyd reported that his mount was inclined to lay in throughout.
HIGH CLASS ROLLER – Leaving the 100m was bumped and shifted in.
HENLEY ROOM – When asked to comment on the performance, rider R. Stewart advised his mount raced very dour. Trainer C. Anderson advised he would report back to stewards if anything should come to light regarding today’s performance.

Shortly thereafter had to be restrained from the heels of HANG FIVE (C. Collis) which shifted in when not fully clear. Rider C. Collis was subsequently severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a). Held up from the home turn and the remainder of the home straight. Went to the line without being fully tested.
SOBUTE – Slow to begin. Obliged to steady from heels near the 800m.
Race 5: LARRY CASSIDY BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1600 M
BOLD BOURBON (NZ) – Weakened over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had bled both nostrils. Trainer P. RHUVAAL – Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event. When asked to comment on the performance, rider C. Bellamy advised that in her opinion, the gelding over-raced which may have had a detrimental effect on its performance and failure to finish off in the home straight and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
Race 6: BRC MEMBERSHIP NO METRO WINS HANDICAP 1200 M
DOUBTING EYE – Hampered on jumping. Raced in restricted room near the 800m, then commenced to over-race for a short distance.

BOWRIDER – The starter advised post-race that the barrier blanket was inadvertently not applied as part of BOWRIDER’s raceday barrier gear. Correct weight was subsequently delayed to speak to trainer J. Bellamy regarding the matter. As stewards and trainer J. Bellamy were satisfied that the barrier blanket not being fixed did not have a detrimental effect on the start of the race, correct weight was declared. Fractious in the barriers. Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event.
CENTRE BOUNCE – Hampered on jumping away. Raced 4-wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
MEAN APPROACH – Over-raced in the early stages. Approaching the 900m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SUPER DUCK which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey S. Rutledge was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a).

YET HE MOVES – Raced 3-wide from the middle stages.
KIPLING'S JOURNEY – Laid out under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
GALIFIANAKIS (IRE) – Over-raced in the early stages.
NAVAL SEAL – Rider R. Maloney was reminded of his obligation to ride his mount to the finish. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted, rider R. Maloney advised he was instructed to have the gelding settle about midfield and then if possible, allow it to build momentum into the race. When questioned as to whether there was an opportunity to improve leaving the 800m in advance of YET HE MOVES and GALIFIANAKIS, which improved quickly to his outside resulting in NAVAL SEAL becoming pocketed, rider R. Maloney was of the view that NAVAL SEAL was not capable of sustaining a wide run from the 800m. Rider R. Maloney then elected to improve inside runners approaching the home turn where he was momentarily held up before gaining clear running from the 400m. Stewards, when considering the instructions issued, noted the comments tendered by Mr. Maloney. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
MASTER COPY (IRE) – Slow to begin. Over-raced passing the wining post on the first occasion and was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of KIPLINGS JOURNEY (M. Du Plessis) which shifted in. Jockey M. Du Plessis was advised to exercise greater care.

Race 8: MORETON HIRE BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1600 M

VICTORY WIN – As rider R. Maloney was overweight, he was replaced by rider C. Graham. Raced 3-wide for the majority.
SUPER CHILLED – Trainer C. Waller advised stewards of a change of tactics in that the mare would attempt to settle further forward. Ridden accordingly.
SHARP DAZZLER – Over-raced in the early stages. Forced wide early and then raced wide for the majority of the event. Taken wider when SOLAR APEX shifted out to improve leaving the 800m. When asked to comment, rider R. Stewart stated his instructions were to allow the gelding to settle towards the rear and if possible, come with one run. Rider R. Stewart stated that in the early part of the event, he bumped on several occasions with MIRACLE SPIN near the 1400m, and then again near the 1200m. When the pace slackened, MIRACLE SPIN shifted wider to improve, taking SHARP DAZZLER wider on the course. Rider R. Stewart added that in his opinion, the gelding did not appreciate being buffeted again, and when attempting to restrain for cover, SHARP DAZZLER over-raced, making it difficult for him to restrain his mount. Leaving the 800m, he was again taken wider by SOLAR APEX which shifted wider on the course to improve. Mr. Stewart added that in his opinion RED Dazzler was not suited by the tempo or being buffeted on several occasion in running, which had an effect on its finishing effort. Stewards noted his comments. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
Race 9: SKY RACING QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1350 M
APUNTAR – Cast its off-hind plate and was reshod prior to the start. Over-raced in the early stages. Shifted the near-hind plate after returning to the enclosure.
