WEATHER - FINE TRACK - SLOW RAIL - 4M. ALL TRACK

FROM QTC MEETING, 10.6.00.

Stewards today concluded an inquiry from an incident at the 1100m. in the Stradbroke H'cap. Further evidence was taken from G. Colless, rider of MR INNOCENT. D Gauci, rider of OVER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1100m., he permitted his mount to shift in, causing TOLEDO to be checked when tightened on to the hind quarters of MR INNOCENT. MAJOR, which was following, was obliged to shift in away from the heels of TOLEDO, resulting in BONANOVA being severely checked when tightened on to EL MIRADA. D. Gauci was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 11 meetings, to commence at midnight, 12 June, and to expire at midnight, 1 July 2000. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account that MAJOR had exacerbated the tightening to BONANOVA by racing fiercely when cramped.

CELTIC REVENGE was slow to begin.

A veterinary examination of OUR GEORGE, which compounded from the 500m., failed to reveal any abnormality.

After passing the 800m., CENTRELARINA and PITTANCE had to be steadied as VALLEY WARRIOR crossed. M. Paget, rider of VALLEY WARRIOR, was urged to provide more clearance in future.

C. Munce, rider of ROCKFELLER, was obliged to stop riding and straighten his mount on several occasions due to that horse's inclination to shift ground under pressure in the straight.

When questioned regarding the performance of RETURN TO GO, M. Cahill stated that the gelding, which was resuming from a prolonged spell, was struggling to keep pace with the field on the home turn and then hung in under pressure in the straight. A veterinary examination of RETURN TO GO failed to reveal any abnormality.

When questioned, G. Duffy stated that REENACT was never travelling that well and was off the bit in the middle stages to the extent where he was obliged to pull the whip on the colt prior to the home turn. He added that he was prevented from improving to the outside of the field on the home turn when the majority of the runners shifted wider on the track. He further added that whilst the colt had run on fairly over the final 100 metres, he was of the view that he was not entirely happy in the going . A veterinary examination of REENACT failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.
