WEATHER - FINE TRACK - DEAD/GOOD AFTER R.1 RAIL - OUT.10.5M ALL TRACK


RACE 1: BENGALLA LAD H'CAP - 1600M.

Rounding the home turn, ADJUSTED hung out.

On straightening, MADAM FRENCH raced under pressure, and near the 200m. the horse was eased out of the race by its jockey, M. Cahill. On return to scale, M. Cahill indicated that there was something amiss with the horse, resulting in him easing the horse when it was under extreme pressure. A veterinary examination of MADAM FRENCH subsequent to the race revealed the horse to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia, and the horse will be required to pass a barrier trial and undergo an ECG before racing again. A swab sample was taken from MADAM FRENCH.

Following race 1, the track rating was upgraded to good.


RACE 2: PARAVANE H'CAP - 1200M.

Approaching the 300m., UNAIDED and TENDERNESS brushed.

C. Maund, rider of SEMISONIC, was severely reprimanded for shifting out near the 200m., resulting in ROSE OF BYRON being checked.

Stewards questioned J. Taylor concerning the riding tactics adopted on WHIRLIGIG, particularly in the early stages as opposed to the horse's previous start when it raced outside the leader. J. Taylor explained that as the horse was coming back in distance and racing in blinkers, it was considered that the horse would not have sufficient speed to lead, and after travelling a short distance he elected to restrain the horse and take a trail as instructed. He further explained that whilst not having a lot of clear running in the straight, the horse was disappointed for a run close to the finish line when tightened for room between LILY'S BABY and PLAY MISTRESS.

SEA LILY pulled up lame in the near hind leg.


RACE 3: PARAVANE H'CAP - 1200M.

Trainer M. Brosnan was fined $25 for presenting CRIMSON AND GOLD to the enclosure without a nose roll.

SKY RULE jumped awkwardly.




RACE 4: CHARMOSA H'CAP - 1200M.

NIGHT IN VIENNA was slow to begin.
NICK'S PROMISE and IT'S GRAND began awkwardly.

J. Byrne, rider of YOUTHFUL, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 1000m., resulting in NED'S DEVINE being tightened for room. In this incident, stewards noted that NED'S DEVINE overreacted and raced ungenerously.

For some distance after leaving the 1000m., NICK'S PROMISE had to be steadied off the heels of YOUTHFUL.

Near the 800m., CALL TO HONOUR had to be steadied off the heels of NICK'S PROMISE.

At the 100m., KULANGO had his racing room restricted as a result of NED'S DEVINE being taken out by NICK'S PROMISE.



RACE 5: OSMUNDA H'CAP - 2229M.

Trainer K. Kelly was fined $100 for failing to arrive on course by the prescribed time.

ALL IN RHYTHM was declared a late scratching at 1.30 p.m. due to transport difficulties.

K. Bell, rider of CHINA STEPS, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in rounding the first turn, resulting in LUCKY MO being taken in on to PRAYDO, which was reluctant to hold its position.

Leaving the 400m., BODYGUARD was accidentally struck over the head by whip of J. Byrne, rider of MY FRIENDS.

On return to scale at the completion of the race, LORD ALANNON struck the running rail, dislodging M. Cahill.



RACE 6: JUST NOW H'CAP - 1300M.

Trainer D. Sutton was fined $50 for failing to notify a gear change for DIAMONDS FOR ME by the required time.

As J. Pollard was unable to make the weight, K. Bell was substituted as the rider of VICTORY BLEU. Following an explanation from trainer B. Wakefield concerning the engagement of J. Pollard, no action was taken..

DIAMONDS FOR ME, VICTORY BLEU and ST. KATE were all tightened for room at the start between PURE MAREE, which shifted in, and CASUAL WAY, which shifted out after jumping away awkwardly.

After travelling a short distance, CASUAL WAY had to be eased to avoid the heels of BUCOLIC.

ZULULU was inclined to shift out over the final 200 metres.

On the finishing line, BUCOLIC shifted in and made contact with ZULULU.

As P.G. Birney returned to scale half a kilogram under his allocated weight, stewards declared correct weight in accordance with the provisions of AR 143. Following an inquiry, stewards took no action, however they nonetheless advised jockey Birney to ensure there was no repetition.


RACE 7: DON'T PLAY H'CAP - 1300M.

Apprentice C. Maloney was unable to claim his full allowance and apprentice T. Hill was substituted as the rider of FORGING AWAY. As apprentice Maloney had recently been penalised in relation to this aspect, he was fined $200.

ADVANCE KNOWLEDGE and TOP KALA made heavy contact at the start.

GRUMANS was slow to begin.

Shortly after straightening, PEARL STAR shifted in and bumped OUR CULPRIT. A short distance later when being straightened, PEARL STAR shifted out and brushed GRUMANS, which in turn hampered PONTEVEDRA.

It was noted that ADVANCE KNOWLEDGE was unable to secure a clear run over the final 200 metres of the race.

When questioned in relation to the performance of PONTEVEDRA today, M. Paget explained that the horse commenced to hang out after leaving the 800m. and rounding the home turn shifted out and made contact with SCHARNHORST. He further explained that the horse raced ungenerously in the straight despite being in restricted room, and near the 200m. again shifted out and made contact with SCHARNHORST. Stable representative Mr R. Catherall felt that the horse backed up satisfactorily after its last performance, and undertook to monitor the horse after the race and advise stewards of anything that may have had any bearing on the performance today. PONTEVEDRA, which pulled up quickly after the finishing line, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon who indicated that the horse had sustained a small laceration to the near fore coronet.


RACE 8: LORD PENN H'CAP - 1400M.

BOLD DAN was slow to jump.

Approaching the crossing, MELLIERI commenced to race fiercely.

Making the home turn, MELLIERI shifted out and made contact with MOUGI.




RACE 9: LORD PENN H'CAP - 1400M.

Apprentice A. Morrison, rider of TARANTULA, was fined $100 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared riding weight.

CHOCKERS was slow to begin.

BUCKRIDGE jumped awkwardly.

Near the 1200m., SIR MARKIE shifted in momentarily, tightening CELTIC REVENGE.

CELTIC REVENGE was inclined to lay out after leaving the 1000m..

MASQUERADE was held up for clear running over the concluding stages of the race.

Near the finishing line, PRIMARY MOTIVE had to be steadied as a result of TIMBERGROVE shifting ground under pressure.

A veterinary examination of LORD OSCAR revealed that gelding to be suffering from the onset of a virus. Trainer T. Bita was advised he would be required to produce a veterinary certificate of fitness for LORD OSCAR before the horse again races.
