GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweight –
 
Race 2: 10. M. Harley +0.5kg (56kg)

Trainer S. Taylor was fined $200 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of riders on MINDSPACE and BOLD HOI HO (NZ) in Race 5.
 
Race 1: Apprentice C. Bellamy was fined $100 under AR 143(14)(a) for failing to claim her full allowance on LONESOME SOUL.
 
Race 1: RACECOURSE VILLAGE QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1400 M

On arrival to the barriers, BABUSHKA DOLL underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at Jockey T. Brookers request and was cleared to start.
 
LOVE TO TORQUE – Shifted in on jumping and bumped LONESOME SOUL.
 
MAYOR OF KINGSTON – Approaching the 500m laid in.
 
MISHANI PRINCE – Approaching the 500m was momentarily inconvenienced when MAYOR OF KINGSTON laid in.
 
LONESOME SOUL – Inconvenienced and bumped at the start when LOVE TO TORQUE shifted in.
 
BABUSHKA DOLL – Raced greenly when being restrained in the early stages.

Race 2: THE GIBSON MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M

BIG DEMEANOR – Bumped shortly after the start. When asked to comment on the performance of BIG DEMEANOR, Jockey A. Jones reported that the gelding travelled well until placed under pressure in the home straight and failed to quicken. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
BUNDELLA – Laid in in the early stages. Raced greenly in the home straight. Had some difficulty obtaining a clear run in the early stages of the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance of BUNDELLA, Jockey R. Maloney stated that the gelding raced greenly throughout, particularly under hard riding in the home straight.

OUT OF TURN – Raced wide throughout.
 
EL QUINTO – Shortly after the start, shifted out and bumped FREEDOM TO ROAM.
 
BRODIES VOYAGE – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 900m became crowded for room to the inside of BUNDELLA which laid in despite the efforts of its rider.
 
FREEDOM TO ROAM – Blundered at the start and became unbalanced. Hampered shortly after the start. Approaching the 200m, improved onto the heels of KADIATCHA MAN and was obliged to shift in. Approaching the 50m, laid out and became awkwardly placed at the heels of CAPITAL BEAUTY. When asked to comment on the performance of FREEDOM TO ROAM, Apprentice E. Lang reported that after receiving interference in the early stages, she was obliged to settle back. She added that she received further interference in the home straight, however, was pleased with the filly’s finishing efforts. Apprentice E. Lang commented that in her opinion, FREEDOM TO ROAM would derive benefit from today’s race. Lost its near fore plate in running.
 
Race 3: BRC MILLINERS MARKET 11 APRIL CLASS 3 PLATE    1600 M

HECTOR DE MARIS (IRE) – Leaving the 200m, was momentarily crowded for room to the inside of TAREX (NZ). Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
TAREX (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages. Leaving the 200m, shifted in under pressure before being corrected by its rider.
 
JOVITA – Rounding the home, turn laid in and became momentarily awkwardly placed at heels.  

Race 4: XXXX SIDELINE BEER GARDEN 3 MAY MAIDEN HANDICAP   1800 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 mins owing to MAN OF THE TOWN being difficult to load. Trainer L. Gough was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.

CHILLAXING (IRE) – Shifted out under pressure approaching the 250m.
 
MAN OF THE TOWN – Laid out rounding the home turn and under pressure over the concluding stages.
POSSIBILITIES – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance of POSSIBILITIES, Apprentice E. Lang reported that after settling back further in the field than anticipated, the filly failed to travel comfortably and in her opinion, may not have appreciated todays track conditions.A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in its off foreleg. Trainers representative B. Killian was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to POSSIBILITIES racing again.
 
CONVO – Raced wide throughout. Rounding the home turn, was carried wider by FIRE AND LIGHT which shifted out to improve. Near the 400m, bumped with FIRE AND LIGHT. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

KISS THE COSMOS (NZ)– Connections advised of a change of tactics in that KISS THE COSMOS (NZ) would attempt to settle more forward. Settled in a midfield position. Shifted in on jumping away.
 
VISCOUNT SYDNEY – Shifted out on jumping away.
 
KULKYNE – Inconvenienced and lost ground at the start when KISS THE COSMOS (NZ) shifted in and VISCOUNT SYDNEY shifted out on jumping.

Race 5: LADBROKES CALCUTTA & LUNCHEON 13 JUNE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP      1800 M

MINDSPACE – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
BOLD HOI HO (NZ) – Raced keenly in the middle stages. When questioned regarding the performance of BOLD HOI HO (NZ), Jockey D. Peisley commented that the gelding travelled well during the early and middle stages however he could offer no explanation the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of a slow recovery. Trainer S. Taylor advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
 
CALM SEEKER (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
COUNTER (GB) – Leaving the 100m was obliged to momentarily steady to avoid the heels of MINDSPACE, which laid in. Jockey D. Thornton the rider of MINDSPACE was reminded of his obligations exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
HILLCREST AVENUE (IRE) – Slow to begin. Approaching the 350m was disappointed for a run between BOLD HOI HO (NZ)and MINDSPACE and was obliged to shift in to secure clear running. When questioned regarding the performance of HILLCREST AVENUE (IRE), Apprentice C. Collis reported that the gelding over raced at its last start, and as such was instructed to ride it conservatively today. He added that HILLCREST AVENUE (IRE) travelled well during the early and middle stages, however was somewhat one paced when placed under pressure. Trainer S. Kendrick confirmed the instructions and was advised to report back on the geldings’ condition in the coming days. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Race 6: STRADBROKE SEASON BOOK NOW QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE    1400 M

FRATIANNO – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. When asked to comment on the performance of FRATIANNO, Jockey M. Harley reported that after jumping away awkwardly, he settled further back than anticipated. He added that the gelding failed to travel comfortably and was disappointing in its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of respiratory noise. Trainer C. Munce was advised that a veterinary certificate inclusive of an endoscopic examination would be required prior to racing.
 
JOPPA LANE – Bumped with STYLISH ANGEL on jumping away. Raced wide throughout. Jockey B. Thornton reported that after being obliged to race wide without cover the gelding commenced to tire over the final 150m.
 
LINWAR – Got its head up and raced ungenerously when approaching the 1000m.
 
ROYAL GLADIATOR – Held up from entering the home straight until approaching the 200m.
 
DUBIAS MISS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after becoming fractious in the tie up stalls and was cleared to race.
 
IT'S A CABARET– Began awkwardly.
 
SOME GIRLS – Hampered shortly after the start.
 
STYLISH ANGEL – Bumped with JOPPA LANE on jumping away.

Race 7: XXXX GOLD CLASS 5 HANDICAP   1200 M

BEAUTANTES - Began awkwardly. Approaching the 350m, Jockey N. Callow dropped his off-side rein before regathering it a short distance later.
 
KODIAK – Raced wide throughout. Jockey J. Martin reported that despite being caught wide, KODIAK travelled well in the early and middle stages however when placed under pressure approaching the 600m, the gelding became awkward in its action, before tiring over the final 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainers Representative J. Coetze was advised to report back on the condition of the gelding in the subsequent days.
 
DAMO DAYZ – Began awkwardly. Stewards inquired into the vigour shown by Jockey M. Harley in the early part of the home straight. Jockey M. Harley stated that his instructions were to have the gelding settle where comfortable and to allow his mount to balance up in the home straight before applying full pressure to DAMO DAYZ. He further added that when placed under pressure, the gelding only finished fairly and peaked in its run approaching the winning post. Trainer representative C. Cavanagh confirmed the instructions and added that DAMO DAYZ had a short sprint, and as such had to be ridden conservatively early in the home straight. Stewards noted the explanation for future reference.
 
RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS – Approaching the 1000m, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied when racing to the inside of BEAUTANTES which laid in and I AM A MARVEL which shifted out slightly.
 
I AM A MARVEL– Jockey C. Graham reported at scale that her mount was disappointing and may not have appreciated todays racing conditions. She added that in her opinion the gelding may be better suited to racing in a position with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Race 8: SKY RACING CLASS 4 HANDICAP  1400 M

INFLUENTIAL – Began awkwardly. Near the 1200m, became crowded and had to be steadied when CONNEWARRE shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 1100m to the inside of CONNEWARRE. Jockey T. Marshall the rider of CONNEWARRE, was reprimanded under AR 131(a) for careless riding.
 
CONNEWARRE – Raced wide until the 800m. When asked to comment on the performance of CONNEWARRE, Jockey T. Marshall stated that the gelding had a tendency to lay in when racing wide in the early and middle stages and that in his opinion may not have appreciated todays track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of a slow recovery.
 
PIONEER LASS – Dropped his whip approaching the 100m.
 
SINGER SARGENT– Slow into stride.
 
Race 9: LADBROKES SAME RACE MULTI BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP       1000 M
 
Prior to the start of this event, DEVASTATING underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start after becoming fractious upon entering the mounting yard and making contact with a section of rail.
 
SICILIAN – Raced wide for the majority.
 
KAVAK – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 200m, improved onto heels and was obliged to shift in to secure clear running.
 
DECISIVE LASS – Began awkwardly. Held up approaching the 350m until leaving the 300m.
 
BEACHSIDE BABE – Jockey G. Cartwright reported that her mount was first up, over-raced and in her opinion would derive fitness benefit from today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying signs of a slow recovery.
