App D. McWhinney, the rider of I EXCEL, was advised to exercise more care in future after allowing his mount to shift in after passing the winning post and tightening the running of TRIVIAL MISS.

App B. Richardson, the rider of the 5th placegetter, EAT MORE DUST, was issued with a reprimand for failing to weigh in.

Race 2: Supa IGA Gatton QTIS Maiden Plt – 1100m
1st – Toronto Dancer 2nd – Eureka Pearls 3rd – Malbra 4th – Belle Motrice

The start of this race was delayed as SOMERSET QUEEN (App G. Coleman) was very reluctant to leave the parade ring, and then proved very difficult to take to the barriers.

GOVERNOR ROYAL (App K. Ashton) which was fractious jumped in the air at the start and lost ground.

Shortly after the start MIGHTY TSUIMAI (M.Heagney) was tightened for room by SPECIAL WEEKEND (App T. Fujinuma), which shifted out slightly, and TERRA CHENKA (S. Bayliss), which shifted in.

TORONTO DANCER (S. Richardson) raced wide in the early stages.

SALUTE THE DIGGER (C. Eaton), which was over-racing, had to be steadied approaching the 800m, when tightened between TERRA CHENKA and TORONTO DANCER, which shifted in slightly despite the efforts of its rider.

SPECIAL WEEKEND shifted in at the 400m to obtain clear running.

SOMERSET QUEEN hung out rounding the home turn.

EUREKA PEARLS (N. Evans) was taken wider on the track rounding the home turn by SALUTE THE DIGGER, which shifted out to obtain clear running.

When questioned into the seemingly disappointing performance of TERRA CHENKA, jockey S. Bayliss reported that he was very disappointed with the run, he stated that the mare travelled well early, but never let down when asked for an effort from about the 600m.

When attempting to return SOMERSET QUEEN to the saddling enclosure after the race, the mare became fractious and dislodged App Coleman. Trainer M. Guldbransen was advised that SOMERSET QUEEN would have to pass an official trial to the satisfaction of stewards for its poor pre and post race behaviour.

Race 3: Gatton Tyre Centre Class B H’cap – 1100m
1st – Boardies 2nd – Gidday Gidday 3rd – Precious Girl 4th – That’swhatyouget

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by stable representative R. Smith, into the reasons for N. Tomizawa being a late declaration as the rider of FEARTHEDAWN.

LITTLE BILLIE (App K. James) was bumped at the start by NOAHCHENKA (W. Abbey) which jumped out at the start, and BOARDIES (S. Drake) which shifted in.

Race 4: Crime Stoppers Class 4 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Hussminda 2nd – Pro Jaasi 3rd – So Shall This 4th – Emmertt

LIGHTS OFF (C. Eaton) was slow to begin.

COSMIC CRUZ (A. Erhart) was tightened for room at the start between SO SHALL THIS (J. McKinnon) and ITS JUST SMALLTALK (App G. Coleman) which shifted in.

EMERTT (App S. Arnold), INNOCENT BILLY (App S. Wiseman) and PRO JAASI (App D. McWhinney) raced wide throughout.

App K. Ashton the rider of TAMOSE, reported that her mount was inclined to hang-in for the entire race. At approximately the 150m TAMOSE shifted in, despite the efforts of Ms Ashton, inconveniencing ITS JUST SMALLTALK which had to be steadied. Trainer M. Palmer was advised that a warning would be placed on TAMOSE for hanging-in throughout the event.

HUSSMINDA (N. Evans) shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages.

Correct weight for this race was delayed due to EMMERTT collapsing on pulling up resulting in App S. Arnold being dislodged, shortly after this EMMERTT galloped down the 1600m chute before collapsing again. As a result EMMERTT required veterinary attention and was therefore unable to be unsaddled, acting under the provisions of AR. 142, stewards ruled that EMMERTT had carried its correct weight and correct weight was declared on the semaphored numbers. A post-race Veterinary examination of EMMERTT revealed the gelding to be suffering from severe heat stress, tying-up and dehydration. Trainer C. Smith was advised that a Veterinary certificate of fitness be required prior to the horse being permitted to race again.

Race 5: Voight Contracting Class 1 H’cap – 1600m
1st – Sam’s Crossing 2nd – Noela’s Romp 3rd – I Love Tobouggie 4th – Resonating

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer A. Jeynes, into the reasons for App S. Arnold being a late declaration as the rider of RESONATING.

RESONATING (App S. Arnold) jumped in the air and shifted out at the start making heavy contact with CRAIC OF MAGIC (M. Heagney).

NOELA’S ROMP (S. Richardson) raced wide in the early stages.

RESONATING raced in restricted room on the fence to the inside of AREA FIFTYONE (App S. Wiseman) which shifted in approaching the 1100m. Apprentice Wiseman was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

SAM’S CROSSING (App D. McWhinney) was held up briefly behind the tiring AREA FIFTYONE at the 400m.

Apprentice D. McWhinney was issued with a severe reprimand for allowing his mount to shift out from a point leaving the 150m until bumping NOELA’S ROMP at the winning post.

Stewards questioned App S. Wiseman into the seemingly disappointing performance of AREA FIFTYONE which began to lose ground approaching the 400m. Ms Wiseman stated that she was instructed to let the gelding stride forward in the early stages, which she did and the horse seemed to be travelling well up until being placed under pressure from the 400m, when it did not respond to her riding. Ms Wiseman added that in her opinion the 4 week break between runs contributed to the performance.

Jockey B. Cornell reported that MILORA MONARCH pulled hard and was a spent force at the 600m.

The rider of LADY PEMM, S. Drake, reported that the lack of genuine early speed in the race did not suit her mount, and in her opinion the mare was better suited on tracks that were not as firm as today’s surface.

Jockey C. Eaton reported that LALOR was inclined to hang-in throughout the event.
