TRUE POSITION FOR REMAINDER OF TRACK
STEWARDS’ MR T BAILEY (CHAIRMAN), MR J HAIGH, MR J GRAHAM,

RACE 1 – MOVE CLOSER (CLASS 3) HANDICAP – 2,200 METRES
PRINCE MONARCO was slowly away.
L MOLONEY (TIROL TAVERN) was issued with a reprimand for endeavouring to take up a position on the fence and inside of LUCKY MO where there was insufficient room. As a result of this LUCKY MO was obligated to shift out and for some distance had to be restrained off the heels of APOLLO THEATRE.
In the early stages of the home straight TIROL TAVERN had difficulty in obtaining clear running and in doing so made contact with the hind quarters of both NAVROSE LAD and APOLLO THEATRE.
A veterinary examination of TIROL TAVERN after the race revealed a minor laceration to the off fore pastern and also a scalping wound to the off hind pastern.
RACE 2 – ARMIDA SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES (TWO-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES
On jumping DARK FLYER and CATCH STEVE were crowded for room between THIS MANSHOOD and LEGAL OPINION both of which shifted ground.
Near the 900 metres PIANO LADY had to be restrained to avoid the heels of BROWN DIRT COWBOY which shifted in when not quite clear. This resulted in MINER’S UNION which was following having to be restrained for some distance and become unbalanced. B STEWART (BROWN DIRT COWBOY) was issued with a severe reprimand and advised of the repercussions should he continue to allow his mounts to shift ground when not sufficiently clear.
Inside the 800 metres OCEAN BOY was checked to avoid the heels of CHIP OFF THE BLOCK.
Stewards ordered a veterinary examination of STRONG MEDICINE after it finished a distant last. This revealed the gelding to be shin sore in both fore legs. Mr B HILL, the representative for Trainer G RYAN assured the stewards that STRONG MEDICINE would now be sent for a spell.
RACE 3 – PARIS FORTUNE MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,300 METRES
On jumping ROWDY BOY shifted in and bumped SUGAR RAIN.
KOOLMAN KRAMMER blundered shortly after the start.
Approaching the 1,000 metres INTENTIONS shifted in momentarily resulting in BRIDE PRICE to be steadied.
TELL DARCY made the home turn extremely wide.
Stewards ordered a veterinary examination of KOOLMAN KRAMMER after it pulled up a distant last. This revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer G STEWART was advised that KOOLMAN KRAMMER must perform in a barrier trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before it is permitted to race again.
RACE 4 – BLAZING FLIGHT (CLASS 1) HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES
MARCASITE stepped back as the start was effected and as a result lost considerable ground.
PRIDE OF THE TURF was inclined to lay in under pressure for a major part of the home straight.
RACE 5 – STYLISH CENTURY (CLASS 4) HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES
GO JUAN GO was a late withdrawal at 7:55 a.m. Trainer B BOWDITCH was fined the sum of $100 for failing to withdraw that gelding by the prescribed time.
Inside the final 100 metres TERJULE was disappointed for clear running between ILUMBAH and PASHA’S GIRL and eventually had to be checked nearing the winning post.
Both VITAL ASSET and SPIRIT OF VENUS were obliged to race wide throughout.
RACE 6 – BRIGHTER SCENE (COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES) CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES
For some distance in the early stages of the straight BIRDWATCHER raced in restricted room between TRI MIRACLE and BROKEN SILENCE which was inclined to shift out slightly under pressure and as a result of this BIRDWATCHER went to the post not fully tested.
Approaching the 200 metres COOL LOU was checked when crowded for room between RIVER’S RUN which shifted out slightly and BROKEN SILENCE which shifted in under pressure whilst being ridden along with the whip. In all the circumstances no direct action was taken, however, A MORRISON (BROKEN SILENCE) was reminded of his obligations to stop riding and straighten his mounts when they have a tendency to shift ground.
Approaching the winning post RIVER’S RUN had to be eased when crowded for room between MIGHTY RED and BROKEN SILENCE both of which shifted ground under pressure.
L HARRIS (HAVE A SAY) reported after the race that his mount was inclined to hang in quite badly throughout the race.
A veterinary examination of BROKEN SILENCE after the race revealed that gelding to be suffering from respiratory distress. The horse was also sent to be swabbed.
RACE 7 – DASHING PARTNER (FILLIES & MARES) CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1,400 METRES
At no stage in the straight did ST. ESTE obtain clear running and subsequently went to the winning post not fully tested.
Over the concluding stages of the race A PATTILLO (TOAST A LADY) was obliged to stop riding his mount when it had a tendency to shift ground under pressure and this resulted in CELENTO which was following having to be eased.
Approaching the winning post THE ADVY was checked to avoid the heels of ASTRAL JOIE which shifted in under pressure whilst being ridden along with the whip. A MERRITT (AUSTRAL JOIE) was reminded of his obligations when his mounts had a tendency to shift ground.
RACE 8 –GENERAL NEDIYM WELTER – 1,400 METRES
Leaving the 1,200 metres the pace of the race slackened considerably and as a result JIMBOOMBA JACK had to be restrained for some distance off the heels of STEEL SHUFFLE. Due to this incident a number of runners which were following were subjected to crowding, the main sufferers being CHIMING LASS, GLINT OF HEART, SISTER THERESA and FOREIGN MINISTER which was checked after striking the running rail. All riders were given a general warning that incidents such as this one were of major concern to the Stewards. They were advised that further action may have to be considered should incidents such as these continue.
Inside the 700 metres FOREIGN MINISTER had to be eased to avoid the heels of JIMBOOMBA JACK.
A PATTILLO (STAY ME BROKE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for failing to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting out inside the 300 metres when insufficiently clear of STEEL SHUFFLE causing that horse to be checked. A PATTILLO’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence midnight Sunday 4 June 2000 and to expire midnight Wednesday 14 June 2000. Stewards took into account A PATTILLO’s good riding record and also his guilty plea.
EIGHT WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED ALONG WITH BROKEN SILENCE.
