RACE 1 – TINY’S FINITO (TWO-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP DIV. 1 – 1,300 METRES

ZINA ZULU jumped very awkwardly and shifted out causing NEVER IN DOUBT to be checked severely, which in turn shifted out making heavy contact with OBERNUDIUS.

At the start COTES jumped inwards making heavy contact with PHILIBE which then crowded PLAYGROUND.

Near the 1,000 metres COTES had to be checked and shifted out to avoid the heels of FLOW which had steadied the pace in front. As a result of this COTES shifted out and forced ZINA ZULU wider on the track. Due to this incident a number of runners which were following were inconvenienced, the main sufferers being PHILIBE, SPECIALIST and to a lesser extent PLAYGROUND. M RODD (FLOW) was reminded of his obligations to his fellow riders in similar circumstances in the future.

Approaching the 800 metres PHILIBE became unbalanced when racing in restricted room between PLAYGROUND and COTES and as a result shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of COTES.

RACE 2 – SMITH’S SNACK FOOD (TWO-YEARS-OLD) MAIDEN HANDICAP – DIV. 2 – 1,300 METRES

Due to a car breakdown APP C MALONEY was unable to fulfil his engagement on ENTITY. Stewards permitted APP A MERRITT to be substituted.

L HARRIS (BEAU FILS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in soon after the start causing crowding to THE AWESOME CHANCE, PROWLING AROUND and MISS GROSVENOR which was checked severely and also ENTITY which was checked severely. L HARRIS’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence immediately and to expire midnight 9 August 2000. When assessing penalty Stewards took into account L HARRIS’ good race riding record.

For a major part of the race ENTITY was obliged to race wide.

RACE 3 – STA TRAVEL MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1,300 METRES

Leaving the 1,000 metres KING OBERON attempted to shift out around the heels of BLERICK to improve and as a result made contact with ROLITA which was holding its ground. This resulted in KING OBERON getting its head in the air, becoming unbalanced and lose ground.

RACE 4 – EUREST (CLASS 2) HANDICAP – 2,200 METRES

RACE 5 – STUDENT GUILD (CLASS 4) HANDICAP – 1, 800 METRES

Nil report

RACE 6 – GRIFFITH UNIVERSITY GOLD COAST (FILLIES & MARES) CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES

TUPELO jumped very awkwardly and lost considerable ground.

Leaving the 400 metres until nearing the 200 metres TUPELO was unable to improve when disappointed for clear running.

At no stage in the home straight was LAURIE’S ANGEL able to obtain clear running.

Near the 100 metres ZATRICE which was commencing to weaken had to be checked when crowded for room between TUPELO which shifted out and FLIGHT ACE which had shifted back in after receiving a bump from ZATRICE. In all the circumstances no further action was taken however, C SMALL (TUPELO) was reminded of his obligations when attempting runs where there is doubtful room.

RACE 7 – COCA-COLA AMATIL (COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES) CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1,200 METRES

GODZILLA GORILLA was a late withdrawal at 11:40 a.m. acting on veterinary advice.

J HOOPERT (DARTANYON) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in near the 900 metres leaving insufficient room for RIO PELLIGRINO which was crowded and MEDOWIE GOLD which was checked. J HOOPERT’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence midnight 30 July 2000 and to expire midnight 9 August 2000. When assessing penalty stewards took into account J HOOPERT’s exceptionally good race riding record.

J HOOPERT (DARTANYON) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in near the 700 metres causing RIO PELLIGRINO to be checked. J HOOPERT’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence midnight 30 July 2000 and to expire midnight 9 August 2000. Both suspensions are to be served concurrently.

Near the 200 metres AGENT RED was checked across the heels of DARTANYON and shifted out to obtain clear running.

J BAKER (HIGH JUMP) was issued with a reprimand for failing to weigh in for fifth place.

RACE 8 – THE FLY COASTER CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1,300 METRES

Stewards accepted Jockey K BELL’s explanation as to the reason why he was engaged to ride both GRAND CAYMAN and EL CARGO in this particular race. A BAKER was subsequently substituted as the rider of GRAND CAYMAN, however, K BELL was fined $50 under AR8(e) for negligently failing to rectify the situation within a reasonable time frame.

TAD PATTILLO (HULA CITY) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in near the 900 metres when not clear of THE SCOUNDREL causing that horse to be checked and SLY DANCER to its inside to be crowded and as a result STATELY ROSE which was following having to be checked severely to avoid the heels of THE SCOUNDREL. TAD PATTILLO’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence midnight 1 August 2000 and to expire midnight 10 August 2000.

Near the 600 metres HULA CITY shifted in momentarily hampering SLY DANCER.

THE SCOUNDREL bled for the second time and is now ineligible to race under the Australian rules of Racing.

STATELY ROSE pulled up lame in the off hind leg and will now be retired to stud.

It was reported by trainer K PATTILLO that HULA CITY lost its off fore plate during the race.
