Race 1: 3 Weeks 'Til Carlton Draught Gold Coast Stakes Class 3 H'Cap - 1000m
1st - Inside Knowledge 2nd - Garibaldi 3rd - Lightninghill 4th - Double Lineage
GARIBALDI (D. Griffin) shifted out at the start making contact with INSIDE KNOWLEDGE (G. Auckram).
NASARLO (R. Pittman) jumped away awkwardly.
Race 2: Pacific Fair Shopping Centre 3 YO & Up Maiden Plate - 900m
1st - Miss Monash 2nd - The Darkcee 3rd - Bentley Boy 4th - Wine O'Clock
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the late gear change of pacifiers off for BENTLEY BOY (D. Griffin).
App. M. Sharpe was reprimanded for failing to claim her full allowance on SOZZANI. In determining penalty stewards took into account it was App. Sharpe's first offence of this nature.
Shortly after the start HOLY MOSES (M. Smith-Lester) was tightened for room between WINE O'CLOCK (C. Whitelely) and THE DARKCEE (D. Tanti) which shifted out.
Shortly after the start SYLVAN ROAD (N. Day) bucked and continued to do so for one (1) stride. After taking evidence from jockey N. Day and trainer A. Bailey's representative Mr T. Bailey stewards placed a warning on the horse. Stewards also questioned jockey N. Day regarding the disappointing performance of SYLVAN ROAD. N. Day stated that the horse did not appreciate today's heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of SYLVAN ROAD revealed a laceration to the near fore pastern and a swab sample was taken. Trainer A. Bailey's representative Mr T. Bailey was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to it's next start.
Approaching the 700 metres SYLVAN ROAD had to be steadied off the heels of THE DARKCEE which shifted in momentarily.
Approaching the 200 metres B. Payne the rider of KING FAIR accidentally dropped her whip.
Approaching the 150 metres TRYLION (C. Small) had to be steadied off the heels of SYLVAN ROAD which was weakening. TRYLION then continued to race ungenerously for a short distance.
As App. M. Sharpe (SOZZANI) was dislodged enroute back to the scales following Race 2 she was unable to be weighed in as the 5th placegetter.
Race 3: Globe Interiors Maiden H'Cap - 1300m
1st - No More Grey 2nd - Silver Dane 3rd - Latin Idol 4th - Odyssey Belle
Jockey A. Best was unable to fulfil his riding engagement due to transport difficulties and was replaced by R. Pittman as the rider of COSMOSIS.
TESEKKURLER (App. S. Nakamura) and HAWAIIAN DANCER (B. Swanton) came together on jumping away.
BALMORAL BURN (A. Merritt) and COSMOSIS (R. Pittman) brushed on jumping away.
LATIN IDOL (P. Hammersley) jumped awkwardly.
Approaching the 800 metres ARTISTIC NYMPH (P. Brown) which was overracing had to be steadied when tightened for room by TESEKKURLER which was taken in by WARNE'S GIRL (M. Paget) which was tightened by NO MORE GREY (D. Griffin).
Approaching the 800 metres GLIMPSES (N. Day) hung out across the heels of BALMORAL BURN.
COSMOSIS, NO MORE GREY and ODYSSEY BELLE (S. Jones) raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 400 metres TESEKKURLER shifted out to improve around the heels of GLIMPSES and in doing so had to be checked off the heels of COSMOSIS which shifted in slightly whilst losing ground.
Approaching the 350 metres COSMOSIS had to be steadied off the heels of GLIMPSES which shifted out.
Race 4: Baker Johnson Lawyers Fillies & Mares Class 1 H'Cap - 1200m
1st - Kaindara Gold 2nd - Grigingly 3rd - Pimpala Dancer 4th - Moss Mania
PLENTY COOL (M. Traecey) jumped awkwardly.
GREAT SUMMER (G. Auckram) jumped outwards at the start losing ground.
TRIOSEE (A. Best) and MOSS MANIA (J. Lowe) were slow to begin.
MOSS MANIA raced wide throughout.
Rounding the home turn PLENTY COOL (M. Traecey) had to be steadied off the heels of TRIOSEE which shifted in momentarily.
Race 5: Fujitsu Coolcraft Engineering Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1 H'Cap - 1200m
1st - Our James 2nd - Debacle 3rd - Pass The Stone 4th - Kalinga Matt
The start was delayed when RODGE became fractious in the barriers dislodging its rider D. Griffin. RODGE underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
DODGE BEAUTY (M. Traecey) jumped awkwardly.
OUR JAMES (P. Hammersley) which jumped away awkwardly shifted in and made contact with DE BONO (N. Day).
PRECIS (C. Small) raced wide throughout.
Rounding the home turn RODGE had to be steadied off the heels of PASS THE STONE (A. Best) which shifted out. KALINGA MATT (App. T. Huxham) which was following also had to be steadied and alter course.
PRECIS lost it's near fore plate in running.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SCUTT jockey D. Tanti stated that the gelding did not handled today's heavy track conditions and when asked for an effort at the 400 metres failed to respond to his riding.
Race 6: Lewis Land Group Class 2 H'Cap - 1400m
1st - Belamonte 2nd - Mazacar 3rd - Oriental Peace 4th - Poop Deck Pappy
Stewards questioned jockey P. Cuddihy (ORIENTAL PEACE) in relation to returning to scale in excess of 1/2 kilo overweight. After taking evidence from P. Cuddihy his explanation was noted and no further action taken.
ORIENTAL PEACE jumped awkwardly.
DUCARO (A. Best) raced wide throughout.
Leaving the 1100 metres ORIENTAL PEACE had to be steadied off the heels of MAZACAR (D. Griffin) which shifted in. D. Griffin was reprimanded and reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
At the 300 metres BELTINSKI (D. Tanti) shifted out and brushed RUNNING WARRIOR (B. Swanton).
Stewards questioned D. Tanti in relation to the disappointing performance of BELTINSKI. D. Tanti stated that after beginning well BELTINSKI was able to settle back in the field and approaching the 400 metre mark when called upon for an effort failed to respond to his riding. Stewards also questioned trainer B. Guy's representative Mr B. Briffa who stated that the filly had been nearing the end of a long preparation and would be sent for an immediate spell. Mr Briffa undertook to notify stewards in the ensuing days of anything that may come to light that may have affected the horse's performance.
Race 7: The Gold Coast Bulletin Class 4 H'Cap - 1300m
1st - Mr Lister 2nd - Nediym's Image 3rd - Admiralty's Girl 4th - Perdee
Trainer T. Hamade was fined the sum of $100.00 under LR70 for late declaration of rider for STAR SAUVAGE.
The start was delayed when AFFECTED (D. Tanti) reared and broke through the barriers. AFFECTED was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4.16 p.m. STRIKING TIME (W. Wheatley) was also declared at late scratching at 4.16 p.m. after refusing to load. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on both AFFECTED and STRIKING TIME were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 20 cents in the dollar for a win and 19 cents in the dollar for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer G. Heinrich was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of AFFECTED. Trainer B. Dodson was advised that STRIKING TIME must perform in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again.
Approaching the 800 metres ADMIRALTY'S GIRL (C. Whitelely) shifted out and bumped PUSHPIG (N. Day).
Approaching the 50 metre mark PERDEE (D. Browne) and CHIPPY'S PICK (R. Pittman) became unbalanced as a result of PUSHPIG (N. Day) which was racing to the outside of both horses shifted in and away from MR LISTER (A. Best).
Race 8: Ray White Corporate Class 6 H'Cap - 1400m
1st - Kanetoshi Millions 2nd - My Chinese King 3rd - Pistol Knight 4th - Red Pill
PENETRATOR (B. Payne) and REAR ADMIRAL (D. Tanti) both jumped away awkwardly.
Shortly after the start SUUBIRD (C. Whiteley) had to be steadied off the heels of BUCK SEASON (M. Smith-Lester) which shifted out.
Approaching the 800 metres REAR ADMIRAL which improved to the inside of PENETRATOR had to be steadied when PENETRATOR shifted in slightly.
RED PILL (N. Day) and PENETRATOR raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 300 metres SUUBIRD when attempting a run where there was doubtful room between REAR ADMIRAL and KANETOSHI MILLIONS (D. Green) made heavy contact with the hind quarters of KANETOSHI MILLIONS forcing that horse in. SUUBIRD then became unbalanced and shifted out clipping the heels of KANETOSHI MILLIONS and severely blundering. Jockey C. Whiteley was reminded of his obligations to ensure there is sufficient room when attempting a run.
MY CHINESE KING (D. Browne) shifted out under pressure in the straight.
Approaching the 250 metres BUCK SEASON had to be steadied off the heels of ARMAMENT (A. Best) which shifted in.
Approaching the 200 metres RED PILL had to be steadied and alter course when racing up onto the heels of PENETRATOR which was weakening.
ALL WINNERS PLUS SYLVAN ROAD AND BELTINSKI WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
