Lang stated that at a point approaching the 700m, she had given consideration to shift three wide when the pace of the race had steadied, however was unable to do so when FIELD OF MYRTLE improved to her outside and a short distance later when CHERRY ROSE shifted wider she was then awkwardly placed at that runners heels and was then unable to improve her position until approaching the 200m. She further added that when trailing CHERRY ROSE approaching the home turn, she expected that runner to quicken, however, this did not eventuate, and this ultimately resulted in her being unable to improve until shifting wider around that runners heels near the 200m. Apprentice E. Lang added that in hindsight she felt that she may have been better served shifting to a three wide position around CHERRY ROSE earlier than she attempted to do, however given that runner was a favored runner in the event, she still felt that when caught racing behind from the 600m, she expected CHERRY ROSE to perform better than it had. Stewards noted Apprentice E. Lang’s explanation.
