GENERAL
As apprentice B Wheeler was indisposed for today’s meeting, the following rider replacements were as per the Stewards’ Raceday Summary.
 
Stewards permitted the following overweight allowance:
Race 8. D. Smith +1kg
 
 
Race 1: SHERRIN RENTALS QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD BM58 HANDICAP        1100 Metres
 
AQUATIER – Cast the near fore plate in running.
 
HACKING – Slow to begin. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Rider S. Collett reported in her opinion the filly did not handle the synthetic surface.
 
SIDLED – Laid out rounding the turn near the 600m. Near the 300m, shifted in onto the heels of SOUL BROTHER and had to be momentarily steadied. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages and rider M. Wishart was obliged to stop riding and straighten the gelding.
 
SOUL BROTHER – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
 
 
Race 2: MARTIN COLLINS AUSTRALIA MAIDEN PLATE      1400 Metres
 
ANACARDIUM – Hampered near the 1100m.
 
RUBOS – Raced wide throughout.
 
DENUTO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after dislodging its rider at the Gold Coast meeting on Saturday the 29th of March and being declared a late scratching at the meeting. When asked to comment on performance of the gelding and the tactics adopted, jockey D. Thornton stated that no specific instructions were issued other than to allow the gelding to settle where comfortable. Jockey Thornton explained that after beginning well, WARNA (K. Wilson Taylor) improved into a narrow run to his inside shortly after the start. Following thereafter, his mount was inclined to lay out and proved difficult to ride. Approaching the 1100m, when attempting to restrain for cover, IN SOCIETY (apprentice S. Inglese) had improved to his inside, obliging DENUTO to race wide until approaching the 600m. Jockey Thornton further reported that the gelding proved very disappointing and failed to respond to his riding in today’s event. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer K. Lees was advised that DENUTO would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming and the gelding would also be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
 
IN SOCIETY – Hampered near the 1100m. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
WINDFLOWER – Near the 800m improved onto heels and was steadied. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
 
Race 3: ACCESS INSULATION SUNSHINE COAST BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP       1400 Metres
 
NOTACLUEHOWORWHO – Slow to begin. Apprentice J. McMurray reported that after beginning very slowly, the gelding never travelled in today’s event and proved disappointing in its performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer G. Duncan was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for its barrier manners. Mr Duncan also stated that it would be his intention not to start NOTACLUEHOWORWHO on a synthetic track in the future.
 
ROCK LOBSTER – On jumping away, shifted out and contacted LOVEZELADYS.
 
LOVEZELADYS – Hampered on jumping. Raced wide from the 800m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 4: HIGGINS COATINGS BM62 HANDICAP         1400 Metres
 
RIDEAU – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
WONFORWAZZA – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Forced wider near the 1200m.
 
CRAZY EYED FRED – Hampered on jumping and lost ground.
 
TOUCHOFCLASS (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
PROMETIO MAS – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Rider J. Murphy reported that in his opinion, the gelding felt uncomfortable in its action in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
FOREBEARS – Near the 1200m, was awkwardly placed at heels, severely restrained and forced wider when RIDEAU shifted in. Apprentice J. Williams, rider of RIDEAU was severely reprimanded for careless riding for this incident pursuant to AR131(a).
 
 
Race 5: CALOUNDRA RSL QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE      1000 Metres
 
PHIL UP – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
PRECISE TORQUE – Slow to begin. Cast the off fore plate during the event.
 
MO'S MARVEL – Underwent a post race veterinary examination after being tailed off from the body of the field, which revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer L. Birchley was advised that MO’S MARVEL would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming to racing.
 
PRONTO PERCY – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination on arrival to course due to transportation complications and was cleared to start.
 
SECURE BELL - Approaching the 800m, commenced to over race and improved onto the heels of PRONTO PERCY and shifted wider.
 
TAYLOR'S RAGE – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 6: KEVLACAT POWER BOATS AUSTRALIA MAIDEN PLATE (SET WEIGHTS)      1000 Metres
 
BUTLER CABIN – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
PROUD MISS – Approach 100m, had to be steadied when racing in restricted room between SPELLHOUND which shifted and had to be corrected by its rider and SPRING BIRD.
 
ROXSET – Shortly after the start, apprentice G Semmens lost the use of her offside iron before regathering a short distance later.
 
SPRING BIRD – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare in relation to its barrier manners after proving difficult to load. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor was fined $200 in pursuant to AR131(b) for failing to fully ride his mount out fully to the line.
 
DENMAN AVENUE – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 7: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS BM62 HANDICAP         1000 Metres
 
DARE TO SHARE - Apprentice S. Willis was found guilty of a charge pursuant to AR131(b) in that she failed to fully ride her mount to the line over the concluding stages. Apprentice Willis was fined $200.
 
MIO SORRENTO – Held up for clear running until near the 300m.
 
CURRY LEGEND – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice J. Williams could offer no explanation for the gelding’s disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have mild heat stress.
 
IPHIMEDIA – Raced wide throughout.
 
MONT ROYAL– Improved onto heels near the 250m and was steadied.
 
SEEYOU LATER – Steadied from heels and obliged to shift in to obtain clear running near the 250m when I AM FEARLESS shifted out. Jockey H. Richardson, rider of I AM FEARLESS, was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a).
 
KAT CHINNA – Began awkwardly.
 
I AM FEARLESS - Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 8: TAB BM62 HANDICAP        1600 Metres
 
The start of this race was delayed approximately 3 minutes when KASEAR required farrier attention on arrival at the barriers.
 
PORKY – When asked to comment on the performance, rider P. Hamblin reported that he was instructed to take up a forward position if possible and that near the 300m, the gelding failed to respond to his riding and commenced to give ground in the home straight. Jockey P. Hamblin recommended to the connections to consider experimenting with adding a tongue tie to the gelding’s gear.
 
LOYALTY COUNTS – Raced wide throughout.
 
GOT YOURSELF A GUN - Trainer P. Bobic was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. Slow to begin.
 
FLY FIFER – Raced wide throughout.
 
TIGON PRINCESS – Raced keenly at heels near the 1100m.
 
CHANGE THE DEEL – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming to racing.
 
MYGIRLGLADYS – Raced wide throughout.
 
KASEAR – On arrival at the barriers, the mare required farrier attention to replace the near fore plate.
