RACING QUEENSLAND CELEBRATES NAIDOC WEEK 2023

The racing industry will celebrate NAIDOC Week 2023 with showcase races in each of the three codes, as part of Racing Queensland’s commitment to strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Racing Queensland is proud to celebrate NAIDOC Week, which runs from July 2-9, with the races spread across all three codes:

  • Greyhounds at Capalaba on Sunday, July 2 - RQ NAIDOC Celebration Chase
  • Thoroughbreds at Warwick on Thursday, July 6 - RQ NAIDOC Celebration Race
  • Harness at Albion Park on Saturday, July 15 - RQ NAIDOC Celebration Pace.

The races are dedicated to acknowledging and respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities in Queensland and forms part of RQ’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2022-2024.

RQ Innovate RAP Artwork and NAIDOC Week branding will feature on the handler’s bibs, strappers bibs, saddle cloths, harness helmet covers, harness colours and winner’s presentation rugs at all three of the races.

The winner of each race will be presented with RQ NAIDOC Week Trophy.

The RAP provides the foundation for RQ to build trust and strengthen relationships both internally and externally; deepen its understanding and respect for First People’s rich history, cultures and achievements; and promotes sustainable partnerships and opportunities with local communities.
