Richardson hopeful of Breeders Plate success

Glenn Richardson was an institution training out of Nanango for over a decade but he’s now hopeful his new home at Toowoomba will be a catalyst to greater success.

Richardson has been training for around 18 years, mostly at Nanango, before making a move three months ago to the Bahram training facility at Westbrook on Toowoomba’s outskirts.

He will send promising filly Tinkerbella to Rockhampton on Friday for the Breeders Plate over 1050 metres at Callaghan Park.

“I ‘ve been training for around 18 years and I was at Nanango for over a decade,” Richardson said.

“I was at Gympie for a brief time, as well. 

“So, I moved to Toowoomba, and I’ve got 16 horses in work now.”

Richardson contemplated sending Tinkerbella to Townsville for her first start in the Pallarenda Stakes in Townsville last month.

Instead, he started her at Doomben where she finished a close fourth to the Liam Birchley-trained Betterlucknexttime on October 26.

“It was a good run when she led and got taken on in front at Doomben,” Richardson said.

“Liam’s winner looks to be pretty good and my filly went into the race a little underdone after she had a couple of setbacks before the race which is one reason why we didn’t go to Townsville.

“She was only beaten two lengths.”

Richardson is confident the Rockhampton trip will be worthwhile with Tinkerbella who won an 860 metre barrier trial at Gatton before making her debut.

“She had an unofficial jump-out and went quite good and then won the trial at Gatton before she debuted at Doomben,” Richardson said.

Richardson is looking for his second win in the Breeders Plate after Tinkerbella’s half-sister Princess Marian was successful three years ago.

Her half-brother Sherwood Prince was beaten in a bob of the head finish by the Les Ross-trained Mishani Trouble the previous year.

Richardson’s wife Hannah Richardson will partner Tinkerbella and he’s confident the daughter of Invader will be highly competitive.
