Gary Clem is hopeful enigmatic sprinter Jamesatelli will be on his best behaviour at Bundaberg on Saturday as the hobby trainer overcomes the loss of his former stable star King Klaus.
King Klaus, who developed a cult following throughout his 38-start career for Clem, was retired after finishing third at Nanango in the middle of December.
However, he later died suddenly following his retirement at Tolga on the Atherton Tablelands in North Queensland.
“He went up to retire at a property of one of his owners at Tolga when he was struck down with colic and died,” Clem said.
“It was a real shock and I’m devastated.”
