GENERAL
As the mounting yard remained wet after recent rain received at the Blackall track, horses were only paraded for a minimal time until the jockeys could be mounted up as only half of the mounting yard area was able to be used. When the jockeys were mounted, the horses and riders were permitted to proceed to the barriers to reduce the possibility of incidents occurring in the reduced space in the mounting yard.
Race 1: ELDERS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP BM55. 1050 Metres
MISTREY EMPEROR – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey C Taylor reported that in his opinion, the gelding will benefit from the fitness gained from today’s performance.
BRILLIANT MELODY – Began awkwardly and bumped OUR GOLDEN CHERUB on jumping. Shifted in approaching the 200m before being corrected by its rider and continued to lay in under pressure down the home straight. Apprentice C Stuart reported that BRILLIANT MELODY was inclined to lay in for the majority of the event.
CUSHY (NZ) – Blundered on jumping and as a result, the gelding became unbalanced and was slow into stride.
PENMAN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
OUR GOLDEN CHERUB - Bumped on jumping. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
MOUNT MARGARET – Slow to begin.
Race 2 ELDERS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP BM55 1050 Metres
ZA HIDDEN DRAGON - Began awkwardly.
HARCH ROAD - Bumped on jumping.
PALAZZO SPIRIT - Inclined to lay in in the early stages of the event.
TAKERU – Weakened from the 700m. A post-race Veterinary inspection of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BEST SIDE – Raced wide throughout.
FREDDIE EDDIE – Began awkwardly and shifted out losing ground and as a result raced wide throughout the event. Jockey T Banks reported that after the gelding began awkwardly, he was inclined to hang out for the majority of the event and as a result raced wide.
YEMEAN - Began awkwardly and lost ground.
POTESTAS - Began awkwardly and bumped HARCH ROAD. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
VALIANT JOAN – Shifted wider passing the 500m to avoid the heels of the weakening TAKERU.
Race 3:FRAME RURAL AGENCIES OPEN HANDICAP 1050 Metres
KALASHNIKOV – Inclined to lay in in the early stages of the event. Laid in rounding the home turn and brushed DEEP BREATH which laid out. Raced wide throughout.
DEEP BREATH – Slow to begin. Laid out under pressure rounding the home turn and brushed KALASHNIKOV which laid in.
BURDEN – Failed to respond to hard riding in the early stages and lost ground. Tailed the field before improving over the last 400m of the event.
SOOPAT – Inclined to lay in under pressure down the home straight.
VICI – Weakened from the 400m. Trainer D Rewald reported that in his opinion the gelding which was resuming from a long spell will benefit from the fitness gained from today’s performance. A post-race Veterinary inspection of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.
MUSIC AWARD – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages and had to be straightened by its rider.
Race 4: GDL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE Mdn1200 Metres
FULL OF EURO - Inclined to lay in in the early stages of the event and when under pressure passing the 200m.
MR CASINO – Slow to begin. Jockey C Taylor reported that in his opinion, the gelding will benefit from the fitness gained from today’s performance.
HOWSE – Raced wide in the early stages of the event. Raced greenly down the home straight.
HENNY PENNY – Slow to begin. Jockey J Rudd reported that the filly dipped on several occasions and in his opinion, HENNY PENNY was not suited by todays racing surface.
Race 5: RAY WHITE RURAL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP BM60 1200 Metres
OAKFIELD TARGET – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
CRAZY RUSSIAN – Approaching the 180m, shifted in to avoid the heels of OAKFIELD TARGET.
BITTERSWEET PLUCK – Began awkwardly making contact with the offside barrier gate and as a result was slow to begin and raced wide throughout.
SPILL THE DIAMONDS – Shifted in entering the home straight to obtain clear running.
TOO MUCH CLASS – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
Race 6: NUTRIEN WESTERN OPEN HANDICAP 1400 Metres
STAMPEDE WARRIOR – Laid in under pressure down the home straight.
GOLDEELUCK – Began awkwardly.
VICTORY BAY (NZ) – Stood flat footed when the start was affected and lost significant ground. Trainer B Johnson was advised that VICTORY BAY (NZ) would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again.
Race 7: BLAA QTIS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP BM60 1400 Metres
BENDOLIRRA – Declared a late scratching at 10.57am when Trainer B Johnson advised Stewards that the gelding became cast in the float on route to Blackall resulting in BENDOLIRRA receiving minor lacerations and was subsequently unloaded. Trainer B Johnson was advised that BENDOLIRRA would require a Veterinary certificate before racing or trialling again.
TIME TO TESTIFY - Raced wide for the majority of the event.
HIT 'EM UP – Laid in under pressure from the 100m.
LASCO -Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
