GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 2. C. Spry +0.5kg
Race 4. T. Chambers +1.0kg
Race 4. F. Edwards +2.0kg
The race program was delayed as a result of a motor accident causing significant delays to participants arriving on course, with the amended start times as follows:
Race 1 – 2:15pm
Race 2 – 2:50pm
Race 3 – 3:25pm
Race 4 – 4:00pm
Race 5 – 4:35pm
Race 1: VERIS QTIS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1000M
COLLOMBATTI – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
PERFECT QUALITY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start due to having not raced for an extended period. Hampered at the 600 metres when PARA PARK CHANGE shifted in when not clear.
AOLANI – Bounded in the air on jumping and lost ground. Raced greenly over the concluding stages. When questioned on the performance, jockey C. Ramsbotham stated that the instructions were to ride the mare where comfortable given the wide barrier drawn. Jockey Ramsbotham stated further that the mare finished the race off well and would derive benefit from today’s event.
PARA PARK CHANCE – Shifted in on jumping tightening CARVETI. Shifted in passing the 600 metres when not clear hampering PERFECT QUALITY. Jockey P. Hamblin was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) due to shifting in when not sufficiently clear.
SUPREME PRINCE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start due to having not raced for an extended period. Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Raced wide throughout.
MAMA’S MAN – Shifted out on jumping tightening CARVETI. Raced wide throughout.
SHEEZ MARVRELLOUS – Was declared a late scratching at 1:30pm due to no rider being available.
CARVETI – Due to no other rider being available, apprentice jockey G. Semmens rode the mare +6.0kg overweight. Tightened between runners on jumping. Raced greenly over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a hamstring strain in the left hind leg. Trainer D. Amos was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to next racing.
Race 2: PILCHER’S CONCRETE Maiden Plate 1000M
COLTMAN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start due to having not raced for an extended period. Bumped with SNEAKY FREDDY on jumping. Over-raced when leading throughout.
KOITAKI SUNDAY – Slow to begin then severely checked when MARVIN ROCKET shifted out abruptly, losing considerable ground. Finished distanced from the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
MARVIN ROCKET – Shifted out abruptly at the start severely hampering KOITAKI SUNDAY which was taken out onto SPEC OF SILVER. Hung out rounding the final turn.
SPEC OF SILVER – Hampered after the start.
TOHUKU – Began very awkwardly and ran inward.
COMBAT MEDIC – Began very awkwardly. Raced greenly over the concluding stages.
SNEAKY FREDDY – Bumped with COLTMAN on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
MYSTERIOUS BAY – Fractious behind the barriers and proved difficult to load. Trainer P. Cullen was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s barrier manners.
Race 3: FILBY’S MOTORS BENCHMARK 45 Handicap 1280M
The start was delayed to allow apprentice Jockey C. Ramsbotham to change to a different coloured cap aboard ADMIRAL ASH.
FERGYLISCIOUS – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the middle stages.
CHUCKA DUMMY – Shortly after the start CHUCKA DUMMY commenced to buck, losing considerable ground and effectively all chance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer J. Hatfield was advised that CHUCKA DUMMY would need to trial or jumpout satisfactorily prior to next racing.
SKREATCH – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
ADMIRAL ASH – Began very awkwardly and lost considerable ground, then raced greenly shortly after. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised a warning was issued on the gelding’s barrier manners.
MISS SHALAA – Laid in over the concluding stages.
RED HOT LOVE – On returning to scale, jockey M. Abe reported that his saddle shifted shortly after the start placing RED HOT LOVE at a disadvantage.
RUPERT’S BOY – Slow into stride. Laid in over the concluding stages.
Race 4: HILLERY GROUP OPEN Handicap 1280M
BERING SEA – Slow into stride.
OCEAN EMPEROR – Raced three-wide without cover throughout.
REAL KEY – Was declared a late scratching at 3:10pm on veterinary advice due to sustaining an injury while being transported to the meeting. Trainer M. Cochrane was advised REAL KEY would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
FOCUS – Was eased out of the event by rider C. Jokic passing the 400 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding have sustained a suspensory injury. Trainer A. Molino advised that the gelding would now be retired, nonetheless a veterinary clearance would be required should the gelding be recommissioned as a racing proposition.
GOLDEN ATHENA – Slow into stride.
COOLMEANS (NZ) – Laid in over the concluding stages.
Race 5: NORTHERN RURAL GROUP BRACELET BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1400M
VENTURE OCEAN (IRE) – Laid in over the concluding stages.
DEEL WITH ME – Momentarily raced in restricted room passing the 150 metres. Inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.
BROMES – Upon retuning to scale, Jockey C. McIver stated that the gelding got its tongue over the bit.
KEFALONIA – Raced greenly under pressure over the concluding stages.
