Sunday 2 March 2025, Due to maintenance issues in the 1500 metre chute races 1 and 6 were amended to be run over 1400 metres. This was advertised via media outlets.
Race 1: LADBROKES FORM GENIUS MAIDEN PLATE – 1400 Metres
SECRET ENCRYPTION – Slow to begin. Rider G. Semmens reported to stewards on returning to scale that her left elbow contacted the barrier gate on jumping. Ms Semmens declined medical attention.
CLOUD EIGHT– Slow to begin. Hampered leaving the 200 metres and shifted wider.
DIAMOND DEGREE – Raced greenly when placed under pressure near the 200 metres and shifted out hampering CLOUD EIGHT leaving the 200 metres before being corrected.
Race 2: ELITE SECURITY PERSONNEL MAIDEN PLATE – 950 Metres
THE KAMIKAZE (NZ) – Stood flat-footed and lost considerable ground. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. Trainer L. McCormack was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.
POWER SHOW – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
MISHANI DELTA – Tailed off. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised the filly’s nomination would be refused at TAB meetings until it improves by way of country meetings. LR 25.
Race 3: CORAL COAST CATERING MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1250 Meters
COACHMAN – As the gelding had not competed for an extended period it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Fractious during its preliminary and dislodged jockey R. Wiggins. Jockey Wiggins declared himself free of injury other than minor soreness to his right heel. Over-raced early stages.
ASAMBE – The start was delayed a considerable time when the gelding shied near the 1500 metres during its preliminary dislodging jockey A. Thomson. After being caught and cantering a short distance ASAMBE again become loose and after cantering a considerable distance was declared a late scratching at 2.03pm. All monies invested on ASAMBE were ordered to be refunded. Jockey A. Thomson declared herself free of any injury. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 2.03pm:
21 cents in the dollar for the win SHIHO
19 cents in the dollar for the place of winner SHIHO
25 cents in the dollar for 2nd place PARVULUS
23 cents in the dollar for 3rd place LADY DE VEGA
CHARM TELLER – Turned its head to the right as the start was effected and lost ground.
JAAKUNA – Shifted in at the start bumping PARVULUS.
PARVULUS – Bumped shortly after the start and was unbalanced and slow into stride. Crowded for room near the 50 metres. Raced wide for the majority.
SHIHO – Over-raced early and middle stages. Shifted in slightly under pressure near the 50 metres crowding PARVULUS
LADY DE VEGA – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
Race 4: UNDERWOOD PARTY HIRE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1250 Metres
CALDANTE – Fractious in barriers prior to the start.
STADIUM OF LIGHT (NZ) – Bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.
I'LLTELLYOUSO – Over-raced in the early stages and had a tendency lay out.
Race 5: LADBROKES MATES MODE POTS QTIS CLASS 6 PLATE – 950 Metres
OVERLORD – Tightened for room near the 950 metres and shifted in forcing runners on its inside inwards.
HARROW (IRE) – Tightened for room near the 950 metres and forced inwards inside the line of the running rail and was restrained. Tightened for room near the 750 metres and was restrained. Again, tightened for room near the 500 metres and was restrained and lost ground.
DIAMATTI – Tightened for room near the 950 metres and was restrained. Tightened for room near the 750 metres and was restrained losing its rightful running.
SPIRIT MEISTER – Shifted in under riding near the 950 metres tightening runners to its inside. Jockey N. Day pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 131(a) in that he shifted in when not clear of OVERLORD which was taken in resulting DIAMATTI and HARROW having to be restrained. Jockey Day’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days. Stewards deemed this incident in the low range. Shifted in near the 750 metres when not clear of DIAMATTI, which was restrained and shifted in inconveniencing HARROW. In this incident DIAMATTI lost its rightful running. Jockey Day pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 131(a) and his license to ride in races was suspended for 12 days. Stewards deemed this incident mid-range. Shifted in near the 500 metres inconveniencing HARROW which was restrained and lost ground. Jockey Day pleaded guilty under AR 131(a) and his license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days. Stewards deemed this incident in the low range. Stewards ordered that all suspensions be served concurrently with his license suspended for 12 days to commence midnight tonight 3/03/2025 and expire midnight 15/03/2025. Jockey Day was advised of his right of appeal. A post-race veterinary examination of SPIRIT MEISTER revealed no abnormalities.
COUNTER COMMAND – A post-race veterinary examination of COUNTER COMMAND identified the presence of blood in both nostrils. COUNTER COMMAND shall not without the permission of the Stewards: (a) for a period of 2 months after the attack of bleeding, be trained, exercised or galloped on a racecourse, recognized training track, private training establishment, or other place; (b) start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after: i. a gallop of at least 1,000 metres; or ii. an official trial or jump-out; in the presence, and to the satisfaction of a Steward.AR79(4).
Race 6: RED BERET HOTEL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1400 Metres
POLITICAL POWER – Slow to begin.
SHE'S REWARDING – Over-raced in the early stages. Unable to obtain clear running in the home straight and went to the line without being fully tested.
LORD POWER – Momentarily steadied near the 900 metres when place in restricted room.
KOITAKI SUNDAY – Shifted in when improving forward near the 900 metres placing LORD POWER and CALL ME HILTON in restricted room. Jockey A. Thompson was advised to show greater care and be fully clear when shifting ground.
CALL ME HILTON – Momentarily steadied near the 900 metres when place in restricted room. Jockey C. Meehan was cautioned in regard to his whip action above the shoulder.
NINE CARATS – Raced wide for the majority.
Race 7: GLOBAL HIRE & SERVICE BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1250 Metres
WITNESS ATTACK – Slow to begin. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a respiratory disorder. Co-Trainer T. Rowe advised consideration would be given to WITNESS ATTACK being retired from racing. Mr. Rowe was further advised that should circumstances change a veterinary clearance with the results of an endoscopic examination be provided prior to the gelding racing or trialing again.
FLYING ARTIST – Restrained near the 900 metres when racing ungenerously.
LADY OF FORTUNE – Shifted out bumping BETTA AL on a number of occasions approaching the 900 metres.
BETTA AL – Bumped on a number of occasions approaching the 900 metres and in turn shifted out bumping ELLIE’S DREAM.
OVER THE FALLS – Restrained from heels near the 900 metres. Raced wide for the majority.
FIVE BULLS – Restrained near the 900 metres when making the turn awkwardly and the pace of the race momentarily slowed. Raced keenly for a short distance thereafter.
ELLIE'S DREAM – Bumped on a number of occasions approaching the 900 metres and shifted out being awkwardly placed at the heels of LUCKY JIM which shifted in marginally. Over-raced for some distance thereafter.
LUCKY JIM – Shifted in marginally near the 900 metres crowding ELLIE’S DREAM which was forced outwards. Lost its off fore plate during running.
MISSISSIPPI ALIBI – Awkwardly placed at heels near the 900 metres, was restrained and shifted out hampering OVER THE FALLS. Raced ungenerously for a short distance thereafter.
Race 8: HIGGINS COATINGS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP – 950 Metres
Correct weight was delayed allowing stewards to view the start of the race to ascertain whether all horses were afforded a fair start. Jockey J. Taylor (TARGETED) R. Wiggins (CATALINA DREAMING) and Co-Trainer P. Rowe (TARGETED) were interviewed and were of the opinion that some horses had anticipated the start. After hearing evidence from official starter Mr. B. Brady who stated that the start had been effected without incident with all runners being afforded a fair start. Although the patrol footage showed that some runners may have anticipated the start, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that any horse had been materially disadvantaged as all barriers had clearly opened simultaneously and as such all runners were deemed starters.
TARGETED – Slow into stride.
AIRBORNE HOTDOG – Slow to begin. Restrained off heels near the 700 metres.
CATALINA DREAMING – Shifted in near the 200 metres bumping BRING ME TO LIFE.
BRING ME TO LIFE (NZ) – Bumped near the 200 metres.
MAKANUI – Shifted ground shortly after the start bumping with TRAVELLING SWEET.
TRAVELLING SWEET – Shifted ground shortly after the start bumping with MAKANUI. Raced wide for the majority.
LITTLE LOVER – Raced wide rounding the home-turn.
