Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 2, No. 9 LADY ZAYDI – H Richardson - +0.5kg (56kg)
When Apprentice C. Sutherland was unable to ride at the meeting due to personal reasons, Stewards permitted changes as per the Stewards’ race-day summary.
Apprentice J. Busuttin was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR143(14)(a) for being unable to claim her full allowance and subsequently being required to be replaced on her engagements in Races 2 and 10. In assessing the matter, Stewards noted her recent record in relation to the rule.
Race 1: BMO BUSINESS CENTRE QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000m)
KING OF GERALDINE – Crowded between runners soon after the start. Laid in for some distance passing the 900m when racing keenly.
TROOPER SAM – Began awkwardly and steadied off heels soon after the start. Raced keenly in the early stages.
TAYLOR'S RAGE – Began awkwardly
ITALIAN GIRL – Began awkwardly. Carried wider approaching the 400m when SWEET POPPY shifted out to avoid heels. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
OH PRETTY EMMA – Began awkwardly before being bumped soon after the start. Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted in when not full clear of SWEET POPPY near the 400m, which was obliged to steady and shift out, carrying ITALIAN GIRL wider. Jockey M. Wishart was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Laid out approaching the 400m despite the efforts of its rider.
SWEET POPPY – Approaching the 400m steadied and shifted wider to avoid the heels of OH PRETTY EMMA which shifted in.
BRAVE JET – Began awkwardly and bumped soon after the start. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
Race 2: CRITERION HOTEL DALBY MAIDEN PLATE (1000m)
COSTA CATORI – Trainer D. Corbett advised Stewards that it would be in her instructions to not use the whip on the gelding, as in her opinion, the gelding resented it. This was advertised by way of on-course announcement and social media address. Began awkwardly and bumped. Approaching the 400m bumped with SHE’S MY LADY.
TROUBLEATKINGSFORD – Fractious behind the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 11:57am. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, all monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 11:57am:
1 cent in the dollar for first place
8 cents in the place for first place
7 cents in the dollar for second place
6 cents in the dollar for third place
As the subsequent veterinary examination revealed a heart murmur, Trainer R. Watts was advised that the gelding would require a cardiologist examination inclusive of an echocardiogram prior to completing a satisfactory 1000m gallop before racing again.
PLEA – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced awkwardly on heels of COSTA CATORI over the concluding stages.
I SURVIVED – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
MAGICAL EYE – Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
SUZI QUATROSE – When Apprentice J. Busuttin was unable to claim her full allowance, Stewards permitted Apprentice J. Metcalfe to be declared the replacement rider. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CROATIAN QUEEN – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Approaching the 50m shifted out abruptly off heels to obtain clear running.
LADY ZAYDI – As Jockey J. Lloyd was overweight, Stewards permitted Jockey H. Richardson to be declared the rider replacement. Jockey Lloyd was subsequently fined $200 under the provisions of AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Approaching the 400m bumped with COSTA CATORI.
SHE'S MY LADY – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 400m bumped with COSTA CATORI.
ALZURRI – Began awkwardly.
Race 3: D&ND JOCKEY CLUB MAIDEN PLATE (1000m)
MY SICADA – Began awkwardly and crowded soon after the start. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. When questioned, Jockey J. Molloy stated that after beginning well from an outside barrier, he elected to stride forward and subsequently obtained a more forward position than may have been expected on this occasion.
TOWERS HILL – Raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the 800m laid out for some distance.
COLONEL PARKER – Began awkwardly.
JONDY GRACIE – Approaching the 600m shifted out when not fully clear of SAPANA’S PEARL which was steadied and shifted out to avoid heels. Jockey H. Richardson was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Bumped the inside running rail near the 400m.
SAPANA'S PEARL – Steadied near the 600m to avoid the heels of JONDY GRACIE. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
TWOPENCE – Began awkwardly.
SHADES OF SUMMER – Arrived late on course due to transport difficulties. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination inclusive of blood samples and was cleared to start. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
TELEKI – Raced keenly in the early stages. Blundered passing the 800m. Commence to weaken from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer M. Gavin was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.
Race 4: GREENAWAY PLUMBING & GAS 0 - 55 HANDICAP (1000m)
ALBION SQUARE (GB) Began awkwardly. Approaching the 600m bumped with MISTER SELFIE. Bumped again near the 500m. Carried wider over the concluding stages when MISTER MIYAGI laid out.
MISTER SELFIE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Approaching the 600m bumped with ALBION SQUARE. Bumped again near 500m. Bumped with MISTER MIYAGI approaching the 200m.
MASTER MIYAGI – Bumped with MISTER SELFIE approaching the 200m. Shifted out when not fully clear of ONE SMART COOKIE leaving the 200m which in turn was carried out and bumped. Jockey K. Yoshida was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Laid out over the concluding stages carrying ALBION SQUARE wider.
RUNAROUND SUE – Began awkwardly and bumped soon after the start.
STELLER EAGLE – Crowded and bumped soon after the start and lost ground. When questioned, Jockey J. Huxtable stated that the mare felt uncomfortable in its action throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying an upper respiratory noise. Trainer M. Currie was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of an endoscopic examination prior to racing again.
KEITANY – Began awkwardly. Bumped soon after the start.
ONE SMART COOKIE – Steadied and bumped near the 200m. When questioned, Jockey C. Taylor stated the mare travelled well until the 400m, however proved disappointing under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a slow recovery. Trainer M. Gavin was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s record for the poor performance.
SHE'S PUSHY – Bumped shortly after the start.
BASIL'S GIFT – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Bumped near the 200m.
QUARTER RED – Began awkwardly.
Race 5: WESTERN DOWNS MARINE & CANVAS 0 - 55 HANDICAP (1000m)
CHISUM – Crowded between runners soon after the start.
ALLEZIZZY – Bumped soon after the start. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Jockey J Huxtable reported the mare was inclined to hang-out throughout the event.
SO EXTRA – Approaching the 150m shifted in when not fully clear of ALONTRO, which was obliged to steady. Apprentice K Lenton was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
BOOGA RAY – Laid-out rounding the home-turn and under pressure in the home straight.
BRAIDWOOD QUEEN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having raced at Gympie on Saturday, 5 April 2025 and cleared to start. Began awkwardly and bumped with ALLEZIZZY. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice J. Busuttin stated the mare may not have appreciated the quick back-up, and further added in her opinion, was not suited to the softer track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and minor lacerations to the hindlegs.
ARTOPIA – Crowded shortly after the start and bumped. Raced keen early.
TOSSIT – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
SEEBURG – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
Race 6: DALBY DRY CLEANERS & LAUNDERERS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1200m)
MAMARAGAN – Slow into stride. Approaching the 600m approved onto heels and had to be steadied.
XERRI – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
ADALIE – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Momentarily raced in restricted room approaching the 1000m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
HUSS ON FIRST – Momentarily raced in restricted room approaching the 1000m.
NO GOING BACK – Proved very reluctant to proceed to the start. Trainer T. Pascoe was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record for its pre-race behaviour. Began very awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
DREAM LANTERN – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly on heels for some distance approaching the 1000m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
PHYSICIST – When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, Jockey N. Fazackerley stated the gelding proved disappointing, however in his opinion would be better suited over further distances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
GRANNY'S REWARD – Began awkwardly and bumped ADALIE. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
AFFINITY FLYER – Began very awkwardly and bumped. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
BELLA BABE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
Race 7: LADBROKES RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP (1400m)
FLASH ZARIZ – Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BELLE'S BOY – Jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin. Passing the 600m made contact with the inside running rail. Commenced to weaken from the 400m and was eased down in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Molloy advised the gelding failed to travel throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed cardiac arrythmia for the first occasion. Trainer G. Richardson was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of an ECG prior to completing a satisfactory 1000m gallop before racing again.
HIGH SECURITY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted in off heels to obtain clear running near the 100m. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.
PRETTY LITTLE LASS – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
VANCITY – Crowded between runners shortly after the start. Passing the 400m improved onto heels of the weakening BELLE’S BOY and was obliged to shift wider to obtain clear running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
SWIFT SON – Began awkwardly. Passing the 600m brushed the inside running rail.
LINDA'S MAGIC – Began awkwardly.
MILAGRO – When questioned in relation to his vigor in the home straight, Apprentice B. Wheeler stated leaving the 200m, whilst marginally improving, he was conscious of runners in advanced of his mount shifting ground, and therefore was conscious of the manner in which he pressured his mount, when being mindful that he may become awkwardly placed on heels. He added however when obtaining clear running presented near the 100m, his mount only let down fairly. Stewards accepted the explanation of Apprentice Wheeler, however reminded him of obligations under AR131(b), that where possible, to ride his mounts out fully to the finish.
Race 8: SUNDOWN SIGNS 0 - 55 HANDICAP (1400m)
AZUKI – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
PARUES – Raced keenly in the early stages. When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, Jockey S. Collett advised that the gelding was better suited when able to obtain a leading position without receiving pressure from another runner as it had done so on this occasion. She further added that the overall performance of the gelding was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
GAELIC THUNDER – Began awkwardly.
REACHOVER – Slow begin.
BUN IN THE OVEN – Over-raced in the early stages.
NEWMARKET MISS – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight for clear running. Became awkwardly placed on heels near the 300m when AZUKI laid in.
MARTINI DANCER – Laid in for some distance passing the 900m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
PAMPUNI – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
MY TURN ASTERN – Kicked behind the barriers by another runner, underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3:34pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, all monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 3:34pm:
0 cents in the dollar for first place
2 cents in the place for first place
5 cents in the dollar for second place
8 cents in the dollar for third place
A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities, and therefore no further action was taken on the gelding.
Race 9: G.J. GARDNER HOMES DALBY & CHINCHILLA BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1400m)
Declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing the connections of second place to view the photo finish for first. After viewing the official photo, Jockey B. Wheeler and Trainer R. Lipp were satisfied a margin was present, and Stewards subsequently declared correct weight on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.
KNEZE – Began awkwardly.
CHASING JACKLEY – Jockey J. Lloyd pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), in that approaching the 1100m, he did permit his mount to shift in when not fully clear of HOLY FLASH, which was dictated inwards into the line of AL ASH LAD, which was obliged to restrain when losing its rightful running. Jockey Lloyd’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days, commencing Wednesday, 9 April 2025, and to conclude Saturday, 19 April 2025 on which day he may ride. In assessing the matter, Stewards considered the degree of interference and carelessness, Jockey Lloyd’s guilty plea and record in relation to the rule. Jockey Lloyd was advised of his rights to an appeal.

AL ASH LAD – Raced keenly in the early stages. Steadied near the 1100m when HOLY FLASH was directed inwards by CHASING JACKLEY. Over-raced for some distance thereafter.
EXECUTIVE STRESS - Began awkwardly.
HOLY FLASH – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Dictated inwards for some distance near the 1100m when CHASING JACKLEY shifted in. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SHOUTS ALL DAY – Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced keenly in the early stages.
PINTURA ROSA (FR) – Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 10: DALBY CABS CLASS 3 HANDICAP (2000m)
SHAKE'N'BAKE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Toowoomba on Saturday, 5 April 2025 and was cleared to start. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Steadied and carried inwards near the 1800m when THE MANIPULATOR shifted in. Steadied and crowded inwards onto TAVIESLASS near the 800m when BIPLA MOREA shifted in when not fully clear.
THE MANIPULATOR – Slow into stride. Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted in when not fully clear of SHAKE’N’BAKE near the 1800m which in turn was carried inwards onto LUNA DIVA which was obliged to steady. Jockey M. Savva was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Commenced to lose ground from the 600m and finished tailed off. Trainer L. Gersekowski was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for the poor performance.
BILPA MOREA (NZ) – Raced wide from the 1000m. Shifted in when not fully clear of SHAKE’N’BAKE near the 800m, which was tightened for room onto TAVIESLASS. Jockey M. Wishart was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
TAVIESLASS (NZ) - Slow into stride. Raced keenly in the early stages. Carried wider for some distance passing the 1600m when LUNA DIVA shifted out. Crowded and bumped near the 800m when SHAKE’N’BAKE was carried inwards.
LUNA DIVA – Began awkwardly. Steadied near the 1800m when SHAKE’N’BAKE was carried inwards. Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted out near the 1600m when racing keenly and carried TAVIESLASS wider for some distance. Commenced to lose ground from the 600m and finished tailed off. Trainer P. Kalinowski was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s record for the poor performance.
BUDDY'S TALE – As Apprentice J. Busuttin was unable to claim her full allowance, Stewards permitted Apprentice K. Lenton to be declared the replacement rider. Apprentice Lenton was given permission to claim 0.5kg of her 1.5kg allowance given the late notice. Raced keenly in the early stages. Over-raced for some distance passing the 1600m and steadied off heels.
