SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Gold Coast 11th April 2025, Race 4: THE PACIFIC WEST BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1000M:
 
ZUETORO – Trainer J. Bruce reported the gelding pulled up well and was the opinion that the it didn’t handle the shifty track surface. He added that he would be continuing with its preparation and would look to running the gelding on a good track at its next start.
 
GENERAL
 
As jockey M. Rodd was injured, he was replaced as per the Stewards summary. Jockey M. Rodd was advised that he requires a medical clearance prior to next riding.
 
Prior to the running of race 1, the track was downgraded to a soft 7 at 11:17am.
 
Race 1: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1110M

Prior to the running of this race, jockey N. Beriman was kicked in the mounting enclosure, she was assessed by the club doctor and cleared to fulfil her engagement.
 
CUDDLES FOR KIMMY – Began awkwardly.  
 
GET READY LASS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
STRENUOUS – Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester advised his mount raced greenly and never traveled comfortably. He added that when TA LA MASCA improved to its outside near the 400m, the gelding shied, shifted in and contacted the running rail and from this point onwards he eased the gelding down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Wilson was advised that the gelding would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
 
TA LA MASCA – Slow to begin.   
 
DRAGONNE ROUGE – Bumped on jumping. Near the 900m, steadied to avoid the heels of CUDDLES FOR KIMMY (M. Du Plessis) which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey M. Du Plessis was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
GEITZ – Bumped on jumping. Passing the 1000m, steadied to avoid the heels of CUDDLES FOR KIMMY (M. Du Plessis) which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey M. Du Plessis was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Shortly thereafter, over raced for some distance. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Following the running of this race, Jockey N. Beriman was again assessed by the club doctor and stood down from her remaining engagements. Jockey N. Beriman was advised that she would require a medical clearance prior to next riding.

Race 2: BRC MEMBERSHIP BENCHMARK 80 HANDICAP 2200M

DOUBLE CHERRY (IRE) – Apprentice T. Fenlon was reminded of her obligations under AR131(b) to ride her mount out to the finish line.
 
YET HE MOVES – Over raced in the middle stages and passing the 700m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of SCARLET PRINCE. Held up for clear running from the 600m until approaching the 300m.
 
ARIZONA DREAMING – Jockey D. Thornton reported his mount didn’t appreciate todays track conditions.
 
ROLLER COASTER (NZ) – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey A. Mallyon advised his mount didn’t travel comfortably throughout the event and in his opinion didn’t appreciate todays racing surface.
 
SCARLET PRINCE – Jockey B. Thornton reported his mount felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer J. Smerdon was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing.
 
AIDEN – Held up for clear running from the 600m until approaching the 300m.
 
SO YOU ARE – On the winning post, bumped by PHILIPSBURG (W. Costin) which shifted in under pressure. Jockey W. Costin was advised to stop riding and straighten her mounts in similar circumstances.
 
PHILIPSBURG (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Passing the 2100m, for a considerable distance raced in restricted room to the inside of SO YOU ARE. Obliged to alter course near the 200m. Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages and bumped SO YOU ARE.

Race 3: PRECISION GROUP BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1615M

NOBLE CONQUEROR – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
VIVENZO – Raced wide throughout. Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 300m.
 
JUMEIRAH BEACH – Improved onto heels near the 700m and was steadied. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
SPILL THE SECRET – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from entering the home straight until near the 150m.
 
SHE'S GOT VEUVE – Began awkwardly and then bumped. Near the 700m, improved onto the heels of KAIHOKO and shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Following the running of race 3, the meeting went into an indefinite delay due to lightening and heavy rain in the vicinity. Following an inspection of the track, Stewards downgraded the surface to a heavy 10 at 1:57pm. Following a further delay, Stewards conducted a further track inspection which revealed surface water, and with Stewards being of the opinion that the racing surface was no longer safe to proceed, and with continued lightening in the area, the remainder of the meeting was postponed at 2:10pm.
