GENERAL
As Jockey T. Brooker was ill, rider changes were made as per the race day summary. Jockey T. Brooker was advised that a medical clearance would be required prior to riding again.
As Jockey R. Wiggins was ill, rider changes were made as per the race day summary. Jockey R. Wiggins was advised that a medical clearance would be required prior to riding again.
Jockey J. Huxtable was examined by the club doctor prior to Race 1 and was cleared to fulfill his riding engagements.
Race 1: BECOME A BRC MEMBER MAIDEN PLATE 2060 M
The start of this event was delayed slightly owing to MARGOT STAR having to have its tongue tie refitted behind the barriers.
FIRE AND LIGHT – Shifted out at the start and bumped STATE OF AFFAIRS. When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, Jockey C. Graham reported that in her opinion, FIRE AND LIGHT may not have appreciated todays racing surface. Trainer W. Kropp concurred with comments and advised he would continue with the gelding’s current preparation.
OUT OF LUCK – Tightened shortly after the start. Bumped near the 450m by IN SOCIETY when that runner was steadied and shifted out.
STATE OF AFFAIRS – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that STATE OF AFFAIRS would attempt to settle more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Bumped at the start. Commenced to race keenly leaving the 1300m, shifted out and raced 3 wide with cover from that point.
BOLERO – Began awkwardly and bumped with CUBANS CROWN. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
CONVO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight obliging its rider to stop and straighten her mount near the 250m. Continued to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
IN SOCIETY – Raced in restricted room and had to be steadied near the 450m when FIRE AND LIGHT shifted out slightly to improve. Jockey C. Graham the rider of FIRE AND LIGHT was advised to show greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Raced wide throughout.
FLAMING GENESIS – Held up rounding the home turn. Near the 300m became awkwardly placed on the heels of the tiring CUBANS CROWN.
MARGOT'S STAR – Shifted in shortly after the start and bumped with OUT OF LUCK. Laid in near the 600m and contacted the running rail. Near the 300m became awkwardly placed on the heels of the tiring CROC FIGHT.
CUBANS CROWN– Bumped at the start.
Race 2: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB MAIDEN HANDICAP 1350 M
STARSONUS – Raced wide throughout. Inconvenienced and carried wider approaching the 100m when FIRST MAN shifted out under pressure.
FIRST MAN – Approaching the 1000m, was inconvenienced and had to be steadied from the heels of SAMMAAN CITY which was taken in by SIBEILA. Jockey A. Thompson the rider of SIBEILA was reprimanded under AR 131(a) and was advised to show greater care when shifting ground. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
KOOJAN (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
NATIONAL INTEREST – Jockey D. Thornton was fined $200 under AR 131(b) for failing to ride his mount out over the final stages of the event. Stewards were comfortably satisfied that the actions of Jockey D. Thornton did not cost NATIONAL INTERST 5th place.
ROTATE – Began awkwardly and bumped with SUNNY DISPOSITION and as a result lost ground.
SUNNY DISPOSITION – Began awkwardly and bumped with ROTATE. Inconvenienced and carried wider approaching the 100m when FIRST MAN shifted out under pressure. When asked to comment on the improved performance, Trainer D. Bell stated that at its previous start at Toowoomba, the mare did not handle the heavy track. He further added, that with the addition of a tongue tie, he was confident of an improved performance today on a better racing surface than its previous start.
BOROGORU – Raced wide from the 800m. Inconvenienced and carried wider approaching the 100m when FIRST MAN shifted out under pressure.
RIPPINGTON - Connections advised of a change of tactics in that RIPPINGTON would attempt to settle more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Over-raced in the early stages.
SAMMAAN CITY - Connections advised of a change of tactics in that SAMMAAN CITY would be ridden more positively in the early stages. Ridden accordingly.
MALOTRU – Raced wide throughout.
DONI TONDO - Raced keenly near the 800m.
Race 3: XXXX SIDELINE BEER GARDEN 3 MAY QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1110 M
QUARRY MAN (NZ) – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, Jockey N. Callow stated that the gelding over-raced and his opinion did not appreciate todays track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer K. Schweida advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
TIDAL POINT – Began awkwardly. Over-raced approaching the 700m and had to be steadied.
EGYPTIAN GODDESS – Stood flat footed as the start was effected. Laid out rounding the home turn. Leaving the 300m, shifted out and had to be corrected by its rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying respiratory noises and an eye injury which was treated on course by the industry veterinarian. Trainer R. Tyrell was advised that a veterinary certificate and the results of an endoscope would be required prior to racing again. He was also advised that a warning would now be placed on the filly in regard to it standing flat footed.
SHORTCUT – Began awkwardly.
Race 4: LADBROKES CALCUTTA & LUNCHEON 13 JUNE BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1660 M
EXPRESS PAYMENT – Raced wide until approaching the 1200m.
FIRST INNINGS (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
GENETIC FREAK – Began awkwardly and bumped SMART AS SMART. Raced wide until approaching the 1200m.
TEXAS FIREBALL – Bumped with FEATHERTOP (GB) shortly after the start. Jockey A. Mallyon reported that it was not his intention to settle in such a forward position, however after beginning well and no pace being shown by inside runners, he elected to take up a forward position with cover.
FEATHERTOP (GB) – Bumped with TEXAS FIREBALL shortly after the start. Hung in rounding the home turn. Near the 300m became awkwardly placed at the heels of TEXAS FIREBALL.
SMART AS SMART – Bumped at the start. Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 250m.
KIRIKAN (NZ) – Held up at the entrance to home straight until leaving the 300m. Jockey R. Maloney was fined $300 under AR 131(b) for failing to ride his mount out over the final stages of the event. Stewards were comfortably satisfied that the actions did not cost KIRIKAN (NZ) 4th place.
STEP ON FIRE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
Race 5: STRADBROKE SEASON BOOK NOW QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1200 M
BOLD ARTIC – Over-raced in the early stages. Leaving the 700m improved onto heels and shifted out.
SOCRAZYINLOVE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Laid in under pressure approaching the 100m and had to be corrected by its rider.
SHAMADAN – Bumped at the start.
BENGAL DIAMOND – Hampered and lost ground at the start when SOCRAZYINLOVE shifted out as AQUATIER shifted in. Raced fiercely in the early stages whilst being restrained. Apprentice E. Lang was severely reprimanded under AR 131(b) for failing to ride her mount out over the concluding stages. Trainer A. Campton reported that it was his intention to experiment with the BENGAL DIAMOND’s gear to attempt to assist the filly with in settling next start.
VIALE – Began awkwardly. Forced wider near the 700m when BOLD ARTIC shifted out.
AQUATIER – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Lost its off-fore plate.
BOOMING BIANCA – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SHAMADAN.
Race 6: XXXX CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 M
PRE EMINENCE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Held up rounding the home turn. Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post and brushed the running rail when taken in by SIMPLY EXCELS which shifted in under pressure. Jockey R. Maloney rider of SIMPLY EXCELS was advised to stop and straighten his mounts sooner than he did in similar circumstances.
KING POTTER – Jockey J. Guthman-Chester reported at scale that the gelding travelled well until the home turn and when placed under pressure then failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of the thumps and a slow recovery.
MAIKROW - Near the 900m commenced to over-race and shifted wider to avoid the heels of GALLERY MASTER. When asked to comment on the performance of MAIKROW, Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported that the gelding was obliged to race wide and, in his opinion, did not appreciate todays track conditions.
WOOSH KA BOOM – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Approaching the 100m, had to be momentarily steadied from the heels of SIMPLY EXCELS, which shifted in. Jockey R. Maloney the rider of SIMPLY EXCELS was severely reprimanded under AR 131(a). Lost its near hind plate.
DAZZLING DIAMOND – Began awkwardly. Forced wider near the 900m. Apprentice C. Collis was severely reprimanded under AR 131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the finish line.
IMMORTALITY – Inconvenienced at the start by WOOSH KA BOOM which shifted out.
ROCK HARD LOVE – Hampered at the start by PRE EMINENCE which shifted out. Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained.
DIVINE GEM – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
GALLERY MASTER – Began awkwardly. Near the 900m commenced to race keenly and was inclined to lay out.
Race 7: SKY RACING CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1200 M
EMPEROR – Commenced to over-race leaving the 900m and shifted out to avoid the heels of OUTWEIGHED. Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 200m.
TOWN CRIER – Shifted out at the start and bumped BOHEMIAN LAD. Brushed the running rail rounding the home turn. Disappointed for a run near the 250m when CERTAINLYCAN shifted in and was obliged to alter course to the outside near the 200m to secure clear running.
BOHEMIAN LAD – Bumped at the start.
JOHN RAMBO – Laid in approaching the 200m.
CERTAINLYCAN – Raced wide until the 800m.
PARTY SPIRIT – Forced wider near the 800m when EMPEROR shifted out when over-racing. Laid in approaching the 200m.
LUTON HOO (NZ) – Put its head down as the start was being effected resulting in Jockey M. Du Plessis becoming severely unbalanced in the saddle and being dislodged a short distance after the start. Jockey M. Du Plessis was examined by QAS officials and transferred to hospital for further assessment. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D. Vandyke was advised that LUTON HOO (NZ) would require a trial or jump out to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
Race 8: LADBROKES COMMUNITIES BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1350 M
CHIEF WITNESS – Raced wide for the majority.
ANAVINCI – Over-raced in the middle stages.
BOYS NIGHT OUT – Held up rounding the home turn.
CENTRE BOUNCE – Slow into stride.
HALLSIDE MARTINI – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
SPEED MAP – Bumped by CINQUE TERRE which shifted out under pressure approaching the winning post. Jockey J. Huxtable the rider of CINQUE TERRE was advised to stop and straighten his mounts in similar circumstances.
CINQUE TERRE – Shifted out under pressure approaching the winning post and bumped with SPEED MAP.
BETTER BE NORDY – Slow to begin. Leaving the 800m shifted wider to improve. When asked to comment on the performance of BETTER BE NORDY, Jockey N. Callow reported that the gelding was disappointing and failed to run on when placed under pressure, and in his opinion may be better suited with a step up in distance.
LUMENS LENNY – Over-raced in the middle stages.
TRAPEDO – Carried wider leaving the 800m by BETTER BE NORDY, which shifted out to improve. When asked to comment on the performance of TRAPEDO, Jockey C. Graham reported that in her opinion the mare did not appreciate today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
TREASURER – Over-raced leaving the 800m. Held up from the 300m until approaching the 200m.
MOOTESSA – Raced wide.
