Race 1: WESTGATE SEEDS MAIDEN PLATE 1000m
LEICA HARLEY- Declared a late scratching at 1:34pm after refusing to load. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all monies invested on the gelding to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 1:34pm:
9cents in the dollar for the win
10cents in the dollar for the place.
Trainers representative J Sims was advised the gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
ICEY- Shifted in under pressure near the 50m momentarily hampering POLLYANNA’S BEST and GLUTTONY. App K Lenton was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
GLUTONY- Momentarily hampered near the 50m.
POLLYANNA’S BEST- Momentarily hampered near the 50m.
Race 2: PRECISION AERIAL CLASS B HANDICAP 1000m
MASTER MIYAGI- Began awkwardly and bumped soon after.
CAVAL HEIRO- Bumped soon after the start. Momentarily raced in restricted room near the 600m. App K Lenton advised that, in her opinion, the gelding is better suited when able to obtain a position with cover.
SUTHERLAND- Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
ALMOST EVEN- Raced wide throughout.
Race 3: THE FLINTON COMMITTEE QTIS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1000m
INATICK- Jockey Fazackerleys foot slipped in his off-side iron on jumping, placing him at a slight disadvantage until it was adjusted soon after. Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped.
SHUT EYE- Bumped on jumping.
DARK SKIES- Buffeted on jumping. When asked to comment on the performance Jockey K Yoshida advised that his mount had resented the sand racing surface in its most recent outing and returning to a firmed surface he had expected an improved showing. Trainer A Park concurred with Jockey Yoshida’s assessment adding that the step up in distance was also a contributing factor. Jockey K Yoshida was reminded of his obligations pursuant to AR131(b) to fully test his mounts to the line.
RUM DIARY- Shifted out and bumped on jumping.
MISS DE BLAAS- Bumped on jumping. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
UCHI- Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
Race 4: O’TOOLE TRANSPORT FLINTON CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1200m
PESHWA- Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in near the 800m. Trainer Representative K Zahmel advised that, in his opinion, the weight differential and the fast early pace were telling factors in the finish.
ZAIDIN- Bumped on jumping before becoming awkwardly placed on heels and being momentarily steadied.
LITTLE SHOW- Bumped on jumping. App J Metcalfe advised that, in her opinion, the gelding resented the kickback in running.
FLANK SPEED- Bumped on jumping.
SUPER DUCK- Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure down the running.
Race 5: CONDABRI BEEF BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1200m
RUMI STAR- Bumped on jumping. Shifted out near the 1100m when not fully clear of RUM REVOLUTION. App S Callow was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident. Laid in near the 800m.
BIRAGUE- Bumped on jumping. Raced ungenerously in the early stages, laying out and taking RUM REVOLUTON wider near the 900m. Continued to layout thereafter.
RUM REVOLUTION- Bumped soon after jumping. Obliged to steady form heels near the 1100m. Taken wider by another runner near the 900m.
SENSE OF HUMOUR- Bumped on jumping.
RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS- Raced wide throughout.
WHITE CHOCOLATE- Raced wide throughout.
FLASH ZARIZ- Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages before being corrected by its rider.
EASY COME- Tired form the 400m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 6: WESTERN DOWNS REGIONAL COUNCIL BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1200m
HELL ON BABY- Began very awkwardly, was slow into stride and lost considerable ground. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
COTTON CAPER- Laid in near the 800m. Raced wide for the majority. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a laceration to the near-hind cannon consistent with being galloped on in running which required treatment. Trainer S Mcewan was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
MR GORMAN- Laid out near the 1000m before shifting back in approaching the 900m when not fully clear of TETCHY which was obliged to restrain. Jockey K Yoshida was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident. In considering the matter Stewards noted the racing manners of TETCHY which was racing keenly leading into the incident which exacerbated the interference somewhat.
STRUTAN LAD- Raced wide for the majority.
TETCHY- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Obliged to restrain from heels near the 900m.
