GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting:
 
Race 5 – SHAPIN POWER – A. Thompson +0.5kg (54.5kg)
Race 8 – SAILOR’S SECRET – J. Taylor +1kg (55kg)
 
Race 1: PORTERS LIQUOR QTIS Two-Years-Old Maiden Plate 1100M
 
CAT CALL – Began awkwardly. Lost the offside winker near the 500m.
 
PARADING GUS – Near the 900m, steadied when tightened to the inside of GAIRLOCH which was taken in by CAT CALL (J. Williams) which shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice J. Williams was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
TURBO TORQUE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CLOSE TO THE EDGE – Bumped at the start and then steadied shortly after from the heels of CAT CALL.
 
MISHA QUEEN – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped CLOSE TO THE EDGE. Near the 900m, steadied when racing tight to the inside of ELODIE’S RAINDOW (C. Vitler) which shifted in marginally. Apprentice C. Vitler was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
Race 2: IGA LIQUOR QTIS Three-Years-Old BM65 Handicap 1200M
EXPLOSIVE POWER (NZ) – Declared a late scratching at 11.30am, when Trainer A. Chau reported the horse was lame in the off foreleg. Trainer A. Chau was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
 
CHOSEN LEGEND – Began awkwardly. Near the 200m was obliged to alter course and shift out to secure clear running.
 
SPIRIT FOX – Raced wide without cover throughout. Near the 500m, bumped with VACILLATION.
 
VACILLATION – Near the 500m, bumped with SPIRIT FOX. Jockey A. Thompson was reminded of his obligations under AR132(6)(b) when raising his whip arm above shoulder height.
 
PLATINUM GIFT – Began awkwardly.
 
SIDLED – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 3: CLUB PARTNERS Maiden Plate 1200M
BEAUTY EIGHT (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
SCUTI – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Near the 250m, momentarily steadied from the heels of MAGICAL EYE and again near the 100m was steadied from that runner’s heels.
 
OUR ESPRIT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MARATHIA – Jockey M. Wishart pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, 18 in totality. Jockey M. Wishart’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 29th April 2025 and to expire midnight 8th May 2025. Following the running of this race, Jockey M. Wishart reported that her mount stood on her left foot when unsaddling in the enclosure.
Race 4: THE BOTTLE-O Maiden Plate 1540M 
The start of this race was delayed whenPHOENIX STORM proved difficult leave the mounting enclosure, rearing up on several occasions and dislodging apprentice R. Thorburn before galloping riderless for a short distance before being captured. Subsequently, the gelding was declared a late scratching at 2.11pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on PHOENIX STORM be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply.
 
1st place – GREEN MEADOWS – 3c win, 4c place
2nd place – MAD ANA – 4c place
3rd place – SPACE JOURNEY – 4c place
Trainer K. Deacon was advised that the gelding would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
BRASS BAND – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
HE IS THE KISS – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Lerena advised the gelding is better suited to tracks with more give in them and would be suited racing over a shorter distance than that of today’s.
 
JO JO ZIP – Bumped at the start. Eased out of the race by its rider passing the 1000m. An immediate veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained injuries to both fore tendons. Trainer R. O’Connor was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance, inclusive of ultrasound images of both fore tendons before being required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
 
SPACE JOURNEY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
SUMICH – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover from the 1200m.
 
AMAHNI’S GIRL – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
MAD ANA – Leaving the 800m, improved onto the heels of TIMES ELEVEN and was steadied.
 
TIMES ELEVEN – Bumped at the start. Eased down by the rider on the entrance to the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer R. Warzecha was advised that the filly would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to next racing.
Race 5: CELLARBRATIONS Class 4 Handicap 1540M
FISTSOFFURY – Began awkwardly.
 
HULKAMANIA – Raced wide from the 800m. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, Apprentice C. Sutherland explained that although the gelding races in a forward position, with the expected fast speed in the race, he was asked to be neutral leaving the gates and settle where comfortable. He said HULKAMANIA was slow into stride and settled towards the rear of the field but was racing keenly. He advised that near the 1200m, he attempted to settle the gelding, but it got its head up on several occasions and for this reason it lost its position. Apprentice Sutherland added that he commenced his run from the 600m, and the gelding ran home well. Stewards noted his comments.
 
AWAYGOESTHEBUNNY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
DUNLOE – Slow to begin. Laid out leaving the 500m.
 
SHAPIN POWER – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
GREGARIOUS – Raced wide in the early stages before striding forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 900m.
 
MYGIRLGLADYS – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Jockey J. Murphy reported that the mare resented racing in the kickback. 
Race 6: AUSTRALIAN LIQUOR MARKETERS BM55 Handicap 1540M 
WONFORWAZZA – Near the 1300m, hung out and then raced wide until leaving the 800m. Trainer M. Morrison was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
 
DON’T BE DRAMATIC – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
GRAND CRUSADER – Began awkwardly and bumped KAIWI. Raced keenly in the middle stages and shifted to race in three-wide position from leaving the 900m.
 
SYNERGY IN MOTION – Jockey J. Huxtable reported that the gelding became worked up behind the barriers pre-race which he believes had a detrimental effect on its overall performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
JUSTICE SERVED – Jockey A. Thompson reported the gelding did not handle today’s synthetic track. Trainer R. Dart advised Stewards that he does not intend on accepting JUSTICE SERVED to race on poly tracks at its future starts.
 
KAIWI – Bumped at the start.
 
BIE’RES – Near the 300m, raced in restricted room and was eased.
Race 7: THIRSTY CAMEL BM65 Handicap 2000M 
SINGER SARGENT – Slow to begin. Near the 1400m, improved onto the heels of CRIMSON SPIRIT and was steadied. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
FORUM ONE – Slow to begin and then tightened for room between RED MILE and THE CLAIMANT which shifted out, resulting in Jockey N. Tomizawa becoming unbalanced. Laid out near the 500m.
 
CRIMSON SPIRIT – Near the 1800m, steadied when racing tight to the inside of BACKLIT BEAUTY.
 
PULPIT – Near the 1800m, steadied from the heels of BIAS (L. Dempsey) which shifted in when not clear. Jockey L. Dempsey was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
Following the running of this race, Jockey A. Thompson was assessed by the QAS officials after striking his right foot on the barriers and was subsequently stood down from his remaining engagement. Jockey A. Thompson was advised that he would require a medical clearance prior to next riding.
Race 8: HOLLINDALE STAKES DAY MAY 10 BOOK NOW OPEN Handicap 1200M 
LADY SHOTGUN – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
 
RHYTHM IS A DANCER – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
I AM VOODOO – As there was no other suitable rider available, Stewards permitted apprentice C. Sutherland to replace Jockey A. Thompson as the rider of the gelding and ride below his minimum riding weight. Knuckled on jumping.
 
SISTINE EXPLORER – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout.
 
VIADELAMORE (IRE) – Began awkwardly.
 
SILVER WARRIOR – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lacerations to its off hindleg, consistent with being galloped on. Trainer A. Campton was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
