GENERAL
As jockey T. Marshall was not riding for acceptable reasons, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Raceday Summary.
Stewards inquired into the reasons as to why co-trainers T. Edmonds & P. McLean failed to scratch O’CALDINO from race 2 by the prescribed time. After considering the evidence tendered by co-trainer T. Edmonds, Stewards intend to investigate the matter with Racing Australia.
Race 1: TAB MAIDEN PLATE 800 Metres
RED TOFFEE – Began awkwardly. Near the 600m, momentarily inconvenienced. Raced greenly in the home straight.
DARE TO LOVE – Began awkwardly. Near the 600m, momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of OVERTERN which shifted in. Rider M. Kennedy, rider of OVERTERN, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Apprentice R. Thorburn reported he contacted his right shoulder on leaving the barriers. Apprentice R. Thorburn pled guilty to a charge pursuant to AR131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the finish line and was fined $300.
OVERTERN – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
RUPEEZY – Began awkwardly.
THRILL SEEKER – A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer K. Devine was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).
VENEMEX – Had a tendency to lay out throughout.
Race 2: GORDON'S GIN MAIDEN PLATE 1690 Metres
Prior to the running of race 2, the track was downgraded to a Heavy (8).
SAVEA – Inconvenienced shortly after the start when tightened by ZOU BIG BOY (R. Maloney) before being corrected by its rider. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
TANGO BRAVO – Underwent a resaddle on arrival at the barriers. Slow to begin. Raced keenly during the early stages.
VISCOUNT SYDNEY – Slow to begin.
FOREVER FORTUNE – Laid out rounding the home turn and when under pressure in the home straight.
REEL GRACEFUL – Began awkwardly.
THE MESSIAH – As apprentice J. Williams was unable to make the weight, he was replaced by jockey J. Bayliss. Apprentice Williams was fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
Following the running of this race, the track was downgraded to a Heavy (10) due to a deluge of rain just prior to the start. Prior to the running of race 3, Stewards and a delegation of riders inspected the track surface and found it unsuitable for racing due to significant surface water in the home straight. The remainder of the meeting was called off at 1.44pm.
