Race 1: GOLDEN SHORES RETIREMENT LIFESTYLE COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP            1200 Metres

MAJESTICS REQUEST – Hampered shortly after the start and lost position. Held up for clear running from the 200m until near the 100m. When questioned regarding her ride and the tactics adopted, apprentice S. Champkin reported that her instructions were to settle where comfortable, however after receiving interference at the start, and losing ground apprentice Champkin stated her visibility was reduced due to a heavy shower hitting the racecourse prior to the race and she had not realized the margin between herself to the second last horse before electing to ride her mount along. Rider further added that after making up ground when approaching the home turn she elected to stay to the inside and ride for luck to save ground as oppose to coming very wide rounding the home turn. Stewards further questioned apprentice Champkin on her riding in the home straight when a run was available to the inside of LION’S PRIDE. Rider further explained that when she took a run to the inside of LION’S PRIDE she was of the opinion her mount was not travelling well enough to establish the run and was mindful that LION’S PRIDE was showing a tendency to lay in. After considering the evidence tendered by apprentice Champkin and factoring her riding experience and conditions Stewards noted her comments.
