GET WHAT YOU GIVE – Bumped with BORS after the start. Jockey A Butler advised that he was satisfied to lead, however was unable to obtain sufficient respite once TRICKY BEANS settled to his outside near the 1300m which resulted in his own mount then over racing. Jockey Butler further stated that he was of the view that had GET WHAT YOU GIVE been able to dictate its own terms it may have finished the race off in a more competitive manner, however regardless of this the horse proved to be disappointing and may not have run out the 1600m truly. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BORS – Shifted in at the start and bumped with GET WHAT YOU GIVE.
TRICKY BEANS – Raced wide early before obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1300m. Commenced to tire near the 400m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards questioned apprentice G Semmens in relation to the tactics adopted and in particular her decision to race on or close to equal terms with the leader from the 1300m. Miss Semmens explained that she was instructed to lead and after riding with vigor in the early stages she identified that she would be unable to obtain the desired position and therefore raced outside the leader without further pressuring her mount. Trainer R Williams confirmed the instructions given to apprentice Semmens and further advised that in the past TRICKY BEANS has always performed best when leading. The trainer further added that TIRCKY BEANS was racing second up from a spell racing over 1600m and attributed this to the gelding tiring over the final 400m. When assessing the matter and considering the statements of the trainer and rider, stewards did not feel the tactics adopted were so unreasonable to amount to culpability at a level which should result in a charge being issued. Both parties were reminded to ensure that pre-conceived tactics should allow for flexibility dependent on circumstances.
YUBETIDO – Hung in noticeably under pressure in the home straight.
CRAIGLEA LA VIE – Jockey Tasha Chambers pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to her mount on 11 occasions prior to the 100m and 15 occasions in total.
