GENERAL
Trainer Mr B Johnson and Ms M Gavin were unable to attend today’s meeting due to flooding. Stewards accepted and noted the trainers explanations. Stewards permitted the following weight variations for this meeting- Race 6- Jky J Baker- +.5kg, Jky N Fazackerley- +.5kg.
Stewards spoke with Trainer Mr R Hay for his late declaration of a rider/s on Race 2- GREEN Park and Race 5- SUNFALL. Mr Hay advised that it was his intention to take the horses to another venue and as that meeting was abandoned, he elected to run them here on short notice. Stewards accepted Mr Hay’s explanation and took no further action. Stewards also spoke with Trainer Mr W Baker regarding his late declaration of riders at today’s meeting. Mr Baker advised that he had notified Stewards prior to Jockey Declaration time and was having difficulty in obtaining riders. Stewards noted Mr Baker’s explanation and took no further action in relation to the matter.
Race 1: ELIZABETH FERRIER MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 900M
KEEZAP- Raced wide with cover during the middle stages of the event. Laid in for a short distance in the home straight ran on well over the final stages of the event.
VILLADEN- Bumped with another runner shortly after the start.
INVAHIR- Bumped with PERMANENCE shortly after the start. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
KUDU- Laid in after entering the home straight for a short distance before being corrected by the rider.
UCHI- Bumped with SAVVY SONG after the start and raced handy for the majority, weakened out of the race from the 500m point.
PERMANENCE- Bumped with another runner shortly after the start was effected.
THARGOMINDAH- Bumped with VILLADEN after the start. Raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event despite the rider’s best efforts to improve into the race. Due to the seemingly disappointing performance of the horse Stewards ordered that a post-race veterinary examination be undertaken. This examination failed to locate any abnormalities. Stewards spoke with Trainer Mr W Pugsley who advised that this was the mare’s first run for his stable and felt she wasn’t suited by the track conditions and resented the kick back today. Stewards noted Mr Pugsley’s comments.
TATTLE-Slow to begin. Raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event.
SAVVY SONG- Jky N Fazackerley advised Stewards that he was unable to make the allocated weight of 56kg on the horse. After consultation with Trainer Mr W Baker and noting Jky Fazackerley’s explanation Steward’s replaced Jky Fazackerley with Appr Jky H Saunders. Bumped at the start with UCHI.
Race 2 STATHAM CHEESMAN BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1000M
AREYA TUCHUZY- After beginning fairly raced at the rear of the field for some distance before improving into the race from the 500m point ran on strongly over the final stages of the event while racing wide.
LUMINOUS WATERS- Appr Jky J Metcalfe dropped her whip at approximately the 200m point resulting in her not being able to fully test her mount out fully to the line.
ROX’N’ROL-Trainer Mr W Baker and the race day Farrier advised Stewards that due to the mares’ temperament they were unable to put rear plates on the back feet. Mr Baker sought permission by Stewards to allow her to go around at today’s meeting bare back. Stewards acting under the provision of AR107(2) permitted the horse to race without rear shoes at this meeting. Tended to hang out for the majority of the event. Jky Fazackerley was dislodged by the horse at the pull up area when the mare baulked at an object outside the track. Jky Fazackerley was treated by QAS for a minor injury to his right knee and passed fit to continue riding at today’s meeting.
Race 3: HALL CHADWICK BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200M
OAKFIELD TARGET- Raced wide for the majority.
TERAMBI- Raced wide for the majority.
BAG OF WHITT- Began awkwardly making contact with the barrier partition on jumping.
TIME TO TESTIFY- Raced at the rear of the field for the majority.
FIRE UP BRUCE- Under the advice from the Starter Ms J Harvey Stewards ordered that FIRE UP BRUCE be declared a late scratching at 2.53pm due to refusing to be loaded. Stewards then ordered that all monies invested on the gelding be refunded in full less the following deductions to be applied- Winner- ROCKY RICH- 0c, PL-3c, 2nd placing- TERAMBI-6c and 3rd placing- BAG OF WHITT- 5c. Stewards spoke with Starter Ms J Harvey, Trainer Mr W Baker and Jockey J Baker viewed the films leading up to the late scratching and acting under the provision of AR 75(b) ordered that a Warning be placed on the horse.
BUGDEN- Trainer Mr W Pugsley advised Stewards that due to transport issues BUGDEN would need to be declared a L/Scr. Stewards accepted Mr Pugsley’s explanation declared the gelding a late scratching at 9.30am. No deductions applied.
READY MADE- Raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. On returning to scale Jky C Taylor reported to stewards that his saddle had slipped in running preventing him from testing his mount out fully from the 500m point.
Race 4: MORGANS MAZARS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
KANSAS SUN- Raced wide for the majority of the event.
MUMMIFICATION- Slow to begin then raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event despite the riders best efforts to improve into the race.
STELLA ROSA- Raced wide and towards the rear of the field for the majority of the event.
Race 5: JOHN FRITH MEMORIAL SILVER BRACELET OPEN HANDICAP 1200M
ART BY CONCORDE- Raced wide with cover during the majority of the event, improved into the race from the 400m point and ran on strongly over the final stages.
OFFICE JIM- Improved into the race from the 400m and finished the race off well over the final stages of the event.
BASARWA-Slow to begin and raced at the rear of the field for the majority.
LEGEND OF ZORRO- Raced wide for the majority.
MAMARAGAN- Raced wide for the majority.
Race 6: CLUB HOTEL ROMA BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1640M
BORS- At approximately the 1400m point elected to shift out when not fully clear. As a result Stewards acting under the provision of AR131(a) issued a reprimand to Appr Jky C Stuart for careless riding. Appr Jky C Stuart was dislodged from his mount at the pull up area as a result of the horse baulking at an object near the outside rail. Appr Jky Stuart didn’t require QAS to provide treatment.
SAINT MARTIN- Raced wide for the majority of the event.
VICTORY BEANS- Raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event.
LEGISLATE- Forced to take hold when leaving the 1400m point as a result of the rider of BORS allowing his mount to shift out when not fully clear.
