GENERAL

Stewards permitted the following overweight:
 
Race 7: M. Rodd +0.5kg
 
Co-trainers C & C Munce were fined $200 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare riders for OBEROI PRINCESS in Race 3 and Race 4 THE PLAYER by the prescribed.
 
Trainer R. Dart was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider for WATERMELON by the prescribed time.
 
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer J. Edwards for the late scratching of MALTALI engaged in race 4.
 
Race 1: QUEMCO GUTTER GUARD MAIDEN PLATE         2200 M

BRIEF SPIRIT – Raced three wide until the 1300m.
 
ZALATORIS (NZ) – Eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed swelling of the off fore tendon. Trainer B. Robinson was advised the gelding would not be permitted to start in a race or trial until a veterinary clearance is provided and a satisfactory stewards trial is completed.
 
MISS DYNAMO – Raced three wide from the 1000m.
 
 
Race 2: EQUINE SOLUTIONS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M

SHUBMAN – Raced greenly throughout. Approaching the 600m was reluctant to hold its position between runners and lost ground. Trainer B. Gill was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of the gelding.
 
TEN GOOD REASONS (NZ) – Reared as the start was affected and lost significant ground. Trainer G. Duncan was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding. Raced greenly throughout.
 
BOOGIE FEVER – Began awkwardly. Inconvenienced approaching the 600m.
 
FLASH DRIVE – Raced three wide the majority.
 
STYLISH ANGEL – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 3: CRUISE MAROOCHY BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP         1200 M

ROMAN DAGGER (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
BILLY'S BRO – Held up for clear running from the 400m to the 200m.
 
PYROIS – Stewards permitted the gelding to race without a bit-lifter which was part of the advertised gear. Trainer L. Freedman was reprimanded pursuant to AR 106(2).
 
LONE FORCE – Momentarily inconvenienced whilst weakening approaching the 150m.
 
Race 4: WYLIE DALZIEL RACING CLASS 2 HANDICAP         1400 M

MORE TROUBLE (NZ) – Laid out in the early stages of the event. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
MR CALEB – Raced in restricted room approaching the 800m. Held up from the 400m until approaching the 150m.
 
THE PLAYER – Raced three wide throughout. Fell shortly after passing the winning post. Stewards took evidence from all riders in the event other than Vlad Duric, who had been transported to hospital for further assessment, before adjourning to a date and time to be determined to allow evidence to be taken from jockey Duric. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a fracture to the offside shoulder and the gelding was subsequently euthanized on humane grounds.
 
MOONFLEET – Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Held up rounding the home turn. Inconvenienced approaching the 150m when MR CALEB shifted in to improve.
 
OLE BAZZLE (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover.
 
MIST OF DAWN – Raced three wide throughout.
 
JULIETA – Slow to begin. Raced three for the majority.
 
Race 5: KENNARDS HIRE OPEN HANDICAP         1400 M

IRISH SONGS – Over-raced in the early stages. Raced three wide throughout.
 
POCKET FULL – Steadied from the heels of THIS’LLBETHEONE, which shifted in approaching the 1000m. T. Marshall rider of THIS’LLBETHEONE was reprimand for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
THIS'LLBETHEONE – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
THE CATCH Steadied from the heels of HOLLYWOOD NORTH, which shifted in approaching the 1000m. M. Philot rider of THIS’LLBETHEONE was reprimand for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Raced in restricted room from the 900m until the 600m.
 
SINGER SARGENT – Slow to begin.

Race 6: ALEX SURF CLUB DRUMMO MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP       1600 M

SOCK'EMSID – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.
 
MOUNT ZION – Began awkwardly. Raced wide until the 1100m.
 
POUTCHEK (GB) – Slow to begin.
 
FIREBOLT – Slow to begin. Approaching the 200m improve onto the heels of SOCK’EMSID and was obliged to alter course. Rider M. Rodd reported that his mount would appreciate a step up in distance.
 
PENDING – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
 
Race 7: IN CURTAINS BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP         2200 M

GRIPPING – Improved onto heels approaching the 1200m and shifted wider.
 
LIKEABEEL – Raced in restricted approaching the 1200m.
 
IBERIAN RULER (NZ) – Raced in restricted approaching the 1200m. Eased down in the home straight and failed to finish the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer representative T. Pollard was advised a veterinary clearance inclusive of an endoscopic report must be provided and a satisfactory stewards trial is completed prior to being permitted to race again.
 
WATERMELON – Bumped and forced wider by TENNESSEE WHISKEY (NZ) approaching the 1300m.
 
CHATEAUX PARK (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
MONTGOMERY – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Improved onto heels approaching the 1000m and shifted wider. Cast its near hind plate during the event. Rider B. Wheeler reported the gelding travelled well until placed under pressure in the home straight where it failed to respond and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer J Thompson reported to stewards that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
 
TENNESSEE WHISKEY (NZ) – Shifted out approaching the 1300m and bumped WATERMELON.
 
BRYNNER (NZ) – Bumped at the start.
 
GULF OF SAROS – Shifted three wide approaching the 1300m.
 
MAJESTIC ANGEL (NZ) – Began awkwardly.

Race 8: CREATIVE STONE CLASS 3 HANDICAP         1000 M

KING YOSHI – Raced three wide throughout. Approaching the 600m shifted in and bumped BOLD AND SMOOTH.
 
RUBY CHICKS – Held up from the home turn until the 200m. Rider N. Beriman dropped her whip approaching the 100m.
 
BOLD AND SMOOTH – Raced in restricted room from the 800m until approaching the 600m. Over raced in the early stages.
 
MISS GABBIANO – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
