Race 1: MARTIN COLLINS AUSTRALIA QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD COLTS AND GELDINGS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M
WILIAMTHECONQUEROR – Lost off-fore plate in running.
BILLY BOOM – Overraced and hung out in the early and middle stages. Raced 3-wide in the early and middle stages.
CLAW MACHINE – Trainer B. Healy reported post-race that the gelding pulled up lame in the near-fore leg. Mr. Healy was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary certificate for the gelding prior to its next race start.
STARWARD – Rider N. Beriman reported that the gelding did not run out a strong 1200m.
TICKLE MY TOSEN – Slow to Begin. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
Race 2: TENSENS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD FILLIES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M
TECHNA – Became fractious in the enclosure and made contact with the enclosure fence, as a result underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Trainer C. Munce was advised that the horse has received a warning for pre-race manners.
FROTHSAY – Began awkwardly.
KOUKLITSA – Laid in from the 500m onwards and placed its rider at a disadvantage in the home straight.
MISSABEAT – Overraced when leading during the middle stages.
Race 3: COAST2COAST EARTHMOVING QTIS THREE & FOUR YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1600 M
EXPRESS PAYMENT – Laid in under pressure from approaching the 300m onwards.
GIFTED GAMER – When asked to comment on the performance, rider C. Sutherland expressed his disappointment on the overall performance, adding that the horse was under pressure from the 600m and weakened in the home straight, however could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
TYPHOON TIP – Began awkwardly.
LIKE SMOKE – Overraced in the early stages. Rider M. Rodd reported that the gelding laid in upon entering the home straight.
THUNDER SHANGHAI – After commencing to weaken from the 700m, a post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer B. Everingham advised the mare would now be sent for a spell.
Race 4: SUNSHINE SHEDS & GARAGES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 M
The start of the race was delayed by approximately 4 minutes to allow for EIGHTDAYSAWEEK to be reshod upon arrival at the barriers after being found to have lost its near-fore plate.
MOANA NUI (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
HERLIHY – Raced 3-wide in the early and middle stages.
ZOULAR – Hung out under pressure in the home straight.
TAKIN'HELL – Overraced in the early stages.
DESERT LEGEND – Forced 3-wide near the 700m and raced 3-wide from that point onwards.
EIGHTDAYSAWEEK – Upon arrival at the barriers, was found to have lost its near-fore plate and was reshod prior to the race.
THE PROPHECY – When asked to comment on the improved performance, trainer M. Butler advised that the steadier tempo of the race, the step up in distance, the favourable draw and weaker opposition were all factors in the improved performance of the mare. Stewards accepted the explanation.
Race 5: PELICAN MOTORS SERVICE CENTRE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 2200 M
LIKEABEEL – Inconvenienced and forced wider passing the 400m, before shifting inwards once clear of heels.
SACRED BULL (NZ) – Trainer J. Bruce advised stewards pre-race of a change of tactics that the gelding would be ridden more forward. Approaching the 100m, when held up for clear running, was directed inwards to the inside of UP AND COMER in an attempt to secure clear running when there was insufficient room, and as a result bumped heavily with FORUM ONE, clipped the heels of UP AND COMER and blundered as a result.
PLEADEEL – Slow to begin. Momentarily held up for clear running passing the 400m.
UP AND COMER – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
AUTUNNO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
FLASH PRINCE – Raced 3-wide in the early and middle stages.
FORUM ONE – Approaching the 100m, bumped heavily and forced inwards when SACRED BULL (App. J. McMurray) was directed inwards in order to secure clear running. App. J. McMurray was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
Race 6: PITCHERS HOSPITALITY SUPPLIES CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1400 M
The start of the race was delayed by approximately 5 minutes to allow for DOMINGO to be reshod upon arrival at the barriers after being found to have lost its off-fore plate. The start was further delayed to allow for a veterinary examination of MOONFLEET, which had become fractious in the barriers. MOONFLEET was then cleared to start.
DOMINGO (NZ) – Upon arrival at the barriers, was found to have lost its off-fore plate and was reshod prior to the race. When the pace slackened near the 800m, shifted out to avoid heels and raced wide from that point onwards. Bumped and forced wider near the 200m by TAUPO TIGER.
SAVANNAH GANGSTER – When held up for clear running rounding the home turn, attempted to shift to the outside of MOONFLEET and in doing so, bumped with MISS SHA BLUE and as a result was disappointed for a run and had to be steadied.
KARAOKE AL – When the pace slackened passing the 800m, was obliged to check from heels. Trainer M. Molander reported minor abrasions to the off-hind leg consistent with being galloped on.
THREE GONGS – Slow to begin. Overraced at heels approaching the 1100m. When the pace slackened passing the 800m, was obliged to check from heels. Rider dropped his whip near the 200m.
MOONFLEET – Became fractious in the barriers and bumped its head. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
ITZA MOTZA – When the pace slackened passing the 800m, was obliged to check from heels.
TAUPO TIGER – Was directed out approaching the 200m to improve, initiating contact with DOMINGO and as a result, shifted out abruptly, inconveniencing DOMINGO.
MISS SHA BLUE – Raced 3-wide in the early and middle stages. Bumped when SAVANNAH GANGSTER attempted to shift out near the 400m.
MYGIRLGLADYS – Steadied from heels approaching the 500m. Held up for clear running over the final 100m after having been obliged to ease near the 250m when TAUPO TIGER shifted out.
SPITZBERG – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
Race 7: JST WILLO INVESTMENTS FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1000 M
MAKE IT SO – Raced 3-wide early. Near the 200m, shifted in abruptly when struck with the whip, causing the rider to stop riding and straighten.
EZEIZA – Raced 4-wide early.
LITTLE MISS BELLE – Raced wide throughout.
PACIFIC PIRATE – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Improved onto heels near the 500m and shifted out, causing MOOD KILLER to be tightened for room and checked. Improved onto heels near the 150m and had to be steadied.
MILAGRO – Began awkwardly.
HALF MOON ROO – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced and steadied near the 700m when MISS HELMUT shifted out.
MISS HELMUT – Near the 700m, commenced to over-race and improved into restricted room to the inside of KWIK AZ HELL and had to be checked, and as a result, shifted out abruptly, inconveniencing HALF MOON ROO. Laid out in the middle stages.
Race 8: TAB COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1000 M
MASTERPLAN – Raced wide throughout.
GOLD FEVER – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ZUETORO – Obliged to alter course when disappointed for a run near the 150m when WISHART shifted out. Rider N. Beriman’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days pursuant to AR131(a) in that as the rider of GOLD FEVER she rode in a careless manner as over the concluding stages when GOLD FEVER commenced to shift in under pressure, she failed to make sufficient effort to stop riding and straighten before causing tightening to the runner to the inside ZUETORO (App. J. McMurray), which was forced to shift in and check to avoid the heels of GOLD FEVER. The suspension is to commence 23/03/2025 until midnight 04/04/2025.
CURRY LEGEND – App. M. Philpot reported to scale that CURRY LEGEND had blood in its mouth. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
WHISKEY AND BEER – Slow to begin.
FLUDWAY – Slow to begin. Laid in over the concluding stages, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten.
MR POLAR – Raced wide throughout.
SPICY DUCK – Rider M. Wishart reported her mount didn’t handle the soft track conditions.
OBLIVION – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have bled from both nostrils for the second time. Trainer B. Jones was advised OBLIVION will be barred from racing in Australia under AR79(6).
HARCASION – Raced ungenerously when restrained in the early stages. Laid in from the 600m until entering the home straight.
