SATAY CHICKEN (NZ)- As App D McGillivray was unavailable due to injury, Stewards permitted App O Kendall to be substituted as rider of the gelding. App McGillivray was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to again being permitted to ride in a race. Bumped on jumping. Bumped soon after the start before being steadied to obtain a position with cover nearer the inside running rail. Taken wider leaving the 300m. Stewards questioned App Kendall, in the presence of Racing Queensland Apprentice Mentor Chris Whiteley, as to the tactics adopted in the early stages of the event, particularly in permitting her mount to trail the field by several lengths. App Kendall advised instructions had been to obtain a rearward position and not unduly pressure her mount in the early stages but concurred with Stewards that by excessively restraining her mount in order to obtain cover and then by not placing her mount under some pressure in the period immediately after, that she had erred. Stewards noted the explanation and referred the matter to Mr Whiteley and the Apprentice Training Team for further tuition.
