GENERAL

Due to the abandonment of other race meetings, start times for races 4 – 7 were amended as follows;
 
Race 4- 3:27pm

Race 1: PRYDE'S EASIFEED MAIDEN PLATE         1890m

SPACE JOURNEY- Raced wide in the early stages before being restrained to obtain cover nearer the inside running rail approaching the 1600m. Bumped and taken wider for a short distance near the 1500m. Bumped near the 1000m.
 
TAKIN’ HELL- Trainer P Duncan was advised the horse would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start after being scratched on veterinary advice.
 
VISCOUNT SYDNEY- Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
ROYAL GLADIATOR- Raced keenly in the early stages. Performed below market expectations. Jockey J Huxtable advised that, in his opinion, the gelding may be better suited to events over shorter distances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a mildly slow recovery.
 
BRAVE HOSHI- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Began awkwardly and was crowded soon after. Raced keenly in the early stages, improving onto heels approaching the 1600m having to be steadied, before again improving onto heels near the 1500m and shifting wider for a short distance.  
 
MAURITA- Raced keenly near the 1600m when being restrained to obtain a position with cover. Raced keenly on heels near the 1200m. Shifted wider and bumped near the 1000m. Again, raced keenly on heels near the 800m. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
SHALZER- Slow to begin before being shifted in away form heels soon after.
 
BRAIN WAVE- Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages, shifting wider and bumping near the 1500m before being permitted to stride forward and take up a forward position nearer the inside running rail near the 1400m.
 

Race 2: LAWRENCE & HANSON CLASS 1 HANDICAP         1890m

 BURLEIGH MAGIC- Began awkwardly.
 
JENNI MOREESE- Began awkwardly and bumped heavily. Momentarily steadied form heels near the 1700m. Race keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
BONZABELTER- Began awkwardly and bumped heavily. Raced keenly on heels near the 1600m.
 
OPTIMUS MAXIMUS- Shifted in when not fully clear of JENNI MOREESE near the 1700m obliging that runner to be steadied. Jockey C Bayliss was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
SMOKIN MATCH- Began awkwardly. Momentarily steadied from heels near the 1700m. Raced wide until the 1100m. Laid out under pressure down the running having to be corrected near the 100m.
 
TOUCHOFCLASS (NZ)- Shifted in when not fully clear of SMOKIN MATCH near the 1700m obliging that runner to be steadied. App J McMurray was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident. Raced keenly in the back straight. Laid in under pressure down the running having to be corrected approaching the 100m.
 
GUTHO- Raced wide in the early stages before being urged forward from the 1700m and settling into a leading position nearer the inside running rail near the 1400m. Under pressure from the 600m. Tired from the 400m. App S Willis advised that, in her opinion, the gelding did not appreciate the short interlude between runs. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 

Race 3: RDO EQUIPMENT MAIDEN HANDICAP         1200m

TURN THE CORNER- Bumped on jumping and lost ground. Momentarily inconvenienced near the 900m.
 
MARAVILLAS- Began awkwardly and bumped. Shifted in near the 900m when insufficiently clear of WORDLY SPIRIT obliging that runner to be restrained and shifted out. Jockey J Huxtable was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident. In considering the matter Stewards noted Jockey Huxtables good record in relation to the rule as well as the severity of the interference. Laid in near the 550m.
 
JABALINA- Began awkwardly.
 
VICTORY MELODY- Connections advised it would be the intention for the gelding to be ridden with cover should circumstances permit. After beginning awkwardly and bumping was restrained to obtain a position with cover near the inside running rail toward the rear of the field. Bumped the inside running rail near the 900m. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
WORLDY SPIRIT- Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced keenly on heels near the 1000m. Obliged to restrain from heels and shift out near the 900m. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
ROIGARD- Raced keenly leaving the 1000m when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover nearer the inside running rail. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
OUR ESPRIT- Held up for clear running form a point approaching the 400m until the 250m.
 

Race 4: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP  1200m

Stewards commenced an inquiry into the reasons App J McMurray (STEPLIKA LION) became unbalanced and was dislodged near the 900m. After taking evidence from Jockey J Molloy (STANDLEE), Jockey M Wishart (SCRUFFY) & Jockey C Bayliss (VERSION), Stewards adjourned the matter to a date and time to be fixed. App McMurray was tendered to by QAS officers and transported to Toowoomba Base Hospital with a suspected concussion and other minor injuries before being discharged later in the evening. App McMurray was advised, as per the QRIC Concussion Policy, he would incur a 12day stand-down from all riding activities, after which time he would be required to produce a medical certificate clearing him of any concussion and/or concussion symptoms.
 
HE'S INVADING- Bumped on jumping. Restrained near the 900m in an effort to avoid a fallen rider.
 
HIDEYOSHI- Bumped on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages. Raced keenly near the 800m.
 
STEPLIKA LION- Began awkwardly. Dislodged its rider near the 900m.
 
LIGHTNING STRIKES- Stewards accepted the reasons tendered for the late declaration of rider on the gelding. Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure down the running, having to be corrected near the 150m.
 
POWER OF SUCCESS- Bumped near the 100m.
 
STANDLEE- Bumped on jumping. Severely tightened for room and buffeted, having to be checked near the 900m. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
TOPPED'UP- Buffeted on jumping.
 
LOVE ALPHA- Bumped on jumping. Shifted very wider near the 900m to avoid a fallen rider.
 
MAGIC VALOUR- Bumped on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
SCRUFFY- Began awkwardly. Severely tightened and obliged to check near the 900m.
 
VERSION- Bumped near the 900m. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
TENGUN ANNIE- Bumped on jumping, shifted out and bumped again. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
SNITZOND- Bumped near the 100m.
 
 
Race 5: TTC MEMBER HELLEN MORRISBY BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP       1000m

The start of the event was delayed approximately 13minutes due to delays associated with a fall in the preceding event.
 
REJOICED- Bumped on jumping. Shifted to the outside of heels to obtain clear running near the 50m.
 
HODGSON- Bumped heavily on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.
 
AKAKA FALLS- Blundered on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
FLANK SPEED- Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn. When queried regarding the performance Trainer P Wallace advised that he had expected a forward showing with the mare stepping back to a more suitable distance and please in her recent work.
 
SMILING ZAC (NZ)- Bumped and crowded on jumping. Lost a near-side winker near the 800m.
 
KING'S GOLD- Bumped on jumping.
 
AL PAL'S GAL- Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.
 
ESJAY- Laid in under pressure down the running. Raced wide for the majority. When asked to comment on the performance Trainer P Webster advised that the gelding would derive a significant fitness benefit from the run, adding further that ESJAY had pulled up well following the run. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
DISCERNING- Bumped heavily on jumping. Laid in under pressure down the running proving somewhat difficult to ride out.
 

Race 6: LASER CLINICS AUSTRALIA BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP    1000m

The start of the event was delayed approximately 3minutes due to heavy intermittent fog.
 
Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey N Tomizawa (MOOD KILLER) to view the photo finish. After viewing the official photo connections were satisfied and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.
 
SHOCK AND AWE- Bumped on jumping.
 
MISS DE BLAAS- Bumped on jumping.
 
CURRY LEGEND- Laid in near the 900m.
 
HEARTS ARE RACING- Bumped on jumping. Bumped near the 400m. Raced wide for the majority. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
ILANA THE FIRST- Bumped on jumping. Laid out near the 700m.
 
MORGANITE- Shifted out to obtain clear running and bumped near the 400m. When asked to comment on the performance Jockey A Allen advised that his mount had travelled well however, when asked for an effort on straightening was found wanting, adding that the mare may not have been suited to the deteriorating racing conditions. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
MOOD KILLER- Laid in rounding the home turn.
 

Race 7: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES CLASS 2 HANDICAP         1200m
 
FAST SAGRADO- Laid in under pressure down the running. Raced wide for the majority.
 
MALECON- Shifted in near the 800m momentarily crowding runners to the inside before being corrected. Jockey J Huxtable was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Bumped near the 500m. Raced wide for the majority. When asked to comment on the performance Trainer M Nolan advised that the gelding would derive a significant fitness benefit from the run and with a mind to stepping up to a more suitable distance as the preparation progresses expects more forward showings in the future.
 
ROTHGO- Began awkwardly.
 
TERAMBI- Began awkwardly and bumped.
 
RUBAAHY- Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. When asked to comment on the performance App S Callow advised that, in her opinion, the mare is better suited to when able to settle nearer the pace in running. Trainer K Kemp concurred with App Callow’s assessment adding that on 13th April the mare had pulled up well following the event.
 
FREEMAN- Momentarily crowded near the 800m. Shifted out to improve near the 500m and bumped.
 
BOOM BY BY- Began awkwardly and bumped before being crowded.
 
PRESS YES- Began awkwardly and bumped.
 
GAZZA'S DIAMOND- Bumped. Raced keenly near the 1000m. App K Lenton was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR131(b) in that she did fail to ride her mount out to the finish of the event. In considering the matter Stewards were of the view that App Lentons actions had not materially prejudiced her mounts opportunity to finish 3rd however, were nonetheless of the view that her vigor over the final two strides of the event fell well short of the expected standard.
 
STAR CHANCE- Momentarily crowded near the 800m.
