GENERAL

As Apprentice B. Wheeler, Jockey L. Tarrant & Jockey A. Thompson were unable to fulfil their engagements at the meetings, rider replacements were permitted as per Stewards race day summary. Apprentice Wheeler and Jockey Thompson were advised that they would require medical clearances prior to racing again.
 
 
Race 1: SHEPPARD EARTHMOVING MAIDEN PLATE (2150m)

RODEO LEGEND – Began awkwardly. Commenced to weaken from the 700m before being eased down in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice C. Baker advised that the gelding had been inclined to lay out and travelled only fairly throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 37 lengths, revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G. Barbierato was advised the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards’ prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
SAMURAI WARRIOR (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
HE'S FINESSE (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BOLERO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Doomben on Wednesday, 23 April 2025 and was cleared to start. Obliged to shift to the inside of heels to obtain clear running near the 200m.
 
BRAVE HOSHI – Raced wide and without cover until the 1600m.
 
SHALZER – After beginning well settled into a leading position before commencing to race keenly in the early stages, and subsequently settled further forward than may have been expected. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 

Race 2: WHOLESALE HORSEWEAR HOUSE QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)

BLUEY'S CHOICE – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
BRAVE JET – Crowded and bumped approaching the 1000m. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event,  
 
MISHANI MAUI – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
SUCCESSISMAGIC – Began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and lost ground.
 
TROOPER SAM – Crowded and bumped approaching the 1000m. Jockey J. Molloy was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(b) to ride his mount out fully to the finish. In assessing the matter, Stewards noted that Jockey Molloy’s actions had no tangible effect on the placings, however were of the opinion that his vigour was below the expected standard.
 
CHEEKY'S TIME – Began awkwardly. Jockey G. Cartwright reported that she had some concerns with the manner in which the filly returned to scale. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery and an upper respiratory noise. Trainer T. Sears was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.
 
DO WHAT I SAY – Began awkwardly and buffeted. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
GEITZ – Began awkwardly and bumped heavily. Raced wide until the 800m.
 
REDMISS – Began awkwardly, crowded and bumped. Obliged to steady from heels approaching the 800m.
 
SAN GIMIGNANO – Attempted to buck for some distance soon after the start and lost ground. Trainer D. Stanbridge was advised the filly would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Commenced to give ground leaving the 400m before being eased down in the home straight. Apprentice O. Kendal advised that it had been her intention to obtain a leading position, however after the filly began to buck in the early stages, she was unable to do so. She further added that the filly proved disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed cardiac arrythmia for the first occasion. Trainer D. Stanbridge was advised a veterinary clearance inclusive of an ECG would be required prior to completing a satisfactory 1000m gallop.
 
SHEMAKESMENERVOUS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Ipswich on 21 April 2025 and was cleared to start. Bumped heavily on jumping.
 

Race 3: TRACKSIDE PHOTOGRAPHY QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)

BATE – Apprentice L. O’Donnell pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding, in that leaving the 700m, she did permit her mount to shift in, tightening the running of VORKUTA and bumping that runner until a point near the 600m where the rider of that gelding was obliged to take hold and relinquish its position and lose its rightful running. Apprentice L. O’Donnell’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days, commencing Monday, 28 April 2025 and to conclude Thursday 6 May 2025. In assessing the matter, Stewards noted the degree of carelessness and interference, her good record in relation to the rule and guilty plea. Apprentice O’Donnell was advised of her rights to an appeal.
 
EXTOL – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
OF COURSE – When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice F. Sandkuhl could offer no firm explanation, however expressed disappointment with the overall performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

ACCELERATE RAPIDLY – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
HIGHLAND KITTY – Bumped on jumping. Shifted in abruptly to obtain clear running near the 100m.
 
MAYBE – Momentarily steadied near the 600m when crowded for room.
 
SCRUFFY – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
FLY MISS ARTIE – Began awkwardly. Laid in onto heels having to be momentarily steadied near the 200m. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
TINJACK – Refused to proceed to the barriers and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:56pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 1:56pm:
 
0 cents in the dollar for the win
2 cents in the dollar for the place on the winner
1 cents in the dollar for second place
2 cents in the dollar for third place
 
Trainer G. Richardson was advised the gelding would be required to trial under race-day conditions prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
VORKUTA – Began awkwardly and bumped. Tightened for room for some distance leaving the 700m, until bumping with BATE on several occasions and subsequently being restrained and losing ground.
 
TALLULAH – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels having to be momentarily steadied approaching the 900m.
 

Race 4: BLACK TRUCK & AG BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (870m)

MY ELOISE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
MY NAME IS (NZ) – Laid out rounding the home turn and bumped. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey L. Tilley advised that, in his opinion, the gelding is better suited over further distances. Trainer P. Webster concurred with Jockey Tilley’s assessment. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.   
 
MENSA MAESTRO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Trailed the field throughout the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ENFLAMED – Laid in rounding the home turn and bumped. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Wishart advised that, in her opinion, the gelding would likely derive a further fitness benefit being only second up for the preparation after returning from an extended layoff.
 
ANGELIC BOOM – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey G. Cartwright advised that, in her opinion, the strong pace of the race may have had a detrimental impact on her mount’s finishing efforts.
 
 
Race 5: COOPER COMMERCIAL CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1625m)

HIGH SECURITY – Began awkwardly before shifting out very abruptly before being corrected by its rider. Bumped again soon after the start. Jockey J. Molloy advised that his saddle slipped soon after the start placing him at a disadvantage throughout the event.
 
SWIFT SON – Began awkwardly.
 
THE MANIPULATOR – Commenced to give ground leaving the 600m before being eased down in the home straight. Jockey C. Bayliss could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 54 lengths revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer L. Gersekowski was advised that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards’ prior to racing again.
 
LINDA'S MAGIC – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
TWILIGHT SPARKLE – Eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be tying up behind. Trainer T. Gillespie was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. Mr Gillespie advised it would be his intention to have blood work taken from the mare in coming days.
 
TWO TIME GIRL – Stewards permitted Apprentice S. Callow to be declared the replacement rider when Apprentice L. Sykes was unable to claim his full allowance. Apprentice Sykes was subsequently fined $200 under the provisions of AR143(14)(a). Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers at the request of the rider and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 3:05pm when found to be lame in the off-hindleg. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the mare were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 3:05pm:

1cent in the dollar for third place
 
Trainer D. Leggatt was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
BEAN ALL OVA – Bumped soon after the start.
 
PRIDE OF SAVABELLA – Began awkwardly and was crowded.
 

Race 6: BARRIER REEF POOLS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (1200m)

REJOICED – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Momentarily steadied the 550m when THIS IS ONE shifted in. Jockey L. Tilley was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that approaching the 400m, he did direct his mount outwards contacting MASTERPLAN and subsequently forcing that runner off its line of running and onto the heels of NEW JOY, obliging that runner to be restrained and consequently losing its rightful running. Jockey Tilley’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days, commencing Monday, 5 May 2025 and up to and including Friday 16 May 2025. In assessing the matter, Stewards considered the degree of interference and carelessness, Jockey Tilley’s record in relation to the rule and not guilty plea. Jockey Tilley was advised of his rights to an appeal.
 
PICKO ROCKS – Began awkwardly and shifted out, before tailing the field throughout the early stages. When asked to comment on the performance, Trainer D. Baker advised the gelding would be better suited over further distances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
AKAKA FALLS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
SPOOKY SPIRIT – Crowded and bumped on jumping. Improved onto the heels of the weakening DEPTH CHARGE near the 400m having to be steadied and shifted wider.
 
THIS IS ONE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Shifted in near the 550m resulting in REJOICED having to momentarily steady. Jockey N. Tomizawa was advised to exercise greater care.
 
DEPTH CHARGE – Commenced to give ground near the 500m, before being eased down in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice S. Willis advised that the gelding never travelled throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer M. Currie was advised that given the poor performance, the gelding would be required to trial prior to racing again.
 
MASTERPLAN – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Contacted when REJOICED shifted out near the 400m before being forced wider onto the heels of NEW JOY having to be restrained and lost ground.
 
NEW JOY – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
DISCERNING – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 

Race 7: SELECTED SEEDS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1200m)

CONNEWARRE – Bumped for several strides near the 1000m. Shifted in momentarily passing the 400m crowding GRANNY’S REWARD in onto SADDLE BOY. Apprentice K. Lenton was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
GRANNY'S REWARD – Began awkwardly. Bumped near the 1000m for several strides. Momentarily crowded inwards by CONNEWARRE near the 400m.
 
MALECON – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CICADA – Laid in onto heels near the 200m before being corrected by its rider.
 
WORTHY ESSGEE – Restrained off the heels of JAMAICAN MECRAZY near the 800m. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
PORRISTA (NZ) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.
 
FREEMAN – Momentarily steadied off heels near the 1000m when CONNEWARRE shifted out.
 
SADDLE BOY – Began awkwardly. Laid out and bumped CONNEWARE near the 1000m. Momentarily crowded for room and eased near the 400m.
 
JAMAICAN MECRAZY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice L. O’Donnell pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding, in that near the 800m, she did permit her mount to shift in when not fully clear of WORTHY ESSGEE, which was obliged to restrain and lose its rightful running. Apprentice O’Donnell’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 days, to be served partly concurrently with the suspension incurred in Race 3, and subsequently commencing Saturday, 3 May 2025 and up to and including Thursday, 8 May 2025. In assessing the matter, Stewards noted the degree of interference and carelessness, the principles of totality, her guilty plea and apprentice status. Apprentice O’Donnell was advised of her rights to an appeal.
 
HARCASION – Late scratching at 8:01am. Trainer D. Kropp was reprimanded under the provisions of LR68(1) for failing to scratch the gelding by the prescribed time. Mr Kropp advised that the gelding had injured itself in the stable, and it had been a genuine oversight in the failure to scratch the gelding. In assessing the matter, Stewards noted that no runner had been prevented an opportunity to obtain a start. Mr Kropp was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.
