GENERAL
Following a steward’s track inspection prior to the running of Race 1, the track was upgraded to GOOD 3.
RACE 1: HUNTLY HEAVY EARTHMOVING QRIS BENCHMARK 50 Handicap (1000 METRES)
SWEET FANTASY – Bumped on jumping by CHICA HOTTIE which shifted inwards shortly after the start.
GETTING’ LIPPY – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Jumped away awkwardly and shifted outwards, bumping TSUNAMI FORCE. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
ONE TUNE – Slow into stride.
TSUNAMI FORCE – Bumped on jumping by GETTING’ LIPPY which shifted outwards. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
CHICA HOTTIE – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted inwards, bumping SWEET FANTASY. Over raced in the early stages when being restrained and was inclined to hang out when rounding the turn near the 600m.
LOVE MY LOUIS – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 2: LION NATHAN Maiden Plate (1200 METRES)
HADMYTIME – Shifted in abruptly on jumping and severely checked FIRE SPHERE. Raced wide in the early stages. Upon returning to scale, apprentice N Olzard reported that in her opinion HADMYTIME may be better suited racing over further distances.
FANCY LEGEND – When asked for a comment on the improved performance, trainer L Horstman stated that FANCY LEGEND had derived significant benefit from its most recent start and in today’s event was able to obtain a soft, unchallenged lead. Trainer Horstman further added that the drop down in class in today’s event proved beneficial to the mare’s overall chances and the stable were expecting an improved performance. Stewards noted the comments.
FIRE SPHERE – Severely checked shortly after the start by HADMYTIME and ROSEDALE MISS which shifted in and out abruptly respectfully and lost significant ground.
MISHANI AMORE –Slow into stride.
ROSEDALE MISS – Shifted out abruptly on jumping severely checking FIRE SPHERE. Near the 200m elected to shift inwards to obtain clear racing room.
EMERALD JOY – Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 3: STAR LIQUOR YEPPOON BENCHMARK 58 Handicap (1200 METRES)
AIDENABET – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Hung in severely in the home straight, despite the efforts of its rider, and placed HEARSAY in restricted room for a number of strides from a point near the 150m. Upon returning to scale, apprentice N Olzard stated that due to AIDENABET being inclined to hang in severely, the gelding was unable to be fully tested over the final stages despite her best efforts. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record for hanging in.
IMAGINE THAT – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
SANTORINI SUMMER – Bumped on jumping by LOOMING LEGEND which shifted outwards.
HEARSAY – Knuckled on jumping and as a result was slow to begin. Placed in restricted room for a number of strides from a point near the 150m by AIDENABET which hung in severely, despite the efforts of its rider.
LOOMING LEGEND – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Shifted out on jumping, bumping SANTORINI SUMMER. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight and put in an awkward stride near 120m.
RACE 4: G.J. GARDNER YEPPOON OPEN Handicap (1200 METRES)
Due to a power issue the start was delayed slightly until the matter was rectified. It was noted that DRAGONG SINP and BRAD anticipated the initial start attempt and made contact with the front of the barriers.
STAMPE – Had to momentarily steady when DRAGON’S SNIP laid outwards abruptly near the 200m.
JOURNALISM – Slow to begin.
DRAGON’S SNIP – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid out abruptly near the 200m, resulting in STAMPE having to momentarily steady, before being straightened. Near the 100m, laid out further when placed under pressure and inconvenienced BRAD. Post-race it was noted the gelding had blood in its mouth which was deemed to be of nil significance after contacting the barriers.
DOUBTING EYE – Shifted outwards on jumping, impeding FROSTY BEAR.
BRAD – Raced wide throughout. Inconvenienced for a stride the 100m when DRAGON’S SNIP laid outwards when placed under pressure. Apprentice M Apel was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for allowing her mount to shift outwards when insufficiently clear of another runner. Laid in over the concluding stages.
FROSTY BEAR – Impeded on jumping by DOUBTING EYE which shifted out. Raced wide throughout. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 5: REGAL’S DENTAL BENCHMARK 50 Handicap (1400 METRES)
The start of this race was delayed allowing the removal of kangaroos which were present on the track.
NINE CARATS – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.
LEICA BITA FUN – Slow into stride. Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. When asked for a comment on the performance jockey R Silvera Olivera stated that in his opinion LEICA BITA FUN failed to handle the firmer track conditions in today’s event.
NATIVE BEE – Jumped away awkwardly.
ROTHFURY – Raced keenly throughout.
SHY REBEL – Jumped away awkwardly.
XARELLO – Jumped away awkwardly.
BEN STARS – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
