GENERAL
Stewards permitted the follow overweight:
R5: P Hamblin +0.5kg
Race 1: WILD RIVER CONCRETE BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1400m
The start of this event was delayed approximately 1hour due to the delayed arrival of the on-course veterinarian.
ZIN ZAN READY – Raced keenly in the early stages.
SOOZIE MAREE – Jumped away awkwardly.
Race 2: FINCH ENGINEERING CLASS B HANDICAP 1200m
STROMA ASTER – Raced keenly approaching the 800m and was restrained to avoid heels.
ROMANTIC THOUGHTS – Slow to begin.
MAD MISSION – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages, improving onto heels having to be restrained near the 600m.
ICHKISS – Shifted in on jumping bumping INHISTIME. Raced keenly in the early stages.
SPILLA – Approaching the 150m, shifted in abruptly before quickly being corrected by its rider.
READY TO MINGLE – Approaching the 150m was obliged to shift wider to obtain clear running when SPILLA shifted in despite the effort of its rider.
INHISTIME – Raced wide throughout.
Race 3: DARLING DOWNS FREIGHT SERVICES OPEN HANDICAP 1000m
CONTEMPTUOUS – Very slow to begin. Whilst returning to scale the gelding collapsed and was tended to by the oncourse veterinarian, an immediate veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be deceased after a suspected significant cardiac event. Post-race samples were taken for analysis.
ELUSIVE EAGLE – Laid in under pressure over the final stages.
MY ELOISE – Buffeted between runners after jumping.
Race 4: DALBY LEAGUES CLUB & THE DEVILS TO DIEHARDS CUP BENCHMARK 58 HCAP 1000M
ALERTADO – Weakened noticeably from the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities apart from minor lacerations on both hind legs consistent with being galloped on.
FIRST PEOPLES – Laid out approaching the 450m becoming awkwardly placed on heels. Approaching the 100m was obliged to shift in to obtain clear running when FREAKSHAKE laid out under pressure.
FREAKSHAKE – Buffeted between runners on jumping. Laid out under pressure passing the 100m. Jockey L Tilley was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
Race 5: CITY INSURANCES MAIDEN PLATE 1000M
CASINO CAT – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin.
KOBE ASCOT – Trainer J Hearne advised that he instructed the jockey to use whip sparingly. This was advertised by way of oncourse public address.
KINOSHITA – After an incident in the tie up stalls underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Slow to begin.
MODISTE – Raced wide throughout. Held up for clear running from the 200m to 100m.
CARDI PEARL – As Jockey N Fazackerley was unable to satisfy the required weight, Stewards permitted Jockey P Hamblin to be substituted as rider of the filly. Jockey Fazackerley was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR190(3) as a result. Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey P Hamblin stated that he felt the mare would benefit with the freshen up and step up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
SMALL DOSES – Raced wide throughout.
