From Doomben, 9.4.16 – Race 1
Trainer G. Boyd reported that Walhaan settled further back in the field than he had expected on that occasion, adding that he intended to continue with its current preparation.

GENERAL
As jockey P. Hammersley was indisposed, riding changes were made as per the stewards summary sheet.
Apprentices M. McGillivray and apprentice B. Appo pleaded guilty to a charge under AR175(p) in that they failed to comply with the requirement of the stewards to attend apprentice school on Monday 11 April despite being advised in writing of which attendance was required.
M. McGillivray and B. Appo were suspended from riding in races for a period of 1 week, to commence at midnight, 17 April and to expire at midnight, 24 April. In assessing penalty stewards took into account that they had previously failed to attend on more than one occasion.
Race 1: Racezone CG&E Maiden Plate – 1110m
MEROVECH – Declared a late scratching at 1.21 pm after jockey A. Spinks was suffering from asthma at the barrier gates and was unable to take his ride. The following deductions were applicable to bets placed after 1.21 pm.

2 cents in the dollar for the place of winner No.4 – Spear Of Destiny
2 cents in the dollar for 2nd placegetter No.7 – Le Dude

FYNNSTAR – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
LONHRO MAGIC – Slow to begin.
ROB ROY – Had to be eased near the 900m to avoid the heels of MR METICULOUS, which momentarily shifted in. Apprentice M. McGillivray, rider of MR METICULOUS, was advised to provide greater clearance when shifting ground in future. Raced 3 wide without cover.
MORE PATASI – Restrained shortly after the start. Overraced in the early stages.
APOLLO HOPE – Restrained from heels making the first turn.
SUNNY FAME – Raced wide throughout.
Race 2: Cascade F&M Maiden Plate – 1110m
VIDA PLAYA – Slow to begin.
SHEZA HOTTI – Slow to begin. Raced 3 wide.
DON’T TELL MAMA – Had to be eased passing the 1000m to avoid the heels of GEORGETTE, which shifted in when not clear. C. Dell, rider of GEORGETTE, was advised to show greater care when shifting ground in future.
GEORGETTE – Shifted in approaching the 600m and bumped the hind quarters of SABA LASS.
SABA LASS – Bumped on the hind quarters nearing the 600m.
MISS JAMAICA – Approaching and rounding the home turn was held up for clear running.
LITTLE BITA LOVE – Jockey J. Lloyd lost the use of his off-side rein in the early stages for a short distance, resulting in the horse racing wide into the first turn. Raced 3 wide without cover from that point.
OFCOURSE SHE DOES – Disappointed for a run near the 200m.
Race 3: James Boag’s Doomben 10,000 QTIS 2yo H'cap - 1350m
MISHANI SILVA – Slow to begin. Steadied near the 1200m.
CAPTAIN’S ANGEL – Slow to begin. Laid in in the straight.
MISHANI EL LOBO – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
RED WAYNE – Raced 3 wide without cover. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was eased down in the straight, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer S. Jones advised that the gelding would be sent for an immediate spell.
Race 4: Ubet BTC Cup Day Class 4 H'cap – 1650m
BIRDIE BLITZ – Connections advised that the gelding, which usually races back in the field, would be ridden on speed from the wide gate. Despite being ridden hard in the early stages, the horse raced midfield 3 wide. Blundered at the start. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
CANONGATE – Had to be steadied from the heels of PUNTINATO near the 1000m.
STONE IN HIS SHOE – Bled from both nostrils during the race. Connections were advised that the horse would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
Race 5: Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup Day Ratings Band 0-70 H'cap - 1050m
REBEL ROVER – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages and when tightened for room passing the 900m made heavy contact with the running rail. The gelding continued to overrace for some distance in the middle stages. Checked from heels near the 700m when overracing.
CORONATION BRUISER – Slow to begin.
TUNED IN – The saddle shifted forward in the early stages when being steadied.
PATRONIZING – Restrained from heels when tightened for room near the 900m. Steadied from heels when overracing near the 600m.
MARY’S DAWN – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
MAGAZINE MISS – Steadied from heels passing the 900m.
C. Dell, rider of MOSS HARRY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the first turn near the 900m he shifted in when insufficiently clear of MAGAZINE MISS, resulting in that horse being taken in on to PATRONIZING, causing that horse to be steadied to avoid heels. C. Dell was suspended from riding in races for a period of 9 days, to commence at midnight, 17 April and to expire at midnight, 26 April.
Race 6: Treasury Casino Oaks QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1200m
STELLA OMBRA – Slow to begin.
KIM NOIR – Slow to begin. Disappointed for a run near the 300m between AMERICAN HERO and STELLA OMBRA.
SANGUINE RED – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Lost ground when racing in restricted room approaching the 500m.
COUNTER MEAL – Raced 3 wide without cover.
AMERICAN HERO – Raced 3 wide.
Race 7: AAMI Stradbroke Day Class 3 H'cap – 1200m
CASTANITA – Slow to begin.
LIMERICK MOON – Laid out and bumped rounding the turn.
WISCONSIN – Bumped on the turn.
CUSHY NUMBER – Steadied from heels over the concluding stages.
Race 8: Hamilton Hotel Class 5 H'cap – 1350m
SONY LEGEND – Connections advised that it was the intention to find cover from the wide barrier. The horse subsequently settled outside the leader. Steadied approaching the 100m when weakening.
ELUSIVE CATCH – Slow to begin.
IT’S A THRILLER – Slow to begin. For some distance approaching the 1000m was buffeted and became unbalanced.
GREAT INAGUA – Raced 3 wide until a point approaching the 500m.
COMACINA – Obliged to alter course passing the 200m to the outside of the heels of SONY LEGEND in order to improve.
GRAYSON SQUARE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
MAGNATUNE – Raced wide throughout.
