SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Ipswich 30/04/25
Race 10: RICH MINX – Trainer M. Hoysted advised that he was satisfied with the manner that RICH MINX had pulled up post-race, nonetheless it was now his intention to send the mare for a spell. Mr. Hoysted further added that it would be his intention to trial RICH MINX prior to resuming.
GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 5: Apprentice B. Wheeler +0.5kg (56kg)
Trainer M. Kropp was fined $100 under LR 68(1) for the late scratching of CONNEWARRE in Race 6.
As Jockey B. Lerena was ill and not riding at today’s meeting, changes were made as per the race day summary. Jockey B. Lerena was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to racing again.
As Jockey J. Lloyd had his license to ride in races suspended at Warwick on the 2nd of May, changes were made as per the race day summary.
As Apprentice C. Collis was delayed due to transport difficulties, changes were made as per the race day summary.
Race 1: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M
GOLDEN NOTRE – Began awkwardly and was hampered shortly after the start. Near the 500m was bumped when LOCKYER shifted in and again shortly thereafter.
JAGGERY – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 500m, raced greenly and shifted in slightly. Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted wider. Raced wide.
ODIN'S MOUNT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide. Raced greenly throughout.
PROVOKER - Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted wider.
SMEXY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
ARTISTIC ENDEAVOUR – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
LOCKYER – Over-raced in the middle stages. Near the 500m, shifted in and bumped with GOLDEN NOTRE and became unbalanced and was bumped again shortly after when shifting in and away from JAGGERY, which was racing greenly.
BELLOVE – Near the 200m, when tiring, was steadied from the heels of SMEXY, which was racing greenly and shifted out slightly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying signs of heat stress.
Race 2: BECOME A BRC MEMBER MAIDEN PLATE 1400 M
ABOVEFORTY – Brushed with FRATIANNOnear the 300m and became unbalanced.
BOROGORU – Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start.
FIRST MAN – Began awkwardly and bumped BOROGORU. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
FRATIANNO – Slow to begin.
SAMMAAN CITY – Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100m and was obliged to steady from heels approaching the finishing line.
TARAVIA (NZ) – Laid in and brushed the running rail near the 800m.
SATURDAYS GIRL - Slow to begin.
Race 3: LADBROKES CALCUTTA & LUNCHEON 13 JUNE BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 2169 M
OUTBURST – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to race.
RING BEARER – Raced wide throughout. Near the 300m, when under pressure, momentarily raced in restricted room and lost ground.
CHILLAXING (IRE) – Laid in approaching the home turn and contacted the rail. When asked to comment on the tactics and performance of CHILLAXING (IRE), Jockey M. Harley stated that it was always his intention to race forward, as done in previous starts, however after passing the 1600m the gelding commenced to over-race, proved difficult to settle and was allowed to stride where comfortable rather than trying to restrain the gelding. Jockey M. Harley further stated that in his opinion CHILLAXING (IRE) raced like a horse that has come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Gollan advised it was now his intention to send the gelding for an immediate spell.
FIRST INNINGS (NZ) – Slow into stride.
FARWEST – Slow to begin.
VERMILION KIRIN – Held up from the 500m until leaving the 200m.
Race 4: THE STAR STRADBROKE SEASON QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1800 M
AIRSWING – Began very awkwardly, unbalancing Apprentice C. Collis resulting in his left knee contacting the barrier partition. Over-raced and got its head up from the 1500m until leaving the 1300m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
DEEP FOCUS (NZ) – Slow to begin. Dropped its head, put in an awkward stride, became unbalanced and lost ground. Trainer P. Shailer was advised that a warning would be placed on the colt in relation to its racing manners.
ECLAIR ENCORE (JPN) – Bumped shortly after the start. Near the 50m shifted out abruptly, despite the efforts of its rider, making heavy contact with RAMP IT UP and became unbalanced.
RAMP IT UP – Raced wide in the early stages. Near the 50m shifted in abruptly, despite the efforts of its rider, making heavy contact with ECLAIR ENCORE (JPN) and became unbalanced.
HIGH CLASS ROLLER – Began awkwardly and shifted in, bumping ECLAIR ENCORE (JPN).
GREEN MEADOWS – Carried wider when rounding the home turn when AIRSWING shifted out to improve.
JUDGE JACK - Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail.
PROPOSE – Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail.
BOLD BLAZE – Slow to begin.
Race 5: LADBROKES FORM GENIUS BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1600 M
AKROTIRI (NZ) – Shortly after the start, Apprentice T. Fellon was struck in the helmet when her mount threw its head up for a stride. Apprentice T. Fenlon was examined by the Club Doctor and cleared to fulfill her riding engagements.
PATMOS ISLAND – Raced wide for the majority.
BOYS NIGHT OUT – Began awkwardly.
CHO OYU – When questioned regarding the performance of CHO OYU, Apprentice C. Collis reported that the gelding began well and settled in a favourable position, however, did not let down as expected in the home straight and proved to be disappointing. Trainer B. Lockwood advised that it was his intention to send CHO OYU for a short freshen up. Following the running of this race, Apprentice C. Collis was examined by the Club Doctor and stood down from the remainder of his riding engagements. Apprentice C. Collis was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to racing again.
MISS CHENERY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up from rounding the home turn until approaching the 200m.
SMART AS SMART – Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the early part of the home straight until leaving the 300m. Rider dropped his whip leaving the 200m. Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages, proving difficult to ride out to the finishing line.
TYPHOON TIP – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight. When questioned regarding the performance of TYPHOON TIP, Jockey N. Beriman stated that her mount never travelled comfortably and, in her opinion, may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer N. Hemmings reported that it was her intention to give TYPHOON TIP a freshen up..
WONFORWAZZA – Hampered shortly after the start. Near the 1000m, commenced to over-race and improved onto the heels of BOYS NIGHT OUT when the pace of the race slackened and as a result, shifted out and made heavy contact with YELLOWHAMMER. Continued to lay out and raced wide for the remainder. Trainer M. Morrison was advised that the gelding would now be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
YELLOWHAMMER – Near the 1000m was carried wider, bumped and became unbalanced when WONFORWAZZA, while over racing, shifted out to avoid heels.
Race 6: SKY RACING CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1400 M
BOHEMIAN LAD – Near the 800m, shifted wider to gain clear running and raced wide for the remainder. When questioned regarding the performance of BOHEMIAN LAD, Jockey N. Callow reported that the gelding failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and was very disappointing over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D. Vandyke advised Stewards that BOHEMIAN LAD would undergo blood tests and an endoscopic examination by the stable veterinarian and would report back on the condition of the gelding to Stewards in the coming days.
OCTOBER (NZ) (Lang) – Bumped shortly after the start.
MENAZZI – Began awkwardly and bumped OCTOBER.
SIZZLE MINIZZLE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
JEALOUS – Slow to begin. Near the 1200m was obliged to steady from the heels of MENAZZI which shifted in. Approaching the 1000m, had to be steadied when MENAZZIrestrained for cover. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until approaching the 250m. Lost its near hind plate in running.
Race 7: XXXX GOLD BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1000 M
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor the rider of the second placed ACTION KING against first placed CHAKRA BOY (J. Stanley,) alleging interference leaving the 100m. Stewards after hearing evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the stewards patrol footage, were of the opinion that approaching the 100m, CHAKRA BOY commenced to shift out under riding, into the running line of ACTION KING, which was inconvenienced and obliged to shift to the inside to avoid heels and obtain clear running. Stewards when considering the one and a quarter length margin, the level of interference, how both runners finished the race off and the proximity to the winning post, could not be comfortably satisfied that should the incident not have occurred, ACTION KING would have won the race and as such, dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the judge’s placings.
ACTION KING (KWT) – Near the 100m, improved onto the heels of CHAKRA BOY, which shifted out under riding and as a result was inconvenienced and obliged to shift to the inside to avoid heels and obtain clear running. Jockey Stanley the rider of CHAKRA BOY was charged under AR 131(a) for careless riding in that when leaving the 100m failed to make sufficient effort to stop and straighten his mount and allowed CHAKRA BOY to shift out into the running line of ACTION KING, which was inconvenienced and had to shift in to avoid heels. Jockey J. Stanleys’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days starting midnight 16/05/25 and ending midnight 23/05/25.
THELWELL - Began awkwardly, unbalancing its Jockey P. Hamblin momentarily.
CHAKRA BOY – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
INVINOVICH – Hampered and lost ground.
DEVASTATING – Jockey R. Maloney reported that although his mount travelled comfortably, when asked for an effort in the home straight, proved to be disappointing in its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Gollan advised Stewards that DEVASTATINGwould undergo further examination by the stable veterinarian and would report back on the condition of the gelding to Stewards in the coming days.
KRAKARIB – Began awkwardly, unbalancing its Jockey D. Thornton momentarily. Lost its’ near-fore plate in running.
MR ENCORE - Began awkwardly, unbalancing its Jockey J. Guthman -Chester momentarily.
Race 8: LADBROKES PUNTERS ASSIST CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1400 M
EXPLOSIVE TYCOON – Near the 200m, was hampered when awkwardly placed at the heels of ACAPULCO GIRL (NZ) (Apprentice E. Lang) which shifted out. Apprentice E. Lang was reprimanded under AR 131(a) for careless riding.
NESCAFFIER - Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages when GREY IMPACT was taken in by EXPLOSIVE TYCOON.
TREVENSON – Raced wide.
TRAPEDO – Bumped on jumping and became unbalanced. Bumped rounding the home turn when ROCK HARD LOVE shifted out to improve. Raced wide.
ACAPULCO GIRL (NZ) – Laid out under hard riding in the home straight.
SHERAQUAY – Slow to begin. Leaving the 1200m, raced in restricted room to the inside of MATERIALIST, which shifted in. When questioned regarding the performance of SHERAQUAY, Jockey A. Jones reported that the filly travelled well, however was disappointing when asked for an effort in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer J. Mason was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again. Trainer J. Mason advised that it was his intention to spell the filly.
ROCK HARD LOVE – Hampered between runners on jumping away.
MATERIALIST – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
GREY IMPACT – Approaching the winning post, raced in restricted room and was taken inwards by EXPLOSIVE TYCOON (Jockey M. Harley). Jockey M. Harley was reprimanded pursuant AR 131(a) for careless riding.
