Race 1: AGRICULTURAL REQUIREMENTS GATTON MAIDEN H’CAP – 1600M

ADAROSER – Commenced to compound leaving the 600m, finishing some distance behind the main body of the field. Trainer M. Nolan was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance, however advised that the horse will now be sent for an immediate spell. Stewards advised Mr Nolan that the horse would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to resuming racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

English, the rider of ESKIMO KING, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that she permitted her mount to shift in at that stage and her licence to ride in races was suspended for 7 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 3 January 2016 and expire at midnight on Sunday 10 January 2016. As apprentice B. Derbyshire was unable to claim her full allowance, apprentice M. Murphy was substituted as the rider of LILITH OF EDEN.
INDIAN OUTLAW – Began awkwardly and bumped with another runner. When questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance, apprentice E. Ljung advised that the gelding travelled well throughout the event and when placed under pressure near the 600m commenced to hang in and did so for the remainder of the event and proved disappointing. Trainer T. Sears also expressed disappointment with the horse’s performance today and advised that he would monitor the horse’s post-race recovery and may consider sending the horse for a spell following that.

Apprentice Murphy stated that his instructions were to lead, which is the horse’s normal racing pattern, however was unable to cross BILLY GOAT and LANDALE and elected leaving the 900m to restrain to a position behind the two leaders. Whilst stewards noted his instructions, they were of the opinion that he may have erred in persisting so long when unable to obtain the lead and restrain his mount.
