SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT


GENERAL
 
As Apprentice B. Wheeler was not riding at today’s meeting (pre-existing injury), Stewards permitted rider replacements as per the Stewards summary. B. Wheeler was advised that he would require a medical clearance prior to riding again.
 
As Apprentice I. Jessop was not riding at today’s meeting (illness), Stewards permitted rider replacements as per the Stewards summary.
 
Trainer M. Currie was fined $200 pursuant to LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dual acceptor ALLEZIZZY by the prescribed time.
 
Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer S. Lee for the late notification of rider for BRING ME SAKI (R6) and SERENADE THE CAT (R8).


Race 1: MCNEIL FARMS QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD BM65 HANDICAP 860 Metres
 
TIGER TIE – Laid out rounding the home turn. Over the concluding stages shied at the winning post and shifted out abruptly, momentarily unbalancing its rider.
 
MISHANI STORM – Began Awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
ZATANNA – Began Awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out rounding the home turn. When asked for comment on performance, Jockey D. Thornton stated the filly was first up today and was noticeably agitated behind the barriers. D. Thornton further added that ZATANNA never travelled comfortably throughout the race and could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. Trainer M Hoysted concurred with D. Thorton’s comments and undertook to advise Stewards of anything that may come to light in the followings days that may explain the performance. A post-race veterinary examination found no obvious abnormalities.
 
MISHANI SUSPECT - Laid in under pressure in home straight.
 
INVISIBLE TARGET – Underwent a resaddle on arrival at the barriers. Began Awkwardly
 
MISHANI DEVINE – Slow to begin. Inside the 100m had to be steadied and alter course to obtain clear running when awkwardly placed on the heels of TIGER TIE (T Fenlon) which shifted in when not fully clear under riding. Apprentice T. Fenlon was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a).
 
BARBRA – Race wide throughout.
 
 
Race 2: TEMPORARY FENCE & BARRIER HIRE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 860 Metres

MR PLAYTIME – Raced greenly throughout. Over the concluding stages shied at the winning post and shifted out abruptly momentarily unbalancing its rider.
 
I DROVE ALL NIGHT – Began Awkwardly.
 
WANTSOMEMOREOFIT – Raced wide. Laid in under pressure in straight.
 
AWESOME TESS – Began awkwardly.
 
VALLEY OF FAME – Slow into stride. Jockey B. Lerena reported that filly raced greenly and never travelled comfortably throughout.
 
DUBALENE – Raced wide from the 600m. Laid out under pressure in the straight. Jockey J Huxtable reported that he was of the opinion the filly did not appreciate the tight turning track and would be suited to step up in distance.
 
KIRRA'S SISTER – Shifted out abruptly approaching the winning post.
 
PLEA – Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 700m when racing keenly was steadied when improving onto the heels of AWESOME TESS.
 
 
Race 3: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 1 PLATE 860 Metres

The start of the race was delayed approximately two minutes avoid a clash with an interstate race. The start was further delayed when LEVAR became fractious shortly after being loaded into the barriers. LEVAR was removed, underwent a veterinary examination, and was deemed suitable to start.
 
IDHANA – Began awkwardly. Laid in for the majority of the race.
 
SCRIBBLE – Began awkwardly.
 
JACKA STANDS ALONE – Near the 400m improved onto the heels of SPARTUS and was steadied.
 
SPICY DUCK – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure.
 
THE LOUVRE – Slow to begin and then tightened for room and lost ground. Near the 150m was disappointed for a run for a number of strides between SPICY DUCK which was laying in and INHANA which shifted out under pressure, was then shifted to the outside of SPICY DUCK to obtain clear running.
 
BOONAH FLASHER – Began awkwardly.
 
LEVAR – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
 
Race 4: LADBROKES MATES MODE RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1100 Metres
 
The start of this race was delayed when LITTLE CHARMER was kicked by another runner, underwent a veterinary examination, and was deemed suitable to start.
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing jockey J. Molloy the rider of MY SICADA placed second, to view the official photo for first place. When J. Molloy was suitably satisfied with the placing’s, Stewards declared correct weight.

ARCTIC BEAR – Raced wide throughout.
 
HE’S A DEVIL – Passing the 860m was bumped and became unbalanced.
 
BY BY MUSIC – Raced wide from the 700m.
 
CRYPT DE PIN – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
LITTLE CHARMER – Passing the 860m was bumped and became unbalanced and a short distance later shifted in.
 
CHOCKABLOCK – Raced wide throughout.
 
LITTLE SPARK – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid out rounding home turn.
 
CRAZY EYED FRED – Began awkwardly and bumped with TETCHY. Leaving the 800m had to be steadied from the heels of HE’S A DEVIL. When questioned in relation to tactics adopted, jockey J. Stanley explained that his instructions were to ride the gelding where comfortable, not to bustle the gelding out of its comfort zone and that it would probably get back, adding the horse was coming back from 1400m at its last start. He added that after beginning well, the horse did not show any pace and settled back in the field. He further added that he received some backwash from interference near the first turn and that his mount over raced in the early stages. J. Stanley added that he pressured his mount from the 400m and in not electing to shift wide around the home turn, rode his mount for luck rounding the home turn, before getting to the outside in the home straight where the gelding made steady ground, adding that he advised connections that the horse would be better suited over more ground. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
TETCHY – Began awkwardly bumped with CRAZY EYED FRED. Raced keenly in the early stages. Passing the 860m, commenced to over-race and got its’s head up proving difficult to ride, and shifting out bumping LITTLE CHARMER, resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced and LITTLE CHARMER shifting out and bumping HE’S A DEVIL. A short distance later, LITTLE CHARMER which was unbalanced, shifted in tightening TETCHY which made contact with the running rail, being checked and losing ground. Trainer G Richardson was advised a warning had been issued on the mare in relation to its racing manners.
 
 
Race 5: LOCKYER PRODUCE 0 - 58 HANDICAP  1100 Metres

The start of this race was delayed when CHALICE WELL became fractious shortly after being loaded into the barriers. CHALICE WELL was removed, underwent a veterinary examination, and was deemed suitable to start.
 
BOOMI'S BUDDY – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
DARLHISMA – Upon arrival on-course underwent a veterinary examination as gelding had not raced since 25th November 2023 and was deemed suitable to start. Began awkwardly.
 
CHALICE WELL – Trainer J. Healy was fined $200 under the provisions of LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider. Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be showing signs of mild heat stress and a minor laceration to its nostril.
 
BOOGA RAY – Began awkwardly.
 
IMPERIONESS – Held up for clear running from near the 300m until near the 150m.
 
PROMETIO MAS – Laid in under pressure in the straight.

 
Race 6: LADBROKES FORM GENIUS MAIDEN PLATE 1400 Metres

TWILIGHT STEPS – Slow to begin.
 
VICTORY MELODY – Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the instructions given to Jockey J Huxtable and the tactics adopted in today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
 
TOREADOR – Laid out under pressure.
 
WORLDY SPIRIT – Hung out approaching the turn near the 1100m and was steadied from the heels of ANACARDIUM. Near 100m was hampered when contacted by AMADOR which shifted in abruptly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the near foreleg.
 
VERSION – Shortly after jumping away bumped with VOLCANIC PARK.
 
VOLCANIC PARK – Shortly after jumping away bumped with VERSION. Race wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer P. Shailer was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to resuming.
 
AMADOR – Shifted in under pressure from the 200m and approaching 100m when awkwardly placed on the heels of VICTORY MELODY shifted in abruptly and contacted WORLDY SPIRIT, resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced. While acknowledging that apprentice J. Busuttin had stopped riding and made an effort to straighten her mount, she was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) and advised that she would be required to stop riding and straighten her mounts sooner in future than she had done on this occasion.
 
PROCLAIMER – Slow to begin.
 
COSMIC INSANITY – Raced wide from the 600m.

 
Race 7: MEMORIAL RACE DAY FRIDAY 9TH MAY FILLIES AND MARES 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1400 Metres

DASHING HOPE – Race wide throughout.
 
SUCCESSFUL – Jockey K. Matheson was reprimanded pursuant to the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
PINTURA ROSA (FR) – Stood flat footed and lost significant ground. Trainer R Lipp was advised the mare would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to resuming racing again.
 
PACIFIC PIRATE – Raced wide for majority of the event.
 
QUALITY MISS – Raced keenly for a short distance near the 1100m.
 
PRETTY RHO – Began awkwardly.
 
NEWMARKET MISS – Race wide in the early stages. Near 300m was steadied and altered course to avoid heels of PRETTY RHO (J Murphy) which shifted out when not fully clear. Jockey J. Murphy was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant AR131(a).
 
MISS BACALL (NZ) – When questioned in relation to performance, apprentice J. Williams explained that the mare never travelled comfortably and when placed under pressure in the straight did not respond to his riding. J. Williams was reminded of his obligations pursuant to AR 131(b) to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race.
 
PAMPUNI – Lost both hind plates in running.
 
TSUKINO – Stewards adjourned an inquiry into jockey C. Bayliss use of the whip in the home straight.
 
After this race, the track was upgraded to a Good 3 at 3.17pm.
 
 
Race 8: SAVE THE DATE 2025 CHARITY GOLF DAY 27TH JUNE COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1400 Metres
 
SMOOTH FLIGHT – Race wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
YEAH COPY – Knuckled on jumping away.
 
BAUHAUS – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
SURCOTE – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey K. Matheson stated that he had to pressure his mount early to obtain a forward position, and that the gelding never travelled comfortably and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery.
 
LISSARO (NZ) – Had difficulty obtaining clear rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.
 
 
Race 9: SAVE THE DATE 2025 LADBROKES GATTON CUP 28TH JUNE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1600 Metres

 
MAURICE'S MEDAD (C Lowe) – Approaching 1200m improved onto the heels of SPILL THE SECRET and shifted out resulting in Apprentice C. Lowe becoming unbalanced. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
SLY CORNER (NZ) (S Pointon) – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted Apprentice S Pointon explained that it was her instructions to be positive and obtain a forward position if the gelding began well. Trainer B. Reardon confirmed the instructions. Trainer B Reardon was reprimanded for failing to notify Stewards of a change of tactics pursuant to AR 100(1)(a). A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
 
SPILL THE SECRET (L Tilley) –Leaving the 1100m raced keenly for a short distance.
 
SERENADE THE CAT (L Martyn) – Raced keenly rounding the turn near the 1100m. Held up rounding the home turn until the 250m. Laid in under pressure in the straight. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice L. Martyn stated that her instructions were to be in a forward position, however due to the fast tempo in the early stages, she elected to take a position with cover. She added that she raced in restricted room near the 1000m and as a result raced further back in the field than anticipated. L. Martyn further added that after being held up round the home turn, that the mare finished the race of fairly.
 
ROMAN HEIR (J Stanley) – Lost the near hind plate in running.
 
QUICK SHOT (N Tomizawa) – Race wide throughout.
 
BOULT (S Willis) – Lost near hind plate. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
 
TERMITE (A Graham) – On jumping away was tightened for room and lost ground.
