SURPRISE RESULT - When questioned as to his failure to ride the gelding out over the final 100m jockey A. TORBAY – Slow to begin. A short distance after the start was hampered by RED HOT DAZZLER, which shifted out. When questioned as to the performance jockey S. Galloway stated that from the wide barrier today he elected to take up a position to the rear of the field, similar to the successful tactics which were adopted at the gelding’s previous start. Jockey Galloway added that the gelding then travelled comfortably throughout and leaving the 700m it commenced to improve into the race on the back of MILITARY LADY. Jockey Galloway further added that despite his efforts the gelding peaked on its run passing the 200m and failed to finish the race off as expected. Jockey Galloway was of the opinion that both the 60kg impost and the heavy track conditions had a detrimental affect on the gelding’s overall performance. Stewards noted the explanation.

Taylor stated that after beginning well he was of the opinion that GROBBELAAR was going to take up the lead however, after GROBBELAAR was slow to begin and he had begun well he found himself in the lead unopposed. Jockey Taylor noted trainer D. Kelly had indicated that the stable was confident of a forward showing due to the the heavy conditions today. Trainer D. Kelly confirmed that it was not his intention to have the horse lead today and noted that with no early speed in the race it was able to obtain the lead of its own accord.
GOLDONI – When questioned as to the tactics adopted jockey D. Griffin stated that he was given no specific instructions except to settle the gelding wherever it was comfortable. Jockey Griffin noted that after beginning fairly he elected to obtain a trailing position behind GROBBELAAR, which he anticipated would take him into the race. Jockey Griffin added that when the tempo quickened passing the 600m he placed the gelding under pressure in an effort to improve after which it was only able to finish the race off fairly. Stewards noted the explanation.

HIDDEN LOVE – When questioned as to the tactics adopted today, particularly the strong tempo in the middle stages when leading, App Ainsworth stated that her instructions were to lead if possible. App Ainsworth noted that the mare was up in distance from its last start and weakened over the final 200m.
