When questioned regarding her riding in the home straight, Apprentice E. Lang stated that when racing slightly to the outside of SONNYY DAZE, she elected to shift to the inside as she felt that SONNY DAZE had a tendency to shift outwards in the straight and would continue to shift out resulting in GIVE GIGGLES being disappointed for a run between SONNY DAZE and BATTLE OF VIENNA. She further added in hindsight she may have erred in deciding to shift inwards instead of being more patient and continuing to explore the opportunity to improve between SONNY DAZE and BATTLE OF VIENNA. Stewards concurred with apprentice Lang that she may have been better served to have continued to try to improve to the outside of SONNY DAZE however took the matter no further other than to note her explanation.

SPIRIT OF BRODIE – Raced wide early.

BATTLE OF VIENNA – Raced wide for the majority. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor was fined $200 under AR 131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the finishing line. Stewards were comfortably satisfied that his actions did not cost BATTLE OF VIENNA finishing in fourth position.

THE GAMBLING GREEK – Brushed shortly after the start. Held up rounding home turn. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today after being a betting market drifter, Apprentice C. Vitler (in the presence of Senior Jockey A. Mallyon,) reported his instructions were to race in a forward position however not to overly pressure the gelding in the early stages as it has a tendency to over-race, however after beginning fairly, THE GAMBLING GREEK failed to muster any early speed when asked for an effort. Co-trainer T. Sears stated that his instructions were to lead or settle on pace and was surprised to see THE GAMBLING GREEK positioned in a rearward position. Co-Trainer M. Sears confirmed the instructions issued to apprentice Vitler, however she was also surprised to see THE GAMBLING GREEK positioned back in the field.
