1st – FOUR JAYS 2nd – OKAY SWIFT 3rd – BETTER CALL SAUL 4th – STRICTLY MAGIC

BETTER CALL SAUL - Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards viewed the patrol film to ascertain the circumstances surrounding a towel being entangled around the leg of Jockey P. Cullen. It was established that when the gelding was fractious in the barriers, Jockey Cullen used a towel to wipe the sweat from the neck of BETTER CALL SAUL, and when the start was effected the towel became entangled around his leg and did not become detached until after the 600 metres.

FOUR JAYS – Raced keenly in the middle stages.

KATTER – Jockey K. Stone was reprimanded under A.R. 137A for striking the gelding on 6 occasions prior to the 100 metres , one more than is permitted under the rules.

Race 2: SKY Thoroughbred Central Maiden Handicap - 1000 Metres
1st – GRAVETTIAN 2nd - PERDANERITE 3rd – OUR PROMISE 4th – BONNE SANTE

Whilst parading in the enclosure THE TEENY HASS reared and dislodged its rider, Jockey J. Stanley. Subsequently Jockey Stanley was transported to hospital. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the mare at 1.36 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on THE TEENY HASS be refunded and that the following deductions apply:

25¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, GRAVETTIAN
16¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, GRAVETTIAN
19¢ in the dollar for the place for second, PERDANERITE
21¢ in the dollar for the place for third, OUR PROMISE

Jockey Stanley was transported to Townsville Hospital and was unable to fulfil his further engagements. Substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

SOME SUNNYDAY – Buffeted between runners at the start.

HAPPY TO BE HERE – Shifted in abruptly at the start and made contact with another runner.

YARD GLASS – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously in the early stages.

CRAIGLEA SNAPPY – Slow to begin.

BONNE SANTE – Shortly after straightening for home was disappointed for a run and had to be shifted out to improve.

Race 3: Hygain-Feeding Champions Since 1983 QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – CRAIGLEA ZIP 2nd – TIERES TOUCH 3rd – UNI 4th – CRAIGLEA JABIRU

BOOK A FLIGHT – Struck the gate when leaving the enclosure. Examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Hampered shortly after the start. Jockey F. Edwards was reprimanded under A.R. 137A for striking his mount in consecutive strides on 3 occasions prior to the 100 metres.

DIVINE SAGA – Began awkwardly.

CRAIGLEA JABIRU – Slow to begin.

CRAIGLEA DEKEN – Shortly after the start shifted in abruptly, despite the efforts of its rider, and hampered BOOK A FLIGHT.

Passing the 600 metres MINNIE STREET (Jockey K. Stone) shifted in and carried DIVINE SAGA (W. D’Avila) in onto UNI (Jockey D. Simmons), which had to be steadied when racing greenly. Jockey Stone was reprimanded.

CRAIGLEA DEKEN - Jockey G. Kliese reported that after beginning awkwardly his mount was inclined to shift in, resulting in him settling further back than anticipated, then shortly after straightening was disappointed for a run and was held up and unable to obtain clear running in the straight.

MINNIE STREET – When questioned regarding the performance of the filly Jockey K. Stone said that his mount travelled comfortably in a prominent position, however was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn and weakened over the concluding stages.

Race 4: Garrisons Restaurant @ Townsville RSL Benchmark 60 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – SMOOTH GENERAL 2nd – RANGILA 3rd – CARLINO’S WAY 4th – INSIDE PAGE

RANGILA – Began awkwardly. Shifted its off hind plate.

SMOOTH GENERAL – Prior to the race underwent a veterinary examination, at the request of its rider, and was cleared to start.

MIDNIGHT SONG – For some distance passing the 200 metres was held up on heels.

INSIDE PAGE – Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight and raced in restricted room thereafter.

Jockey S. Wilson, the rider of PURRFECT TYCOON, was fined $100 under A.R.137A for striking his mount on 8 occasions prior to the 100 metres, 3 more than is permitted under the rule.

Jockey S. Wilson was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a), in that rounding the turn near the 950 metres he allowed PURRFECT TYCOON to shift in when insufficiently clear of MIDNIGHT SONG (Jockey A. Coome), which had to be checked. Jockey Wilson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence at midnight on 26th January 2016, up to and including 5th February 2016.

Race 5: Townsville RSL’s Sports Bar BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1609 metres
1st – ELEMENT OF CHANCE 2nd – STANDFORD 3rd – SHOW US A SMILE 4th – NUDGEE

UNDER THE LIGHTS – Began awkwardly.

ELEMENT OF CHANCE - Apprentice M. Kai was cautioned regarding use of his whip above shoulder height.

A post-race veterinary examination of ONEEYED UNDERTAKER, which failed to respond to its rider’s urgings at any stage, did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr G. Porter advised Stewards the gelding would now be sent for an immediate spell bearing in mind today's poor performance.

Race 6: Racing @ Townsville Sat 23 Jan BM Handicap– 1400 metres
1st – DEE MINISHING 2nd – LAGUNA VISTA 3rd – SHERIDAN 4th – THE PANTZ

SOTTERO – Shortly after the start was crowded for room and had to be checked.

VENCEREMOS – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with another runner.

LEMON CRUIZER – Bumped at the start.

FRUMBOLI – Began awkwardly, resulting in its rider, Jockey W. D’Avila, becoming momentarily unbalanced. Raced wide without cover throughout.

Rounding the turn near the 950 metres when racing keenly, DEE MINISHING had to be steadied to avoid the heels of EURONGILLY (K. Aho), which shifted in when not quite clear. App. Aho was advised to exercise more care.

PROSPERUM – On returning to scale Jockey D. Hayse reported that his mount was held up in the early part of the straight, and then raced in restricted room and could not be fully tested.

THE PANTZ – Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight.

Race 7: SKY Racing Class 6 Plate – 1200 metres
1st – SHE BEE STINGIN’ 2nd – GREEN ANCHOR 3rd – AMERICAN HUSSLER 4th - KING COBIA

RIVARIVA – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground (2 lengths).

DEL PALIO – Slow to begin.

GREEN ANCHOR – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Passing the 600 metres FIELD MARSHALL, which was racing keenly, shifted out and carried GREEN ANCHOR wider, which in turn resulted in THE OWL being taken wider. In the home straight shifted out under pressure and made contact with another runner on numerous occasions.

THE OWL – Carried wide and hampered near the 600 metres.

SHE BEE STINGIN’ – Slow to begin. Bumped by another runner on numerous occasions in the home straight.

FIELD MARSHALL – Raced keenly 3 wide without cover.

Stewards spoke to Jockey P. Cullen and Jockey D. Simmons in regard to raising their elbows and making contact. In not issuing penalties, stewards were mindful of the racing manners of GREEN ANCHOR, which was inclined to shift out.

Race 8: XXXX Gold Class 2 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – CLANDISE 2nd – CRAIGLEA PISTOL 3rd – MODEL TO EXCEED 4th - GUTZ CI

JACSAID – Refused to parade to the barriers. Stewards ordered the scratching of the mare at 5.10 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on the mare be refunded and that the following deductions apply:

4¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, CLANDISE
3¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, CLANDISE
6¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, CRAIGLEA PISTOL
4¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, MODEL TO EXCEED

Trainer R. Baker was advised that a warning will be placed on the horse’s barrier manners and if it performs in a similar way in future it may be required to trial.

PRIMED FOR ACTION – Raced wide without cover throughout.

CLANDISE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.
