LATE RIDING CHANGES

As Apprentice K. Aho was injured and unable to fulfil her engagements, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Apprentice Aho was advised that she must provide a medical clearance before being permitted to ride again.

Race 1: Like the TTC on Facebook Maiden Plate - 1400 metres
1st – SLIP RAIL 2nd – STAR ODYSSEY 3rd – BENTOTA 4th – ZEDAHEEL

CORONATION JOURNEY – Slow to begin.

ENVIOUS EYES – Hampered shortly after the start.

BENTOTA – Raced keenly 3 wide without cover.

Rounding the turn near the 900 metres, when the pace slowed, HE’S HARADA’S SON (App.M. Kai), BONNE SANTE (Jockey S. Wilson) and ZEDAHEEL (Jockey J. Long) all had to be checked and lost ground.

DEVASTATING RHYTHM - Passing the 900 metres had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of another runner.

SLIP RAIL - When questioned regarding the gelding leading today, Jockey D. Hayse said that the gelding was stepping up in distance and he was instructed to take up a forward position if circumstance allowed, as SLIP RAIL has a tendency to miss the kick. He stated that after beginning particularly well and when there was no speed in the early stages, he allowed his mount to stride forward, where it assumed the lead comfortably. Trainer Mr J. Manzelmann confirmed the instructions issued, however was reminded of his obligation to inform stewards of any change in tactics.

HE’S HARADA’S SON – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding Apprentice M. Kai said that his mount was standing awkwardly in the barriers and after beginning only fairly he had to ride the gelding along to take up a forward position to comply with his instructions. However, he added that he was hampered near the 950 metres and placed his mount under pressure from the 600 metres, where it failed to respond and was disappointing.

ZEDAHEEL – Jockey J. Long was reprimanded under A.R. 137A (5)(a) for using his whip on 3 consecutive occasions prior to the 100 metres.

Following this race the track rating was upgraded to Good (3).

GENERAL BEEJAY - The start was delayed when the gelding had to be re-saddled. Raced wide without cover throughout.

Race 3: Magic Millions March Yearling Sale QTIS 3-Y-O Maiden Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – LILLY KAREENA 2nd – UNI 3rd – HAMUNAPTRA 4th – ROCKET LINER

Whilst parading to the barriers BIG EGOTIST dislodged its rider App. R. Payne and galloped for a considerable distance. Stewards ordered the late scratching of the gelding at 1.45 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on BIG EGOTIST be refunded and that the following deductions apply:

3¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, LILLY KAREENA
3¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, LILLY KAREENA
3¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, UNI
4¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, HAMUNAPTRA

BANOFFE – The start was delayed when the filly was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Began awkwardly and tailed the field throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly was shin sore. Trainer Mrs L. McCormack said that the filly will be spelled. Nevertheless, she was advised that BANOFFE must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.

TOXICITY – Knuckled on jumping. Inclined to lay out throughout the event.

JOYAU DE LA MER – Slow to begin. Over the final few strides had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of another runner.

UP TO SCARLETT – At the start was inclined to race greenly and had to be steadied from heels.

JUSTIFICATION – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.

ROCKET LINER – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

BOLT ON BY – Inclined to lay out throughout the event.

LILLY KAREENA – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the straight, then passing the 100 metres shifted in abruptly, resulting in its rider, S. Kaya, becoming unbalanced.

Race 4: Become a TTC Member Today Class 1 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – SUSSEX STREET 2nd – MIDNIGHT SONG 3rd – HIDDEN ABILITY 4th – RULISTIC

GYPSY SECRET – The start was delayed when the filly proved difficult to load into the barriers. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that a warning will be placed on the filly’s barrier manners.

MAN OF BUSINESS – Slow to begin.

LOVE YA STYLE – Approaching the 200 metres improved onto the heels of a weakening runner, had to be steadied and shifted out to obtain clear running.

HIDDEN ABILITY – Began awkwardly, then hung out, placing its rider at a disadvantage.

TAXEDTOTHEHILT – Raced wide throughout.

COBUNGRA BOY – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Jockey F. Edwards could offer no explanation and said that the gelding travelled comfortably in a prominent position throughout the early and middle stages, however when placed under pressure in the early part of the home straight weakened noticeably and was disappointing. As the gelding had left the course prior to the prescribed time, trainer Ms O. Cairns will be told that before it would be permitted to race again she must furnish a full veterinary certificate of fitness, including the results of an endoscopic analysis, and will be interviewed in relation to the matter.

Race 5: Sky Racing BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – POPULAR BELIEF 2nd – AMERICAN HUSSLER 3rd – SHEKOU 4th – LIL’ RED MONKEY

HOYWEDGE - When questioned, Jockey G. Kliese said that after being slow to begin he rode his mount along in the early stages, where it never travelled comfortably at any stage of the race. He added that, rather than improve around runners from the 600 metres, he elected to remain racing on the back of those runners and when placed under pressure in the straight his mount went to the line only fairly.

MADAME GINOUX – Apprentice G. Mitchell dropped her whip in the early part of the home straight.

Shortly after the start POPULAR BELIEF (Jockey S. Wilson) shifted in and crowded LIL’ RED MONKEY (App. C. Jokic) in onto SHEKOU (App. R. Payne). Jockey S. Wilson was advised to exercise more care in future. Jockey Wilson was fined $100 under A.R. 137A for using his whip on the gelding on 6 occasions prior to the 100 metres, 1 more than permitted under the rule.

SHEKOU – App. R. Payne was reminded of her obligation to ride her mount out to the finish.

AVELLINO – A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which weakened noticeably in the home straight, did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative said that, in light of today’s poor performance, the mare will now leave the stable.

Race 6: Evergreen Racing Surfaces Open Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – KAYAN 2nd – DAZZLE ON 3rd – WISHFUL 4th – CHEVAL ARGENTE

FIELD MARSHALL – Began awkwardly with its head up, resulting in the gelding striking its rider, App. M. Kai in the face and causing him to become unbalanced and lose ground.

BOOM SHA LA – Slipped behind at the start.

WISHFUL – Knuckled on jumping.

DAZZLE ON – Dipped at the start.

Race 7: Racing @ Townsville Friday 29 Jan BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1609 metres
1st – JAMALKA 2nd – TRY ME DOL 3rd – NUDGEE 4th - CARLINO’S WAY


CARLINO’S WAY – On returning to scale Jockey P. Cullen reported that his mount was inclined to race keenly and refused to settle.

CASHED UP BULLY – Rounding the turn near the 1400 metres raced ungenerously with its head up.

NUDGEE – When questioned regarding her riding, App. G. Mitchell explained that the gelding was standing awkwardly in the barrier and was slow to begin. She said that, bearing in mind that her instructions were to lead, rather than attempt to restrain her mount she said that as the gelding has a tendency to pull, she allowed it to stride forward around the field where it was able to take up a favourable position throughout the middle stages.

OUR KAPOW – When questioned regarding the poor performance, App. M. Kai said that his mount travelled comfortably in a handy position throughout, however in his opinion was beaten from as far out as the 600 metres.
