Race 4: Class 1 Handicap 1000 metres:
HIDDEN ABILITY – Apprentice R. Payne was reprimanded under A.R. 137A(5)(a)(i) for using the whip on the gelding in two consecutive strides prior to the 100 metres.
Race 6: Evergreen Racing Surfaces Open Handicap – 1200 metres:
CHEVAL ARGENTE – Apprentice R. Payne was fined $100 for using the whip on the gelding in two consecutive strides prior to the 100 metres.

STRICTLY MAGIC – Slow to begin.
SHEKOU – Raced keenly in the lead and refused to settle.
ELEMENT OF CHANCE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was dehydrated. Trainer F. Wieland informed stewards that ELEMENT OF CHANCE will now be spelled.
Race 2: Townsville RSL’s Spectators Sports Bar Maiden Plate - 1200 Metres
1st – BELLE RINGS 2nd - OUR RECIPE 3rd – WATTO’S JET 4th – CORNISH TALES
MICHELLE’S LUCK - Prior to the race connections advised stewards that the mare will be ridden back in the field. After beginning well the mare was restrained to take up a position worse than midfield.
WATTO’S JET – Crowded for room at the start.
CORNISH TALES – Began awkwardly. In the early and middle stages raced keenly 3 wide without cover.
PERDANERITE – At the start shifted in and made contact with another runner.
OUR RECIPE – Jockey S. McGovern was fined $300 under A.R. 145 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared weight.
Race 3: Townsville Racing – Thursday 4 February Class 6 Plate - 1300 metres
1st – PERFECT KNOWLEDGE 2nd – SHE BEE STINGIN’ 3rd – OKAY SWIFT 4th – RIVARIVA
SHE BEE STINGIN’ – Slow to begin.
PERFECT KNOWLEDGE – Crowded for room shortly after the start.
FOUR JAYS – Rounding the first turn, near the 900 metres, when the pace slowed over-raced. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.
OKAY SWIFT – Over-raced when the pace slowed rounding the first turn, near the 900 metres.
RIVARIVA - Raced in restricted room for some distance in the early part of the home straight.
Rounding the home turn KING COBIA (Jockey A. Coome) shifted in and tightened THE OWL (Jockey W. D’Avila), which had to be steadied. Jockey A. Coome was reprimanded.
THE OWL – When questioned regarding his riding of the gelding, Jockey W. D’Avila explained that he had been instructed to take up a forward position and to lead, if circumstances permitted. He said that after beginning only fairly he rode his mount along in the early stages and was able to take up a favourable position behind the leader, however when the pace slowed rounding the turn near the 900 metres he elected to improve 3 wide around the leaders and assume the lead where the gelding travelled comfortably.
Race 4: Mac’s Amusement & Prestige Costume Hire Class 1 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – BEYOND 2nd – PROSPERUM 3rd – CRAIGLEA DIXIE 4th – DAMKY
PROSPERUM – As the start was effected the saddle shifted backwards significantly resulting in the gelding attempting to buck for some distance in the early stages, losing considerable ground and placing him at a significant disadvantage for the remainder of the event. The gelding then raced wide throughout. Stewards inspected the gear of Jockey D. Hayse and found it to be in good working condition.
GUNDY MAGIC – Slow to begin. Shortly after straightening had to be steadied when disappointed for a narrow run to the inside of another runner.
CONCERT IMAGE – Bumped another runner on jumping.
CORONATION JOURNEY – Bumped at the start.
CRAIGLEA DIXIE – Passing the 1200 metres had to be shifted out abruptly to avoid PROSPERUM, which was attempting to buck.
LEMON CRUIZER – On returning to scale Jockey D. Simmons reported that his saddle shifted forward and placed him at a disadvantage.
Race 5: Cheryl’s Boutique QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – CRAIGLEA DEKEN 2nd – TIERES TOUCH 3rd – CRAIGLEA ZIP 4th – CRAIGLEA PISTOL
CRAIGLEA PISTOL – Shifted out at the start and made contact with the dividing partition. In the home straight was inclined to lay in under pressure.
CRAIGLEA ZIP – For a short distance passing the 200 metres raced in restricted room.
DIVINE SAGA – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
Race 6: Northern Rural Group Class 3 Plate – 1000 metres
1st – GREEDU 2nd – ROYAL PHYSICIAN 3rd – ALL ROSIE 4th – MODEL TO EXCEED
BETTER CALL SAUL – Late scratching, at 10.20 a.m., by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice. Trainer J. Barr was told that he must furnish a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.
POUSSIN – Bucked shortly after the start and was restrained out of the race. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr W. Winters was told that prior to racing again the mare will have to perform satisfactorily in a trial.
ROYAL PHYSICIAN – Hampered at the start.
SPLASH OUT – Raced wide without cover throughout.
Race 7: Tribute to Alan Cooper BenchMark 55 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – CLANDISE 2nd – PURRFECT TYCOON 3rd – GRAVETTIAN 4th - FIVE STARS
GALLIVANTING – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to take its place in the field. On returning to scale Jockey F. Edwards reported that his mount never travelled comfortably at any stage and tailed the field throughout. Trainer Mr R. Tapiolas was told that a warning will be placed on the mare and if it does not improve at its next race start it will be placed in barrier trials to prove its competitiveness.
PURRFECT TYCOON – Began awkwardly with its head up and lost ground. Passing the 300 metres Jockey A. Spinks accidentally dropped his whip.
CLANDISE – Rounding the turn near the 900 metres laid in and became awkward on the heels of another runner.
PUBLIC AFFAIR – Jockey D. Simmons reported that passing the 600 metres his mount blundered and failed to respond to his riding thereafter.
RISING KING – Apprentice C. Jokic was reprimanded under A.R. 137A for using the whip on the gelding 7 times before the 100 metres, 2 more than is permitted under the Rule.
