Tightened for room and checked near the 450m when ROCK SPARK, after being taken in initially by GOTTA GET CRACKING, commenced to race ungenerously, hung in and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. As stewards were satisfied that the racing manners of ROCK SPARK was a major contributing factor to the incident, the matter was taken no further.

TRUST NO ONE – Raced ungenerously in the early stages.
SYDNEYSIDER – Tightened for room and checked near the 450m.

DR DEEJAY – Apprentice S. Fawke was fined $200 for using his whip more than 5 occasions and in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
Race 2: Tyrrell’s Wines Class 1 H'cap – 1300m
On return to scale a protest was lodged by connections of the 2nd placegetter LATCHY’S GIRL, against MUTUAL BENEFIT being declared the winner alleging interference approaching the 400m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards’ patrol video, stewards found that approaching the 400m MUTUAL BENEFIT shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so brushed LATCHY’S GIRL thereby forcing that runner wider on the track. However stewards were not satisfied that any interference suffered to LATCHY’S GIRL had a material effect on the finishing positions of the runners at the conclusion of the event and they therefore dismissed the protest and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.

BRIGLIADORO – Prior to the event stewards questioned trainer G. Blades in relation to the acceptance of the horse today as following the mare’s most recent start at Warwick on 26 December 2015 he advised stewards on that day that it was his intention to spell the mare after what he believed was a below par performance. Mr Blades advised stewards in the days following event the mare had recovered well and therefore he had decided to continue with the current preparation of BRIGLIADORO.

A post race veterinary examination of the horse which weakened over the concluding stages was unable to be conducted as the horse had left the course inside the required timeframe. Stable representative Mr R. Pujolais was advised that a $100 fine would be imposed for the horse leaving the track.
Race 4: Nuturf Benchmark 70 H'cap – 1200m
GET THAT INDYA – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground.
STORM CRAZY – Began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping another runner at the start. Stewards questioned T. Brooker in relation to the tactics adopted on the horse whereby she led the event by a considerable distance along with another runner in a fast run race. Apprentice Brooker advised that she was issued firm instructions from trainer T. Sears to lead in the event and not to overly restrain the gelding as it races best when ridden in this fashion. She added that as a result of being pressured in the early stages of the event by another runner she was therefore forced to set a faster tempo than she had anticipated. Stewards, whilst noting the explanation did however advise apprentice Brooker that, in their opinion, it may have been more beneficial to attempt to restrain STORM CRAZY to a greater degree than she did in the early stages.
VORTUKA – Bumped at the start. Stewards questioned S. Lacy in relation to the tactics adopted on the horse whereby the mare raced outside the leader in a fast run race where it and the leader led the remainder of the field by a considerable distance. Apprentice Lacy stated she was instructed to ride in a forward position on the rails if possible, however not to overly restrain the horse as it has a noted breathing problem. Having had the opportunity to review the film with stewards, apprentice Lacy agreed that in hindsight it would have been more advantageous to restrain the mare to a trailing position behind STORM CRAZY sooner than she did which would have afforded her a better run throughout the event. Stewards were not however of the view that the ride fell below the required standard and therefore took the matter no further.
GAELSTORM – Weakened over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 5: Seven Local News Ratings Band 0-65 H'cap 1050m
